"Apply to All" checkbox or "Replace All" button are missing AGAIN
Apply to All option for missing/replacing links is missing again in version 28.5. Now instead of being able to click that and replace all links I know have to do the relink step up to 30 times every print file.
Hello all,
The 'Apply to all' checkbox has been brought back in the Replace missing link dialogue.
'Apply to all' checkbox was removed when we introduced the 'Auto-relink' (search for missing links in this folder) functionality, as we though 'auto-relink' is going to take care of the 'replace all' workflow as well. But it didn't work as expected in few cases as pointed out by some of you.
Hence, with the latest release V29.2 (full roll out happens on Jan 9), we have decided to revert to the earlier experience whereby we are bringing back 'apply to all' checkbox and rolling back the 'auto-relink functionality.
Because of conflicts, both of these functionality cannot co-exist unless we make some significant changes to the relinking experience.
As we understand, 'replace all' was a important workflow for most of you, so we decided to quickly bring it back while working on the overall link panel revamp which is going to take sometime.
Thanks

Yes, but it has changed a couple of times, but yes, I just tested 27.0 (AI 2023) and that found missing links in the same folder.

Ton,
but there used to be something similar before this version, right? I've always been able to replace the missing links automatically in the past, as long as they were in the same folder. ^_^
-
Ton commented
Stéphanie, that is probably because it is unchecked by default.

Thanks so much Ton.
I have no idea how this box became unchecked! -

Stéphanie, that is a different problem, which version do you have? Relative links are a new feature in 28.5.

Just to make things clear, "Apply to All" or "Replace All" won't suffice.
I don't want to replace all links with the same file, I need Illustrator to find all the various linked files that I put in the Links folder.
I work on a Mac but everybody else in the company works on Windows (with a Sharepoint Cloud) and every time I reopen documents, I need to re-link all the backgrounds.

This feature needs to be fixed. Whoever made this intentional decision clearly doesn't understand this function in a practical work setting. We are not seeking to relink "missing" files. We are replacing with new files intentionally. Not restoring this function is choosing to sabotage the work of Illustrator users who have relied upon this function for seamless workflow.

Can you please tell us when this feature will be fixed? It truly is important to my daily work! Thank you

I have stated before, I work in the label printing trade, I have just done some step & repeat files with 220 stepped syringe labels for the pharmaceutical industry. Please update as soon as possible, I re downloaded 2023 version just to get over 20 jobs done.

Illustrator 28.5 on Mac Ventura 13.5.2
When opening files containting missing Links, I used to be able to change the path to my "Links" folder just once, and then Illustrator would re-link all the files found in that folder automatically.
For the last few weeks, I have had to re-link manually every single image, even when it's the exact same file that is found across several documents.
It's irritating. Is there something I can do?

Here is how it worked before the update. If Illustrator cannot find a file and you want to replace it by some other file, check Apply to All, locate the new file and click Replace.

Demos are cool. Here is one showing how Fast Relink script works.

Put back the Replace All button when updating links.

Ajabon's diagram is perfect, that is exactly the way we use this feature and how we need it to work

The batch replacement technique using “Apply to All” checkbox is characterized by deliberately causing missing links to display a missing link alert. This technique is almost like a hidden trick.

Sorry guys I didn't fully understand the past features.
I have prepared a diagram to make it easier to understand again.
So this is how it works.
This is a big deal.
(But I feel like it could be scripted out...) -

Morning Egor,
I tried Illustrator (Beta) 28.6 578
with the example calendar data I showed you yesterday.
It seems to be working well. It will take a little more time to scrutinize the deep directories, etc.It might be a good idea to subdivide the thread into smaller threads for more concrete solutions.

I tried simulating the functionality that users here are probably looking for using a script.

おそらくここのユーザーが求めているであろう機能をスクリプトでシミュレートしてみました。Additional note:
“Relink / replace all instances of the same image at once”
https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/34174264This is likely the functionality that is truly desired.
Instead of restoring the “Apply to All” checkbox, I believe there is a much higher possibility of implementing a more convenient and comprehensive new feature.

これが本当に望まれる機能でしょう。
「すべてを適用」チェックボックスを復活させるよりも、もっと便利で包括的な新機能を実装する可能性の方がはるかに高いと思います。 -
CSievers, the free Fast Relink script by Marat Shagiev I mention in a comment in the link below, allows to avoid repetitive operations TODAY. I am not saying it’s a final solution we should be happy with, but it works.
InDesign’s 'Relink all instances of an image' works for one image only, while the script allows to select any images. Was Apply to All able to do that? I think I never tried even.
@ajabon grinsmith in the previous thread showed an interesting example with relinking many different images to another folder with different files having same names... but I believe this IS possible with the current 'Search for missing links in this folder', nope? Should recheck.

Once again, I agree with Taryn. That is exactly the issue I have as well. I don't want to have to manually relink the same file multiple times.
