Artboards name disappear or change back after renaming (often when pasted)
After renaming an artboard in the panel, it will return to it's default name eg. , Artboard [x], instead of maintaining the new name.

When you rename the artboard, especially several at one time, the name will go back to the old one, even if you hit enter and save it. I usually notice this after I've exported artboards as PNGs and I get names with "copy" still in it or as the default artboard names.

Yes, this problem exist. After renaming artboard, saving, closing document and then opening it, artboard again named Artboard [x], and number after word "Artboard" increments by 1 after every saving-closin-opening procedure.

I've been having the same issue during (at least) the last couple of years. Now running Illustrator 24.2.3.
See the attached screenshot. The Illustrator UI displays two different names for the same artboard after I renamed it. The Artboard panel shows the new name I set, while the Properties panel displays the old name. Moreover, Illustrator exports the artboard using the old name, and also reverts completely to the old artboard name if I close and reopen the file.

The artboard name does not always stick when entering it in the following manner:
- in the artboards panel create a new artboard via the [+] icon
- double-click the title to be able to edit the name
- paste in the name
- hit enterThe name shows in the panel, but when clicking the artboard icon at the right of the name the artboard settings panel opens with the old name still showing. If not editing the name here also the name will revert back to the old name after opening and closing another file.
The video shows the above. Note the screenshot shows some artboards on the left with just a number while on the right they have a name as well.

When renaming an artboard that was just created, whether from scratch or as a copy of an existing one, it appears renamed in the "Artboards" panel but not on the actual artboard's label on the workplace (visible when the Artboard tool is selected).
When switching the "Artboards" panel off (for example by switching it to the "Layers" panel), and then opening it back, we can then see the old artboard's name and rename it again. Then only it will work.
This issue happens randomly and not necessarily on every artboard created.
I noticed a similar issue was reported and closed, so I'm opening a new one.

Hello, this problems is continuously happening to me. I have a lot of artboard (900+) and some times I need to rename a few consecutive. Every time but without a clear pattern, the first one edited come back to its previous name. Sometimes in a few seconds after the last edit, sometimes a few hours later. It happens both on Windows and MacOS.

I have been having this problem repeatedly. I cannot understand the rhyme or reason for this issue. Even saving the working file. I have tried to carefully track why this would be happening but I cannot and it is disastrous for my workflow.

When i give an Artboard a new name, and in the same action presses [Ctrl] [A] and then [Ctrl] [C] to use the same namestructure for other Artboards, the new name disappears and the old comes back.

The newest version of Illustrator (and previous version) both have a glitch that occurs when trying to re-name artboards in a previously saved document that has multiple artboards. After changing the names of each artboard and then going to "export for screens", the name of the first artboard will revert to it's previous name before exporting. All other artboards will retain their new name. In order to correct this, I must save the file, and then re-name the first artboard a second time and save again. After doing this, all artboards will export correctly.

I can confirm the same exact bug, not with all files but a lot of them no longer save the names when I reopen the file...

Yes, same problem, also... In the new version of Illustrator - CC 22.1 the ARTBOARD NAMES do not save at all. To reproduce open a new illustrator document, set up 10 artboards, NAME THEM, save the document, close it, re-open the document, the names are GONE. Also, when opening illustrator files that PREVIOUSLY had artboard names, all names are gone. They have been replaced with generic artboard names. To fix the issue switch back to a previous version of illustrator, ie: 20 or below, and the artboard names are back and they stay.
