1. Please add Illustrator option to maintain text color

   Could you please add an option for us to keep the color we chose for the text in an illustrator file we're currently working on?

   Meaning: Say I am writing text in a file, but I want separate text boxes and I want to keep the same color, rather than Illustrator defaulting back to black or whatever color was set as default in the preferences.

   I'd like to be able to check a box to keep the color I am using for the text rather than having to go back to the color and subsequently the default sizes set in the Main preferences. It's time consuming to keep having to change both the color and size for each text area I create in a document.

2. Create new Library from document like Photoshop

   I have a file that has 124 individually named artboards (each containing 1 icon), and was looking for a faster way to add these icons (with their appropriate names) to a library, rather than having to drag each one from their artboard to the library panel, and then have to rename each one (again). Photoshop offers this capability

3. Ability to change measurement type under "Art Board Options"

   When an artboard is selected, and ART BOARD OPTIONS menu is active, you can only see measurement in whatever type is already selected DOCUMENT SETUP - i.e. if you get a file that someone built under millimeters, but you work in pixels, inches etc, you have to close the OPTIONS and go back to DOCUMENT SETUP and start over. I have to check art board sizes dozens of times a day and I have to back up many times. A drop down menu under ARTBOARD OPTIONS to change measurement type would be helpful.

4. Ask user before updating links (AI 26.0.1)

   When opening a file containing linked images that have been revised AI will automatically update images without any alert.

   This is pretty dangerous for anyone working with a team or refer/update old projects.

   Would love to have it ask me first or at least tell me which links were updated. Something to create awareness that things have changed since it was last opened.

5. Increase save dialog text width for long filenames (Mac OS)

   Discussed this with Default Folder developers that Mac OS system dialog box's text width cannot be modified.

   Instead, can Adobe improve the save dialog to allow a wider responsive text box for saving filenames.

   Currently, filenames only allow 30 characters before it is hidden by the system's box size.

   Example filename structure:
   - Project Name + Title + 2020-06-20 File State.ext

   Sample name:
   - Adobe Feature Request 2020-06-20 IN PROGRESS.ai
   - Adobe Feature Request 2020-06-20 COMPLETE.ai

6. Trim View - Isolate to one artboard only

   I like the option of "Trim View" to temporarily hide artwork that outside of my artboard. But when I have overlapping artboards and I try to use trim view on one of them Illustrator combines the area of the overlapping artboards and trims everything outside of that "merged" artboard. This defeats the purpose of using trim view for me. I would like trim view to isolate the artboard I'm working on and only that artboard. It would also be nice if the black lines showing the other artboard extents would also disappear when entering trim view for a single artboard. The cherry on top would be the ability to control the opacity of the trim view, so that I could still faintly see the artwork outside the artboard.

   FYI - my artboards are overlapping because I'm using them on a large map file. The map covers a large area and there are multiple printed map products coming from it, each with their own artboard extent (so I can quickly save out pdfs based on artboard extents). My current method of isolating one artboard is to just create a large rectangle with a hole cut out that is the same shape as the artboard I'm working on. Trim view seems like an easier method of accomplishing the same thing, except that it doesn't seem to isolate artboards if they are overlapping.

   To illustrate:
   Screenshot #1 shows a map file with many different artboards. I added red rectangles to show where all the artboards are.

   Screenshot #2 shows the same file with trim view on (and the red rectangles turned off).

7. Export X, Y, W, H and angle to a text file or Excel format?

   Please add a feature to allow AI to export X,Y,W,H and angle to a text or Excel file.
   I have a need to get the coordinates and sizes of buttons (in pixels) for my Touch screen. After you design the image for LCD. You will need to know XYWH and angle for touch purpose. It will be good to have AI to send those information out to a file (not image).

9. A mode for Free Transform tool to hug selected points tightly

   Affinity has Transform mode for selected points (see the GIF).
   Figma recently announced a similar thing — https://x.com/figma/status/2018778936482935124

   Illustrator meanwhile allows to use Scale, Rotate, and other dedicated transform tools for a partial selection. No bounding box is allowed when Direct Selection is active.
   We can pick Free Transform and use a familiar frame to transform the partial selection... but this frame hugs the entire object. This can be useful in some cases, but not that handy in others -—like when you need to work with a rather small part of a larger artwork.
   Perhaps there should be a way to may the frame hug the selection snuggly?

10. The ability to check an option for "convert lines to shapes" when I export different formats

    When exporting a file to SVG.... I wish there was a check box where I can specify it converts all lines to shapes on export to SVG... This way I do not have to do the conversion manually... and then revert back when I save ai version...

    Often I get messages that distract me and then I forget to revert back and accidentally save the ai version with lines as shapes... then my mast ai version gets messed up...

    Thanks a lot for reporting the feature request. When you say shape do you mean you want lines to get converted to SVG elements? Does this apply to the other shapes like, ellipse, circle or rectangles as well?

11. Save as PDF with multiple artboards is slow

    Just had an long trail/error chat with you. We found the problem and thats why i post it here:

    When having a illustator file with 1 image and 4 artboards. (segments of the image). We print & mount the 4 artboards it to make a complete wall vinyl graphics.

