Saving a PDF compatible causes slow saving

I have a top end workstation so the spec isn't an issue. When saving an AI file, checking PDF compatible slows the save and subsequent saves significantly. Un-checking it results in normal performance. This was not an issue prior to the latest release.

Can you help the Illustrator team to isolate this issue further so that we can nail this down?
If yes, then please let me know the following:
1) Is this Issue still happening on your machine in the Latest version (23.0.4 on MAC & 23.0.3 on WIN) ?
2) If yes,kindly provide Test file(Via File→Package) & some steps with which you are facing issue and share with us at ShareWithAI@adobe.com in a Zip file.

In my case, changing the system default printer from a network printer to a local printer (like 'Adobe PDF' for example) solved this issue.

Exactly the same issue here.

Saving an AI file takes 4-5 times longer than (around) a year ago. If you disable "PDF compatibility" than the time to save a file is back to normal. More people have this problem, which can be found in the forum on https://forums.adobe.com/message/10279391
