Opening Old AI5.5 files in CS2019
I now find since moving to Catalina that my old version of Adobe Illustrator 5.5 has stopped working, this would be fine, but I cannot open old files from 2009 in Adobe Illustrator 23.1.1 - and as luck would have it, I get a call to reignite an old brand this AM! can anyone help please?

Freezing when saving as SVG
Recently (last 2-3 days) I am almost unable to save AI files as SVG. Illustrator either crashes completely, or freezes for several minutes. This has never been an issue for me. I'm on a Dell with Intel i7-7700 and Windows 10. I have no issues using Photoshop, FrameMaker, or InDesign.
I have also been getting an issue with opening AI files and getting an error saying "Can't open file because window is too small", and it randomly shrinks Illustrator to where you just see the file/edit tool bar. I always maximize the window when working. It does this when I…

PDF Security
If I password protect a pdf and then re-open it and make changes to it. I am unable to just hit save. I have to save as again and put in a password again otherwise the pdf is no longer password protected.

Why is illustrator running so slow on my laptop?
Illustrator runs really slow on my laptop running windows 10. It is provided by my employer and is one of the fastest you can currently buy. Im running 16mb RAM.
A simple logo takes a minute or more to open. BUT when I take my laptop offline it seems to work alot quicker.
No such issues with InDesign or Photoshop.
So Illustrator seems to want to know everything I do and slows my workflow down massively. When I have a complicated peice of work I am waiting five minutes or more for it to either open or save. I save…1 vote -
Export to a local folder url beyond iCloud fails to pick up the full url
When I go File > Export > Export for Screens in Illustrator 23.1.1 (and for quite a few versions now) the local URL in 'Export to:' does not seem to want to register beyond the point at which the iCloud cloud icon appears in my folders. So a folder needs to be fully local on my macbook - otherwise I have to manually look up and type in the subfolders that I want to export to.

Illustrator CC 2019 Will Not Save or Save As on Mac OS Mojave
I use a Macbook Pro mid 2015 with 16 GB RAM and Mac OSX Mojave 10.14.4. I just updated from CC 2018 to CC2019 at most a week ago. I wish I could go back, because at least in CC 2018 I could save.
When I tried saving a file I have already saved before, with this newest version of the program even, it gives me the error message of "file not found." I go and try to open the file, make sure I'm not just working on a different version, and that "file is already open."

Missing lines in Metafile import
Importing Windows metafiles gives wrong results, as shown in the example emf attached (puzzle.png shows correct result when Paint opens the file, Illustrator.png shows wrong result in Illustrator).
I am using version below on Windows 10, but it is not a new or specific issue I think:

Missing embedded graphic upon export
I am creating a poster in Illustrator. I had a linked .png file that I had converted to black and white to use as a raster texture effect over my vector artwork. I accidentally had set my color mode to RGB when I created the file, so I converted to cmyk. When I had exported to RGB previous to this, everything exported fine. Linked multipage .ai documents within Illustrator will not be stored properly anymore if linked more than once
When you place another .ai file in Illustrator 23.0.6 more than once and with the linked ai. file containing multiple artboards, it will no longer refer to the chosen specific artboards of that linked .ai file for the different placements but replace them all with just one artboard after saving and reopening your file.

export/save as sRGB png including icc profile
Why is it not possible to export/save an illustration as a png image with the sRGB profile included just the same way as it is possible for jpg images? The difference is obvious when viewing the png image in Firefox (in Safari and Chrome the colors appear correctly).
The easiest workaround for this problem that I could find is to produce a png image with illustrator and assign the sRGB profile afterwards in Apple Preview.
Is there another way to achieve this result in one step within Illustrator? Just checking the 'convert to sRGB' option does not seem to…1 vote -
colored paper no transparent PNG
If I simulate colored paper for my canvas background I cannot export transparent PNGs anymore. This worked before just fine and I always used this technique to be able to work with white surfaces on a "invisible" colored background. When I link the Ai into Photoshop it ignores the background as it certainly should.
The weirdest part about it is, that the PNG always has white background (custom background is off) in the export window despite my colored paper being white at all! As soon as I deactivate colored paper simulation, the PNG can be exported transparent again.

Embedding illustrator files creates bigger artwork than original
I use a lot old (or not that old) artwork into some new client jobs (eg: a logo or a background for a new project for consistency purposes) and sometimes embedding prior illustrator files in illustrator creates bigger artwork than original. (when I mean bigger is size i'm talking about. eg.: a square in original file was 10x10mm and when embedded gets 13x13mm)
It happens only when embedding and the only workaround is using flatten transparency.
I still don't know what exactly triggers this issue as it happens with seemingly random files.

Diagrams pasted from excel (office 365 version) to adobe illustrator on MAC cannot show correct font of numbers and characters
It seems that the original version of excel (such as office 2013 and office 2016) do not have this problem. However, diagrams pasted from excel to clipboard is correct. So there may be some problem in transfering diagrams from latest excel version.

Export for Screen Window not closing after export
Hello, I am currently running a windows 8 and Adobe Illustrator 23.0.6
I tried to export multiple files to Creative Cloud Storage through the export to screens menu.
I expected the export to screens menu to close automatically after exporting the images.
However this resulted in the export to screens menu remaining on the screen and preventing me from clicking off it. Currently the only way to get rid of this menu is to close down the whole program and restart it.

SVG properties settings reset with software update
We use custom settings in the SVG properties window when we save images as SVGs. When I install an illustrator update, it wipes out my custom settings and replaces them with the default settings.
