1. Automatically restore Type Character panel settings

   When entering text, sometimes we modify settings in the Character panel.
   For example, to type CO2 (carbon dioxide) correctly, we select the '2' and enable "Subscript" on it.
   What is very annoying is that this custom setting ("Subscript" in above example) remains enabled the next time we enter some completely different text elsewhere and we always have to go back and first fix the setting in the Character panel.

   Feature suggestion:
   Changes made to the "Character panel" should automatically reset to "default" once the text block editing is completed (or before starting editing some new text elsewhere).

2. Zoom to selection disable button please

   A simple disable button for this new feature, i've been using illustrator for over 20 years and this is one of my most used key commands and i'm being driven close to madness. Thanks

   This option is available in the latest shipping version 22.0.
   It is present in Preferences > Section & Anchor Display > Zoom to Selection

3. Few Additional Features

   Fill & Stroke Color Picker Dialogue with Single Click.
   Fill and Stroke should bring its Color Picker Dialogue with a Single Click on it, which one is active we would just click and bring its Dialogue.

   Layers Panel.
   Holding or pressing the Control key and clicking on a new layer icon in Photoshop to creates a new layer below all the layers if no layer is selected, if a layer is selected then you do the same action will create a new layer below the selected layer which really makes sense.
   The same thing would be very comfortable in Illustrator if that feature would be added in the Layers and Appearance Panel.

   Right-Click Menu on Objects.
   There should be Global Edit, Copy and Paste are the basic features, common and essential which are missing since the beginning.

   Start Global Edit.
   Start Global Editing feature can be adjusted in the Magic Wand tool's Menu/Dialogue and in the Control Bar, if Properties Panel would be converted into Tool's Properties Panel then it should show the Tool’s (Active’s) Properties there.

5. Raster Effects Resolution

   Currently the Raster Effects Resolution has only 4 options 300/150/72 & 36 ppi. At times, specially when working for CMYK prints, the designer needs a specific resolution which is currently not available. I would suggest that there should be Custom option to input the desired resolution.

6. Embed SBSAR 3D Material Into .AI File

   The ability to embed a 3D SBSAR material into an illustrator file so that other designers can open and use the same .ai file. Currently, the material is lost and greyed out.

   Especially if they are custom SBSAR materials made in Adobe Substance Sampler.

7. Resize Images Shortcut

   When resizing images or objects, there should be a way to constantly have things stay proportionate without having to hold down shift the entire time. I would suggest the caps lock key since it carries the same function when typing out letters.

8. Calculate surface area with Dimension tool

   With the last update, you brought the possibility of customizing the scale in the dimension tools, thank you for that. Would it be possible to obtain a new tool for calculating the surface area in m², by selecting any closed shape?

9. Align to object on ANOTHER artboard! yeah yeah!

   Aligning to an object on another arboard would be really great + needed, for AI users.

   In addition to functions like, align to key object and select/edit similar shapes,
   It would be so so great to be abled to align an object, to another object, on another artboard!

   In short:
   Aligning objects to the position of other objects on other artboards.
   Without having to move objects to the same artboard 1st, or copy their x/y values, just for alignment.

   Some thoughts/notes:

   Implementation,
   With artboard rules activated, of course. This seems to be a similar function to the ones that exist: Like the align to key object option and the align to artboard option. I can Imagine it would take relatively little coding to implement this. Though, what to gain from this feature would be very much worth it.

   Scenario, where this is needed,
   When working with multiple artboards, often I need to cut and past objects to align them to another artboard, and back. Just to align them to of an object over there. Many ways to rome of course. But all vary from being time consuming task that need to be repeated to often, to actually causing faults in documents.
   Other ways, for example:
   Cutting and pasting the object that needs to be aligned, to the artboard containing the object that needs alignment / vice versa.
   Cutting and pasting X and Y values.
   Using the select/edit similar object (if similar).

   In the end, all available options are time consuming actions that can even cause faults.
   Examples of faults: values ending up within positions in the artwork, that might be missed and actually end up in your client corrections feedback. Even if you are super precise, within large documents, a more reliable option would be welcome for this task. Other examples, cutting and pasting, taking extra actions/time to lock and unlock other layers, or having object ending up in the wrong layers, causing ..more actions.

