Lasso tool not selecting
Since updating Illustrator a month or so ago, the lasso tool rarely works. No vector points are selected and I'm having to use the direct select tool instead.
Does it happen all the time for you, or occasionally? in any file, or a specific one? If a certain one — can you share it?
What is your exact OS details and version used?
Can you record a short video demonstrating the issue?
Please comment back, the team lack details on this issues and can’t really start investigations this.

I have never had issues with this until just now and need to use the lasso tool a lot for the project I'm working on. This is obnoxious.

Same issue... Mac Big Sur with latest illustrator creative cloud... Been puzzling me for some time now, finally tripped over this thread.
For me, I have not t found a work around to get it to work again, by adjusting layer ordering... Apparently my layering is too complex or something?
If I create a new document and create some simple shapes it works fine but as soon as I open my complex illustration it stops working... I can assure you starting over is not an option, nor is restructuring my entire illustration... So frustrating.
This was never a problem before, so some new illustrator feature or update created this issue.
Also, all other selection tools work fine, this is a lasso only issue as far as I can tell.

I have 11 sublayers within one layer, half of them are not visible. The Lasso tool only selects one layer. After Googling the problem, I first tried moving the other locked layers above this one below it. Nothing. Then I put those layers back and removed the sublayers that were not visible.
I was then able to select all the visible layers using the Lasso. But of course, this is a workaround.
Something's not working correctly.

Having the same problem. This still isn't fixed?
Kalle is right though, if you move the layer above all other layers it does select, but this is not a good solution.
Also I've found it working when I isolate a group. Not sure if this works every time though. -

Only selects points when you have no hidden or locked layers, which negates the usefulness of the tool. The only option is to use the direct selection tool which is much, much slower for aligning points on adjacent paths. The lasso tool is too important for my team's workflow to do anything but abandon this version and stick to 24.3 until it is fixed.

Forgot to add: this occurs on Windows 10 20H2, Illustrator 25.2.

Same issue here, it is also somehow dependent on how the selection is drawn. If I start with the lasso tool on top of an object and end on the object it sometimes works, it mostly doesn't though.

I'm having the same issue. Locked layers in front prevent selection with the Lasso tool.

This seems to happen when there's a locked layer in front of the objects one is trying to select, although the behaviour is not consistent. See attached screen recording.
For the time being, I can make it work by moving the layer I want to edit to the front, but this is clunky…

Illustrator 24.0.2
My direct selection tool doesn't select single points anymore, it only highlights the whole shape and doesn't work
