プレビュー用のPDFの文字が化けました

Adobe Illustrator v29.7.1
他社で作成されたCentury Gothic Regular が使われているIllustratorドキュメント（作成バージョンは29.7）を開いて修正して保存した。
このデータはInDesignドキュメントにリンク配置されていた。
InDesignドキュメントの表示の、Century Gothicの数字が異なる数字になっていた。
1→3、0→2 のように。
修正した環境にはCentury Gothicがインストールされていない。Font Bookに表示されない。
が、Illustratorはフォントエラーを表示することなく、開いた。
PDFを書き出すと、正常に表示される。
プレビューのPDFのみ化けている。
その後、調べてみると、Illustrator内では「/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/FontServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Fonts/ApplicationSupport/CenturyGothic.ttc」が使用されていることがわかった。
また、Illustrator v28.7.9ではプレビューのPDFが正常に表示された。
さらに、「/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/FontServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Fonts/ApplicationSupport/CenturyGothic.ttc」を適当なFontsフォルダにインストールすると、Illustrator v29.7.1でもプレビューのPDFが正常に表示された。
コミュニティの記述にv29.2.1までダウンバージョンすると様々なバグが回避できるとあったので、ダウンバージョンしてみたが、やはり化ける。
v29.0までダウンバージョンしてみたが、全て化けた。
再現方法としては、
1. Century Gothicをライブラリ/Fonts フォルダに入れる
2. Illustratorでドキュメントを新規作成
3. 数字を入力
4. 書体をCentury Gothic Regularにする
5. 保存して閉じる
6. Century Gothicをライブラリ/Fonts フォルダから外す
7. 5.のドキュメントを開く
8. 修正して保存（または別名保存）
以上を、各バージョンのIllustratorで実行。
InDesignに貼り付けるまでもなく、Finderのプレビューで確認できる。

The attached PDF was created in Word using Century Gothic and then exported to PDF. A typical Mac user would receive a PDF like this from a client, open it in Illustrator, and use Century Gothic from there.

添付したPDFは、WordでCentury Gothicを使い、それをPDFに書き出したものです。一般のMac版ユーザーはこのようなPDFをクライアントから支給され、これをIllustratorで開き、Century Gothicを使うというケースになるでしょう。

Tested in 2026 Beta (30.4.0 #80). The results suggest that what was “fixed” may not be the actual bug.
Background: Century Gothic is categorized as a “Document-support font” on macOS (https://support.apple.com/en-us/120414). These fonts are not available system-wide, but can be accessed by apps that request them by name.
- v28 (2024): Century Gothic is recognized and works correctly.
- v29 (2025) and later: Century Gothic is recognized and usable, but causes garbled text in the compatibility PDF in .ai files.
- This beta: Century Gothic is no longer recognized at all — a “Missing Fonts” alert appears.The regression in this beta suggests that the fix may have been to block Illustrator from accessing Document-support fonts entirely, rather than correcting how those fonts are handled in the compatibility PDF section. If that is the case, the underlying issue has not been resolved — it has simply been hidden.

2026 Beta (30.4.0 #80) でテストしました。結果から、今回の「修正」は本来のバグを直したものではない可能性があります。
背景：Century Gothic は macOS の「書類に対応したフォント」に分類されるフォントです（https://support.apple.com/ja-jp/120414 参照）。このカテゴリーのフォントはシステム全体には公開されておらず、アプリがフォント名を指定してリクエストした場合のみ使用できます。
- v28 (2024)：Century Gothic を正常に認識・使用できる。
- v29 (2025) 以降：Century Gothic は認識・使用できるが、.ai ファイルの互換 PDF 領域で文字化けが発生する。
- 今回のベータ版：Century Gothic 自体が認識されなくなり、「環境にないフォント」のアラートが表示される。このベータでの挙動から推測すると、今回の「修正」は互換 PDF 領域での「書類に対応したフォント」の処理を正しく直したのではなく、Illustrator が「書類に対応したフォント」にアクセスできないようにしたものではないかと思われます。もしそうであれば、根本的な問題は解決されておらず、見えなくされただけということになります。

2024では発生せず、2025で発生するということは、「2025のバックグラウンド機能に新たなバグがある」と考えられるところです。
バックグラウンド機能のバグは、通常は不規則に発生するので、再現手順を確定できず、修正も困難というかなり厄介な問題を抱えています。
その中でも、再現手順を確定できたものは修正されました。

Since this doesn’t occur in 2024 but does occur in 2025, it suggests that ‘there’s a new bug in the 2025 background function.’
Background function bugs typically occur irregularly, making it impossible to establish reproduction steps and difficult to fix - this presents quite a troublesome problem.
Among these, the ones where reproduction steps could be established have been fixed.

確かに「バックグランドで○○」のチェックをOFFにしたら、化けなくはなりました。
ただ、2024だと化けないというナゾは残ります。 -

macOS Ventura 13.7.5
Illustrator 2025 (29.8.1)「環境設定 > ファイル管理」の「バックグラウンドで○○」をチェックONにしていると再現しました。チェックOFFにすると防げると思います。
aiファイルの互換PDFに異常が発生するのは、総じてバックグラウンド機能が原因であることが経験則として判明しています。バックグラウンド機能が搭載された2020 (24) 以降からずっと問題になっています。

This bug occurred when the background setting in 'Preferences > File Handling' was checked ON. I think it can be prevented by unchecking it (turning it OFF).The abnormalities occurring in compatible PDFs of AI files are generally caused by using the background function. This has been an ongoing problem ever since the background function was implemented in 2020 (version 24) and onwards.

AIの各バージョンのファイルと、それらのプレビューのスクリーンショットです。
AIは「123」と数字を打って書体をCentury Gothicに変更して保存したものです。
上記、再現方法のように作成したもののファイル名をバージョン番号に変更しました。
不足している情報があれば、ご連絡ください。