   Efficiency, user experience, workflow/time,
   All of the mentioned examples of faults that can happen, can off course (if you know your basics well) be prevented. But I think anybody who does work wit AI often, would agree this task could work much more intuitive. There are so many details to it, that make this simple task, you execute so often, very unpractical, and to comprehensive.

   Select/edit similar shapes, is often not the option that works out:
   - What if (this is many times), the object needing to be aligned is not similar and/or not on the same artboard.
   - Or even when similar: often the key object that is positioned right, was moved already (the creation process is not entirely planned ahead). In that case new problems arise, that could all be resolved simply. A great solution would be to to select one of those, align it to an object on another artboard.
   Examples:
   Other objects on other artboards, that are similar, still need to be aligned to that one.
   - Select/edit similar objects does not work in combination with selecting an object that you want to align them to.
   - If they are all in scattered positions, editing the position of these similar objects by moving a key object, moves them all accordingly, but keeps them scattered, instead of aligned.
   - So.. they will ALL need to be either replaced, or.. aligned ONE BY ONE..

   I could go on.
   I am a bad writer and not a native English speaker,
   However, I hope this is a convincing case for both users and developers, that will be implemented.

10. Automated/AI-powered file names in Asset Export

    Asset Export needs more options to automate and/or use variables. Designers often need to export large groups of files (e.g. variations of a logo in multiple colours and sizes, with/without a claim or other element) which then have to be tediously and manually renamed and sorted to reflect things like size, color.
    It would be great if there were more option to automate the output by adding variables such as dimensions custom text fields, names of swatches used, etc This could even be an area where the use of AI might be useful to automatically detect the content and create a system of short, descriptive filenames

11. A Node View mode for the Appearance panel, and a complete revamp of what it can do

    I feel like I have a lot of things I want changed about the Appearance palette that cannot be done in the form of a one-dimensional list of effects.

    I'd like to suggest something inspired by the "node view" in programs like Blender or Toon Boom or Unreal. Give me a 2d canvas upon which I can arrange strokes, fills, and effects, and let me plug them into each other in complex ways. Let me control exactly when a brush is applied to a stroke by moving its effect around. Let me dynamically generate an opacity mask for an entire object, and another one for three of the seven fills and strokes I have on it. Let me generate complex pieces of plumbing that do crazy things based on me drawing one simple path.

    Keeping the Appearance palette around and adding a new Appearance Nodes palette would be fine. Or it could be a new mode in the existing palette. It's also perfectly fine if the existing Appearance palette can't edit Appearance Nodes and just displays a polite apology. There's a simplicity to the existing palette that might be worth retaining, I dunno, when it gets to the point of being in a beta, ask people how they'd feel about losing the old one, and be aggressive about hunting for ways it might break existing appearance stacks - ask us for our craziest piles of native and plugin effects and build a nice set of test cases!

    I am probably asking a lot here. This is feels like a big enough change to be one of the top features of an entire release. Possibly even more. It'll probably involve changing some assumptions that are made deep in the parts of Illustrator nobody understands any more. And it's entirely for the most hardcore users, who're using it in the most esoteric ways. Good luck convincing the people who control the budget that a significant part of Illustrator's development budget for a year or three should be devoted to something that's got zero noob appeal.

    But after about a decade of exploring its possibilities, I'm constantly butting up against the limitations of the Appearance palette. It's time for something to change. Maybe it's just time for me to figure out how to survive a couple months of zero productivity because I'm figuring out how to turn another, younger program into something I can whip out art even half as fast as I can do it in Illustrator. And probably get animation capabilities and some amount of 3d into the bargain. I dunno. I'm fifty years old and I've loved using this program as my main art tool for half my life. Change is complicated.

12. Allow to pick tool from Customize Toolbar for temp use

    Customizing the tool bar has been a great addition. But there are some occasions where I need a tool (ex: spiral or grid). This is rarely used, maybe once a month or less, but when I do need it, I don't want to have to add it to my tool bar. Can we just choose the ellipses for customize tool bar, and when we click on a tool, it is activated. I don't need to see it added to the toolstrip, I just need it for that moment.

