  1. Can Dimension tool measure angles for open intersecting paths?

I'm finding it frustrating that it appears that the Dimension tool will not give me angles from open shapes, i.e. 2 intersecting lines.
Am I doing something wrong for is this something anyone else is experiencing?

  2. Wacom 6D brushes / better performance and extended settings for calligraphy brushes

It would be nice if there were more options for textures in Ai. The basic brush set “Wacom 6d-Brushes” was an interesting approach. Unfortunately, the brushes are not useful for round shapes. The rendering only divides the projection into straight lines. Basically, I think they are ordinary calligraphy brushes with some custom settings.
I wish that the settings for brushes in general were a bit more advanced and usable.
Opacity and speed are important parameters for intuitive drawing and would make contours so much more vivid...

  3. Brush smoothing (fidelity) per brush preset

Currently brush smoothing is set only by double clicking the brush tool icon and is universal.
Logically it should be set at the brush options dialogue, individual for each brush preset along with angle, size, roundness etc.
Each brush reacts differently, and there should be an option to have brushes with various smoothing settings all available at once.
Saving brush presets would retain their smoothing setting as well.
Ideally, Illustrator should adopt some of Photoshop's brush engine settings.

  4. Turn off artboard names / labels when using Artboard Tool

When using the Artboard tool, the artboard label can interfere with the artboard content. Can there be an option to turn the artboard name off or move it to be above the artboard and not within the boundary?

To hide the permanent captions for artboards, go to Preferences > Selection & Anchor Display and disable the new 'Show Artboard name on canvas' option.

This would restore the previous behavior with labels being displayed only when Artboard Tool / mode is active, and shown above the artwork.

This feature was added because of this request

  5. Adobe Libraries — Point/Direct to the ACTUAL original file to edit

The more I use libraries, the more I like it! However, instead of creating a "virtual" library of duplicated files, maybe store/use the ACTUAL original file so as to reduce loads of duplicated files, confusion as to the "latest" version(s) created and a crazy file naming system.

Right now this is what it does:
    Actual Original File: SSRLogoRGB.ai
Clicking on "Edit Original" in any Adobe program: SSRLogoRGB_cf14017d-6564-4298-9f8f-d800bd2b4a91.ai

  7. Snap to guide at one zoom level is perfect at all zoom levels.

After setting up guides, I want to be able to snap an object to that guide and have it be perfectly aligned to that guide at all zoom levels. So if I align an object to that guide at 50% zoom, I want it to be perfectly snapped when I zoom in at 640000% zoom (or whatever). I’ve wasted so much time over the years and many versions of AI aligning at one zoom level and then zooming in as much as it will go to readjust to a perfect alignment because it didn’t work at the prior zoom level.…

  9. gcode

    Hello!

I would be absolutely DELIGHTED if you could introduce a way to export G-Code from Illustrator. I have a laser engraver (Cubiio) and the only way I can turn vectors into G-Code at the moment is by using Inkscape and an extension by J Tech Photonics. I hate Inkscape with a passion so I grind my teeth every time. This is what I have to resort to when working with vector files that I would like to convert: https://cubiio.muherz.com/gcode_instruction.html

There is a G-Code extension available for Illustrator, created by https://diegomonzon.com/illustrator-to-gcode/ , but I have been unable to…

  10. Disabling Keep Selected option for Pencil tool should not deselect path that is edited

A detail that I'm missing from the legacy Pencil tool.

It’s a missing detail in the option keep to path selected or deselected after being drawn.

When this option is unchecked the object is deselected.
If the path is selected again to be drawn upon to adjust the shape. It deselects it again.
Now that's all logical and according to what the option says its supposed to do.

    BUT

The legacy Pencil tool before its rewrite it worked almost like that but not quite the same, and it was great.

    So you had…

  11. Move artboards with the Selection Tool the same as Photoshop

In Photoshop, artboards can be moved simply by selecting the artboard name above the artboard. The same functionality would be useful in Illustrator, instead of having to select the Artboard Tool.

