I agree. A contextual menu would improve the ability to lock/unlock and show/hide layers. Also, probably a different topic already brought up, a key combination for Paste Remembers Layers would be Fantastic!

@VincentVE, Good point. I'd be okay with the check box defaulting to "on". I generally have all my links in one place, but I can see a use for using it the way you describe.

@Jacqueline Christensen, I don't know if it's a feature in Premier Pro, but in Illustrator, it's not automatic (I wish it were, Adobe). You have to check the box that says "Search for Missing Links in This Folder." I've attached a screenshot. Note that it's grayed out because I don't have any missing links in that AI file. It works well, and is a big help.

Please, please, please, I hope this happens soon. As a workaround, when I have the same image placed many times in one AI file, I sort the links alphabetically and select all the images with the same name, and then update that one image everywhere, since the link dialog box defaults to the last place you linked from. It helps a little bit, but I would love it if links would re-link like they do in InDe.

This feature is quite handy. Often I get die lines that are situated sideways on an artboard. I rotate the view so I can create layouts in a right-reading orientation. The only thing is... that when you use the nudge keys, it nudges in the original orientation. So if I want to move something up a few ticks, I have to remember that it's either the left or right nudge key, or up for down and down for up if I've rotated the view 180°. So it makes me not use it as often as I could.

I'm down for this. Recently started using export as PDF, only to prevent my files from being written over. I can't tell you how many times I've made edits to a PDF and then had to save it back again as an illustrator file. This is a welcome addition, and to have sticky-ness would be wonderful.

The solution is pushed into Global Availability build 28.6.

PDF is now available as type in File > Export > Export As dialog.

However, File > Adobe PDF Presets menu, similar to one InDesign has, to allow even quicker export, is absent still.

If you want to have it, please upvote this new request here: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/48670088

I believe you can favorite as many fonts as you like, maybe that'll help you.

Search filter for both the missing fonts and the installed fonts would be really helpful. As well as being able to organize the missing fonts alphabetically...

The option could be a check box in the replace fonts dialog. This would be great. Right now, you have to leave the replace fonts dialog box, unlock the layers, and start all over again.

I would use this feature, as I'm always setting up things this way. For now I just eyeball it and then group, then align the group to the center of the artboard. It's not important that the spaces between each item an the edge of the artboard are the same, IN MY WORKFLOW, but it would be a nice to have for sure.

This is done in one of the latest releases.
Now the button in Control panel (and in Links panel menu) says ‘Edit in Photoshop’. You also can change it back to system defaults in Preferences > File Handling section.

InDesign has more options, that is true, so please comment back if you need a larger list — but please give a solid justification why :)

We are working towards giving preference to Photoshop for editing linked images, if Ps is installed. This may mean the label showing as ‘Edit on Photoshop’ when an linked image is selected. The change does not affect OS level file type associations.

The solution to that would be to activate a stroke if you want to apply a color to it, then to hold Shift when clicking a color — does not matter where this color is on a stroke or a fill. Illustrator then applies the picked color to the active fill/stroke, ignoring the source nature. There are two things to know — the cursor does not inform you about this mode (unlike the Alt-mode, should be addressed), and if you pick a color from a swatch — you’d get a screen representation of the color... harmless for RGB documents (if your color settings are in order), but crucial for CMYK documents (should be addressed too). Pleas comment back.

    Number 2 for me.

Agree with Darrian Bagley, this function would make it much easier to create branding color palettes.

Also, in my case, doing package design for grocery: I send to the production team a "master" file with one flavor laid out, and then off to the side I make boxes with the colors for the other flavors. This way they can hit the ground running without having to come back to me for color choices before they upload into the workflow software for routing.

I understand what Daan is saying, about alignment, anyway.

You can select objects on different artboards and align the objects to each other. This will not work if the artboards are not aligned.

You can align artboards using the artboard tool. Or align all artboards in the artboard palette.

And of course, you can write down the x and y position of the original object and move the object you want aligned to those coordinates. This is the long way.

I hadn't thought about edit similar. Will need to experiment with that.

You can also copy something on one artboard and paste it in place on another artboard.

Yes please, all of the above, nudging, scrubby zoom, etc.

When working with supplier-provided die lines (for packages), I often have to rotate the artboard so that the panel I'm laying out is positioned upright. It would be efficient if the align tools could rotate with the artboard.

The way it is now, when you rotate the artboard, the alignment tools stay in the original orientation, which makes me have to figure out which direction I'm nudging with the arrow tools on my keyboard, as well as which button will actually align left/right/top/bottom, visually.

You can see in the attached video with my artboard rotated, the arrow keys nudge based on the original orientation, as do the alignment tools. This is frustrating when I want to nudge down, but end up nudging right or left. (Apologies for the bad movie, I'm unfamiliar with the software.)