    Think of the three dots as a user experience hierarchy versus a way to customize the tool strip. "More tools here" and then anything that is secondary or tertiary is available without customizing anything.

13. Ability to change resolution when setting pixels as a unit

    I use Illustrator for UX design, and thus I use pixels for the dimensions. However, the resolution of most modern screens, in mobile phones, and other devices, is not the default 72 ppi. Thus, when I switch between units, the pixel size does not equal what I get in millimeters. (For usability issues, e g mm based letter height is crucial.)

    I know Photoshop is more of a pixel oriented tool, but doing vector graphics and using Illustrator is an advantage in terribly many places. (There is a reason for Sketch being a popular replacement...) Adding a way to customize the units or customizing the pixel resolution would benefit me and my entire team of 15 people, very much.

14. Make scrollbars higher contrast or allow customizable colors for them

    The gray on gray scheme of the slider and handle in the scrollbars is extremely difficult to work with. Higher contrast is needed or provide the ability to customize the slider color. This is an accessibility issue for older or visually impaired users!

15. Pg Up & Pg Down

    Hi guys! I have a feature request. Usually the rule of thumb is if you can hotkey it or select it from a menu then you can build it into an action. There's one exception I've found.

    Illustrator will respond to using the Page Up and Page Down keys on your keyboard to navigate your artboards. BUT it ignores these commands if you're recording an action.

    We could make some really robust and powerful actions if we could program actions to navigate through the artboards. Please please please add this?

    PS it would also be amazing if variables could navigate artboards too. So you could direct it that with each data set it would know to move to the next artboard to deposit the next data set. But... even just having that artboard navigation mentioned above could be rigged to enable this.

16. Gradient Tools Lack Customizability

    For a $20/month program, it's really frustrating that I've tested it's limited capabilities multiple times.
    1. Radial gradient: Should have the option to be deformed to shape. For instance, if I wanted a butterfly shaped radial gradient, the radial gradient should be able to act more like a proportional subdivision. Otherwise, the closes thing there is to what I'm looking for is the Gradient mesh because..

    1. Gradient Mesh: The Gradient Mesh has a severe lack of customizability. Everytime I use that tool for any complex shape, I always get a jumbled mess of lines and subdivisions that are overlapping and completely chaotic. We should have the option to adjust the anchor points of the mesh, but that's impossible without warping the vector shape. The tool is a nightmare to work with and practically impossible to get the results I'm looking for. You should have the option to start with a simple perpendicular grid and freely adjust the curves and anchor points without altering the vector shape. If you're not going to allow for this simple capability then don't bother having the gradient mesh at all.

    2. Free form gradient: The other alternative to a gradient mesh would be free form gradient. While this tool is definitely a lot better and more customizable than the gradient mesh, it's not without it's frustrating parts For one, it only ever allows you to draw curves. You can't do straight lines. between 3 points on the same line and there doesn't appear to be a hot key to allow for that capability. And simply using dots without lines turns the dots into radial gradients instead of a linear gradient when the points are connected by lines and you don't get the same effect. The tool is also incredibly tedious to use. Anytime I accidentally click a hotkey like Ctrl I for eyedropper it kicks me out of the tool, or I'll accidentally click an extra gradient dot instead of clicking on one that was already placed.

    3. Linear Gradients: This tool is great, but just like with what I talked about in regards to a radial gradient tool, this tool has it's frustrating limits. For one, the gradient it produces is not at all constrained by the bounding box of the vector and it's impossible to accurately reflect the gradient of a shape with this tool. There should be an option to have the linear gradient warped to accurately reflect the shape. For instance, if I have a trapezoid with a base that is much larger than the top, I want the proportions of the gradient to be proportionate the length of the top side and the bottom side, that way it actually reflects how lighting on that object should be.

