The bounding box for lines and narrow objects doesn’t have center handles
Missing the center handles for all lines, unable to extend lines properly (without scaling them) unless I switch to direct selection tool, which is a pain.
So it’s obviously not fixed, and we all know it.
While the cursor gets changes into the horizontal/vertical two-headed arrow, the center handles for the bounding box indeed don’t appear, if the width/height of the art (here just an orthogonal line) is small enough.
Please continue to share you thought, screenshots, GIFs. It’s time to re-review this again.

I constantly used the end handles to adjust line lengths without changing position! Please fix this!

I've noticed that in CC 2019, they have made the left hand tool panel customisable (it may have been in previous versions, but I didn't use it). What I have found is that occasionally the tool panel goes crazy and re-arranges itself. Where the direct selection tool is normally (top right spot) another tool is in its place. I have noticed a correlation between this getting re-arranged and the handles disappearing.
If you reset the tool panel back to default layout (via the 3 little dots under the tool panel), this seems to fix the disappearing handles issue. -

Please fix this ASAP!! It's a HUGE hassle -- I can only imagine the pain it is for everyone trying to create graphics.

The handle seems to appear when you zoom in to about 1200% and beyond (for very thin elements - a rectangle at 1/32", for instance) but used to be visible from any zoom level - which helps if you want to alter detailed art from a birds-eye view or extend a small element a larger distance than the zoomed in screen allows.
But agreed, this change affects every file I make day to day at work and would be nice if it could be reverted to its original "always-visible" setting, no matter the size of the shape/line.

It is not limited to lines but happens to all objects which are too "thin" for Illustrator! That's a killer for Illustrators...

Hi Adobe!
Adobe Illustrator V23.0.1 running.on Mac OS 10.14
Centre handles on bounding boxes for straight (Horizontal / vertical) lines have disappeared.
It only seems to be on straight lines (Horizontal / vertical).
As an illustrator, losing this basic functionality is a huge loss. Having to select a different tool (Scale 'E'), then unselect to select a different object, then back to 'E', all just to extend a few lines, is a baffling workflow and slowing me down a huge amount.
Why have straight lines been treated any differently to shape objects or even diagonal lines? If anything it's more appropriate on straight lines to easily extend them.
I've had to take a photo with my phone because screen grab causes the bounding boxes to disappear...!?
Thanks
J

How can anyone decide to suddenly leave the center handles to edit lines?