  12. Move selected anchors by coordinates

In InDesign when you select some specific anchor points on a path with the direct selection tool, and want to move them x- or y-wise, you can enter the value and hit return to make the selected points move accordingly. Or you can move them by dragging them.
Here is what it looks like:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/gk9qk6eqvdvn41p/indesign_points_moved.mov?dl=0

If ypu try to do the same in Illustrator, it works as long as you drag the anchor points by hand, but if yo try to do it by entering x- or y-values the whole object moves, not only the anchor points selected.
    Here is…

  13. Double tap keyboard shortcut key to open dialogue box.

This should speed up workflow for advanced users and help students learn tools & access dialogue windows faster.

For example: ‘W’ brings up the blend tool.
‘W+W’ brings up the blend options dialogue

‘R’ brings up the rotate tool.
‘R+R’ brings up the rotate dialogue.

I understand you can double click the blend toolbar icon to bring up the dialogue, or go to properties to adjust rotation. Why not double tap to stream line the entire process.

As a lecturer it would help students immensely. Learners usually look for (hover over) the icon and click, then navigate the menu to…

  15. Allow Shape Builder to close edited path, but keep the one below opened

    Hi there!
So, the thing is that - when I have 2 intersecting open filled paths, I really want to remove the outside path of one path using Shape Builder tool. But I want the second path to stay open. and the first path to become closed.

It may sound as a picky request. But I struggle with this issue everyday, like, 20+ times.

  16. Perspective anchored objects - Advanced perspective manipulation

I've been wanting something to solve the following use-case for a while:

When adjusting a 2D illustration drawn in perspective, to a new position within that perspective (think cereal box rotating on a surface), I find myself spending a lot of time adjusting anchors and curves. The new shape tools have been a huge help, but they can go further!

It would be AMAZING to anchor 2D drawings to a perspective plane and update them with a simple rotation within that plane (like you would in 3D)

How would this work? Illustrator would assume outer lines would move more slowly…

  17. PhysicsPak

Rather than proposing a new idea, I'm endorsing this tool that Adobe previewed in 2017 at the Adobe Max conference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIRz9cuDbSc

This physics engine, and possibly similar tools that could do things like detect whether one shape was on top of another (something you can effectively do using selections in Photoshop), would be extremely useful and time-saving for many illustrators. It allows illustrators to see possible ways that symbols can be tossed or fitted together without going through the tedious work of fitting them manually.

With more spacing, you could call it nesting. With less spacing, you might call it…

  18. A standalone preset migration tool to allow for quicker setting migration and recovery in the event of a re-installation.

Settings are regularly changed/updated and need to be rolled out to all users in a short amount of time in our environment. As such, a tool that will quickly copy/paste from one location to the app preset folders would be ideal. Swatches is a key example of this.

The build in tool that comes with Illustrator fails more often than not and thus is something we do not use. Ideally, we'd like to see something a user can double click/execute on their own to update these files.

  19. Artistic Corner Options

I had to make a customized corner style for a project that needed to match its existing vintage look and realized how limited the options were. I had to paste the shape into indesign and even then I still needed to modify them after I converted it back to Ai in order to match the desired look.
I know with nowadays minimalism we rarely make complicated borders and corners anymore but I still don't get it why we have millions of fancy brushes for stroke but non for corner....

I hope there'll be an update with better options for this…

  20. Star Tool: include center/origin lines

This would be a small addition, but one that I think would be valued. All regular stars (that is, not "fun" stars whose inner circle radius has been enlarged to make them "puffy") are made up either of:

    1. A repeated/rotated shape
    2. A single line bouncing off the outer diameter that eventually meets itself again

It would be a nice addition to this tool for those "origin lines" to be represented in the output so that we can more easily create art based on those lines instead of having to re-create the lines manually.
