artboard size fit
It would be great if Illustrator created a new artboard to fit copy and paste elements - as done when you copy to clipboard and paste in photoshop. It would be helpful when need ing to create multiple illustrator files ( say logo variations, or icons etc) instead of having to manually resize the artboard/page size

Opening old Freehand files in Illustrator?
Can you guys bring this "feature" to Illustrator?
There are a lot of old Freehand users still having TONS of Freehand files (illustrations, assets, icons, etc.) in their archives waiting for the day when Illustrator will open old Freehand files so we can reuse them once more!
I know this is a lot to ask, but can you guys give it a try?

Eraser tool doesn't work in pattern mode!
In pattern mode I can not use eraser tool, it is very useful if it works.

Updating to 2019 makes illustrator useless - downloads tons of data upon saving a file
My workflow requires opening and saving AI files with large linked pictures, stored on off-site server with low bandwidth (around 5-6 MB/s). The linked files can be big, several GB in size. When I try to save my AI, it freezes and starts downloading at full speed of the off-site storage and downloads 2-3GB of data before it saves the AI. None of previous versions had this issue/feature. It is a big deal for our company, because we work approximately 1 hour on each AI and now just saving it takes 5-10min. We need to open the AI (sometimes it…

Batching actions can't access files through Windows file shortcuts
If user has a folder with shortcuts to files in different folders and try to batch this folder, AI can't see files. It would be great if it could.

Better Smart Guides
Can you guys PLEASE make 'Smart Guides' better? For example, I work with product UI/Graphics and I'm always having to zoom in 1400% to clearly align and place objects on top of other objects, but the snapping is NOT GOOD AT ALL... Can you guys make things snap to each other like other programs are able to do so like CAD programs etc...

Please create hands-on tutorials inside application same as in AfterEffects
AfterEffects has hands-on tutorials inside the application where user can learn and practice side-by-side simultaneously. Very useful and effective to have. Please create the same resources for Illustrator.

Cannot save eps with opaque background
Cannot save eps with opaque background. Have transparency set to Opaque. Have save as EPS options set to Opque background. Will only save with transparent background.

Keyboard shortcut to duplicate a layer and its content or an object
Please consider creating a keyboard shortcut that will duplicate a selected layer and its content, as in PsCC, for example.
In PsCC one can duplicate a selected layer and its contents by using either of two keyboard shortcuts: 1) 'Ctrl+J' -or- 2) 'Alt+(any up/down/left/right arrow)'.
In either case, the duplicated layer+content will appear above the selected layer.

Type/Text Variables: file name, modification date, page number, artboard name/size, etc.
Please add Type/Text Variables/Insert Variables/Modification Date upon save. Same as InDesign.

Color labeling of library asset groups
I would like to see colored labeling of library asset groups just like having the ability to color label layers.

Allow to customize colors for handle controls, anchors, and paths edges (permanently and context-based / on the fly)
It would be helpful if you could make the color of pen tool handles distinguishable from the anchor color, even just a slight difference would be helpful.

view Anchor Points
View Anchor Points selection under the view tab. I'd like to see Anchor Points anytime I click on an object if I have this view selected, not just a barely there blue line that is hard to tell what is clicked as it currently is when you select Show Edges under the view tab.

Ability to switch how letters overlap
By default, when letters overlap, each following glyph is displayed above the previous one.
When using text effects or OpenType-SVG fonts, this can lead to disappointing results, like shadows on the wrong direction.
Would love to be able to toggle the order in which all glyphs of a specific text selection are rendered: above or below the previous one.
Could even use the extra space in the Character palette to include the feature button ;)

In the "Export for Web" menu, i feel a .ai option would be cool
I'd love to be able to export all at once:

jpg
psd
svg
and ai, without having to use seperate menus, this'd be awesome as it'd save me alot of time1 vote -

I would like to be able to apply a non-destructive "Convert to Grayscale" Effect to Objects, Groups or Layers.

colour changing options
Hi, I was wondering if there is anything I can set up in illustrator so I can... type a sentence and each letter in the sentence be one of 6 different colours so if it was to say... Mrs Barrington the letters would be
M- red
r - yellow
s - green
b - pink
a - purple
r - orange ...etcI have looked on google several times and can't see anything saying it already has this capability? At present, I use the eyedropper to change each individual letter!

small swatches in library
Need the option to view smaller thumbnail size swatches/icons in Libraries. There's too much scrolling to reach the end of the palette. Thanks.
