I applied a pattern to a stroke by accident and received this error. I'm using v25.0.1 on a PC with 16 gb RAM and a dedicated graphics card.

This worked for me: Edit > Preferences > Performance > GPU Performance (deselect)
...although it shouldn't have to be this way. Thanks to Anonymous on 3/19/2019

illustrator 23.0.3 continually crashing opening some illustrator files, if they have a missing font. this is incredibly frustrating

I've had the same issue with Illustrator as well. I'm on version 23.0.1.
I have not solved the problem, but I've found a workaround to prevent this (at least it worked for me, YMMV) - I also have not read every comment, so this may have already been said.
Edit > Preferences > Performance > GPU Performance (deselect)
Hopefully this works for you as it did for me!

I have the same issue and the latest update

Possible fix: Under the CC menu, choose Manage > Uninstall, and choose to delete preferences, then reinstall. Previously, Illustrator would tear through memory in, like 5 minutes, even if it was idle. It's been open now for half an hour and there's no problem.

Same problem. Simply opening Illustrator CC 2019 v. 23.0.2 on my iMac (Sierra, now upgraded to Mojave) causes memory use to go through the roof -- 60+ GB compared with < 1 GB for everything else (InDesign topping the rest at about 800 MB). Curiously, I have Illustrator v. 23.0.2 on my MacBook Pro (High Sierra, never upgraded) and it functions fine. With so many people reporting the same problem, one would think the problem is not specific to any particular user; but maybe it's specific to users with certain setups (e.g., installed utilities).

I, too, am having major problems with Illustrator CC 23.0.2 I am unable to save my documents. I have tried everything. Like everyone else here, I need to get work done and I have wasted hours trying to fix this. My MacBook Pro is very new and fully up to date. Help!

I have wasted an entire afternoon as a direct result of updating from CC 2018 to CC 2019. Your new programs crash, are you aware? I have a brand new iMac and it's fully loaded, so no excuses. How could you possibly push this out to the public with such obvious errors? I'm not only an Adobe die hard, but a stock holder, and this is beyond disappointing. I guess my question is this: should I trash everything and re-upload CC 2018 or is there an actual fix to this "out of memory even though you have 16GB of RAM" problem? Thanks

I just updated to CC 23.0.2 and it still crashes after a couple minutes telling me all of my memory has been used up. What else do you have Ashutosh?