    4. Multiple Linear functions: Still in regards to the linear tool, I really wish there was the ability to have multiple linear gradients affecting the same vector shape. This would be useful in examples like buildings. Imagine you're looking down the road through a city. Buildings farther from your view are going to appear brighter or darker than the buildings closer to your vision. (That would be one gradient). But than the tops of the buildings are also, more than likely, going to appear brighter than the bottom of the buildings because it's closer to the sky. In cases like these, it is extremely practical to have linear gradients overlapping.
       Another thing in regards to linear tools is the ability to transfer the same gradient to other objects. For example, to keep with the building example, the sun is setting on the horizon of the city and you see the reflections of the sun's light on the windows. The windows closer to the sun will have a brighter reflection than the windows closer to your view. But because all the windows are parallel to each other and are effected by the sun's reflections the same way, you should be able to draw a linear gradient from Point A to Point B and transfer those exact enpoints and slider coordinates to all the windows. I've been able to use the eyedropper tool to copy the colors in the gradient, but most of the time the length and location of the gradient line tool resets and I would have to manually manipulate the gradient lines to match for every single window and that's just plain time consuming and tedious not to mention it would not be a perfect continuity when it comes to accurately reflecting the window reflections.

    When it comes to these additional features, I'm not asking you to completely get rid of the features that already exist as those are still useful applications, but all I'm asking is for all these tools to be customizable and as integral as possible. These numerous incapabilities is frustrating and stunts my creative process enough that I wish I could get a job at Adobe just to have these features added.

    1. Radial gradient: Should have the option to be deformed to shape. For instance, if I wanted a butterfly shaped radial gradient, the radial gradient should be able to act more like a proportional subdivision. Otherwise, the closes thing there is to what I'm looking for is the Gradient mesh because..

17. Type number of sides for polygon tool and star tool

    Currently to get a number of points on a star you have to type the [up key] or [down key] But often I know what number of points or sides I want on the polygon or star.

    I'd like the ability to type the number of sides/points.

    This could be achieved in a number of ways:
    - An option panel (could change it after the fact as long as it is selected as long as the points haven't been moved?)
    - hold and drag and type the number (say 3, 6, 9, etc)
    - double click on the polygon/star icon on the tools palette which brings up a dialog box Then you can type in things like number of stars and size similar to the Line segment tool. (Also extend this to the rectangle, etc tools?)

    I'm pretty sure implementation of this probably would be a bit tricky? The number trick for hold and drag for sides 1-9 probably wouldn't be as hard to implement, given that up and down keys are already cued to the number of sides.

    The rest of it has some architecture, but probably would take longer to implement.

    It's annoying to have to go "I need an octagon, but I just got 9 sides" and then go, "Oh, I need a pentagon...." and then spend a good few minutes trying to magically get the number of sides. And then going, "Oh ****, I'd like to get the octagon again and it would be easier to draw it out than find where my last octagon was..." and then sit there again hoping to get the perfect number of sides.

    I'm not saying "eliminate the up and down key" because sometimes people don't know how many sides they need, etc and want that randomness, but I want precision too and sometimes on a new document that's super annoying.

    BTW, Scripts don't particularly work on my computer. So please don't recommend scripts.

18. It would be great to have more control of the .jpg compression settings in "Export for Screens"

    It would be great is more granular control of the .jpg compression settings. Right now we can only export at 100, 80, 50 and 20. We find that 60% compression is often the sweet spot between size and quality. Having a user adjustable slider or more presets would be great. It is another reason why we are still using the legacy export.

19. Recolour artwork which can recolour a symbol instance

    Find myself using the recolour Artwork panel a lot these days - especially when iterating with logo colours. What would be brilliant is if we could click a symbol and recolour just that instance (without it affecting the master symbol) using the Recolour Artwork panel. Having to use the direct selection to select individual shapes tool is pretty tedious. I have found a workaround whereby you can unlink the symbol and then create another one and use the Replace Symbol feature - though this isn't great when you then need to adjust the shape as all instances aren't linked together.

    Loving the most recent update btw - being able to colour from a bitmap.

20. You should be able to delete a layer with the delete key.

    Like in any other Adobe program you should be able to just press the delete button instead of dragging the layer to the trash bin icon.
