Artboards with the same number / missing number
In the artboards menu, two have the same number, and so one cannot access or export one of those two artboards (see the attached photo, with two artboards labeled "9")
The team again asks for help with this issue, since there are not specific steps they can try to reproduce it — the nature of the bug is random.
If you are a Windows user, the next time you spot a missing or a duplicated number in Artboards panel, please follow these instructions below.
1. Open Task Manager
2. In Details tab, locate 'Illustrator.exe'
3. Right click it and choose 'Create dump file'
4. Wait until the dumping process is complete and click 'Open file location' button
5. Find 'Illustrator.dmp' (sorting files by date helps) and compress it with any archiving utility
6. Upload the archive to a file hosting service of your choice and sent the link for download to sharewithai@adobe.com. Please use the subject 'Artboards numbering bug dump'
This will help provide necessary clues to locate the source of the problem. If you are a Mac user — please ignore this message.

Same, artboard numbers are 1 2 4 5 5 7 7 8 10 10 and after 10 the numbering returns to normal. Creating a new file doesn't help, same issue occurs.

Just noticed that Illustrator CC artboard serial number 52 is replaced with 53. It's confused me to do some amendments on 53, instead I did on 52. Adobe, please correct it.

Illustrator has a bug in artboards. When I create the 18th artboard, the program jumps and creates an artboard with the number 19. And when I create the 19th artboard the program displays two 19 artboards.

When creating artboards, doesn't matter if they are within a new file or existing, Illustrator skips 3, has two 5s, skips 7, has two 8s. Still happens when deleting/adding in the same file, or creating a new file.

same issue! Artboards 29 29 and 31 31.

While this issue is fixable through restarting a clearing preferences, it caused a great deal of trouble for me and is really frustrating. I had boards 9 and 12 duplicating, even when creating a new layout from scratch. When trying to export screens for a presentation it deleted (or overwrote, no way to tell) the duplicates, leaving with a project missing two slides. Very glitchy, very bad.

I also am seeing a duplicate artboard numbering.
If exported as png, using the numbers to specify the only artboards I need It def over-writes my artboard 43 with the one further down the list.
--SOLVE--
It cleared after my restart of Abobe Illustrator 2020 (24.0.1).
-- ASK OF ADOBE--
Please fix, so I do not have to close everything and restart the program. Thanks!

in Artboards, the auto increment of artboards are not corrected
when I create new artboard the auto number in front of artboard's name runs incorrectly.
see the attached image #18, #21, #24 are duplicated -

Why the artboards are numbered like this when it was fine in older versions. I need to export them in correct order as they contain writing steps. Now I missed some steps of the writings, this is very essential and crucial. The problem occurs on the other file too, exact number skipped and missing as well. #13, #17 missing with #15, #18 being duplicated the same...

I've also had this issue and had to rebuild the file.

I'm missing 'artboard 7', but I was unable to export 'artboard 8' - so it seems to be an issue with numbering.

I also am seeing this error. It is not a visual error for me as there is no Artboard 39 when I export. There are two Artboard 40's and no 39. I tried creating a brand new file and it does the same thing.

This went away for a little while, but it's back today. It won't export the duplicate numbers.

I’ve had this problem as well, usually with the same numbers

Also note, restarting Illustrator seems to have resolved the issue.