    When i Save as PDF the export will take lets say 4 minutes. (it very depends on what image is used) but when i merge all artboards to 1 artboard it saves in 1 minute. So it means that per artboard the export time is multipled by number of artboards.

    Sometimes we have a file with 15 arboards and that will take more then 15 minutes to save. What is very long, illustrator is frozen at that moment.

    The resources of my PC are barely used (CPU & GPU at 10%)
    so there is allot of time that can be saved.

    So basicly i think you need to use more PC resources

    or

    optimize the multiple artboards save as process
    Now it seems to take every step with every artboard over and over again. What is not very smart/quick

12. 'Reveal in finder' right-click images

    Can basic image functions please get added to right-click menus. Both when right-clicking images, and when right-clicking images in the Links panel...

    • Re-link image
    • Update link
    • Link File Info...
    • Embed/Unembed image
    • Reveal in Finder
    • Reveal in Bridge
    • Edit in Photoshop

    I also made a single “Full Image & Link Overhaul” request that pulled all the smaller image issues together, but it seems to have been deleted. Can an admin explain why?

13. Color swatch import bug

    To illustrate the bug - I have a file named logo and a file named base. Both have swatches named PRIMARY and SECONDARY (see attached). As I place the logo into the base file - even as a preview - the PLACED file adopts the swatch colors of the base file. I literally need to do the opposite. I need the base file to adopt the swatches of the placed file. Needs to have an option to REPLACE swatches.

14. Need a notice when opening an AI file if a linked item has changed since last open...

    It would be nice if Illustrator would notify me on open if a linked/placed item has changed since the AI file was last saved.

15. Support video placement for UX design

    Being able to import videos and make a design on top of a looping video would be super helpful for all of us product designers that need to see how the movement of the video impact on a design. This can help in websites and apps, and for presentation purposes it would be nice to be able to export the video.
    Right now to test a background video on a design you have to export the design and work on a new file inside a video editor.

16. Better control over position of symbol in mapped classic 3d art

    When placing symbols for image maps in the classic 3D palette, I'd like to have more control over the position of the symbol to be mapped.

    Example: I'm using this function for mockups of labels on bottles. There are a number of bottles, each a different flavor, let's say 4. (The bottles are placed images.) I create a cylinder sized to the bottle image's label area, and map a label symbol to the cylinder for each flavor. The labels need to be in the same place on each cylinder, both size and position. And those 4 bottles with labels are multiplied by 2 or 3, depending on how many concepts there are. So, lots of noodling with the mapped symbols sizes and positions.

    This could take the form of, at the very least, a larger window for placement so you can actually see what you're doing, or fields for x/y and w/h values similar to how they are displayed for transform (but inside the mapping module).

    Another thought about expected behavior: if I copy/paste a mapped cylinder, and then go into the copy and change the mapped symbol to different symbol of another label of the same dimensions, the new symbol would be in the exact same size and position.

    I know you are working on adding mapped graphics to the "new" 3D effect, so maybe this will be added functionality? I know there are others who would appreciate it. When can we expect to try out this functionality in the "new" 3D effect?

    (FYI, I cannot share my company files in public, they're proprietary. But if someone wants to contact me I am happy to send screen shots or share my screen.)

    Adding Pages/Sheets like in Excel for better organization of large jobs. I work at a sign company and frequently come across large jobs that I would like to keep organized.

    For example let's use a job I am on right now. It is a job for hospital signage. Over 500 signs in total and let's say 15 departments. Some departments have upto 20 signs. While artboards work well in this instance it would be nice if I could have the option to organize the departments with "sheets" instead of individual files. My reasoning behind this is when I have to make global changes, (let's use color for example) it would be easier to have the option to select color on all sheets and change it to a new color.

18. Create new document using current document settings

    I would like to be able to create a new document using the current settings in an open document; artboard measurements, bleed, color swatches, etc.

    For example, when I am creating logos I often iterate on multiple artboards until the client is happy with the final output. I would like to then create a new document so that I can copy/paste the final, approved, logo into a new doc so that I have a clean file I can share or link in InDesign documents.

    This could work as either an option in the new document window, or right clicking an artboard and having the option to "create new document from artboard"

19. Restore a way to copy the value from another filed with a click on the input’s caption in dialogs

    Please bring back the one-click way to duplicate a value from one input field into another for dialogs.

    This was available from version 8 through CS5.
    Make it a toggle in Preferences.

    For example, if i wanted to make a square 100mm x 100mm I would select the rectangle tool (M) and then click once in the work area... the dialogue box would come up... I would then only have to enter 100mm into the Width,
    then click on the Height descriptor (not the white entry portion) and my dimension would be automatically duplicated in the entry portion of the height dimension.

20. Recovery Improvement

    The cancel button should not instantly close the file. The reason why is I'm so used to pressing cancel to get out of an option that I don't want without it closing the file. Because of this, I have been conditioned to think that if I press cancel then I will still be able to work on the file. This goes for all Recovery options on all the programs. It would also be nice to have access to said recovery file longer rather than it being completely lost after pressing cancel.
