New layer ordering
Would LOVE a "preference" option to choose whether your new layers/artboards appear above the existing layers/artboards or below them.

Visual indicator between a layer and a group
In the layers panel, a group and a layer look the same in appearance. Thus, when a named group un-grouped accidently, it loses its name. This mostly occurs due to lack of visual dissimilarity between and group and layer thumbnail. May be a small marker in the corner of the thumbnail (indicating whether its a layer or a group) should do the trick.

Please, for the love of god, add a key command or right click function to either collapse or expand all layers in the layer panel.
We work on enormous files with a complex layer arrangement. It gets frustrating when a layer containing a selected object expands itself whenever a different layer is interacted with. For the sake of organising your workspace, there really ought to be a button (in the options menu or what have you) that allows you to just collapse all layers. Obviously the opposite - expanding all layers - would be equally valuable. Muchos gracias.

More Layer Options for Actions
I work in print, and need to set up files daily for print which are separated into layers for grouping purposes. One of these purposes is for our automated cutting machines. In order for these to work, I need to keep the cutting and scoring paths on individual, specifically-named layers. When setting up many files at once I would like to automate the saving of print files, proof files, and cutting files.
To do this I really need Actions which support things like selecting Layers by Name (similar to selecting objects by attribute description, a feature I already use…

Renaming Layer Shortcut Keys!
Hello there Illustrator Devs!.
I just wanted to ask about a very simple feature but until today it hasn't been added to the Illustrator App
can you add a shortcut to rename a layer?. it is important for motion graphic artists to rename all the layers so it will be clear which layer for each object in after effects.
double-clicking is ok but it seems to be more efficient if I can bind some hotkeys to rename layers because using hotkeys or shortcuts just requires one hand only rather than using a mouse.
I will appreciate it if you consider…

The ability to open Fireworks PNGs as editable PNGs with layers retained in Illustrator
We have thousands of Fireworks PNGs that are now useless having updated to Mac Catalina OS and finding fireworks no longer works. We really need to be able to open them in Illustrator as editable pngs with the layers still retained. I'm aware this is possible in Photoshop, but that's not suitable for our vector-based graphics. Thank you.

Select objects above / below current layer / object
Under the select menu I would like to see added an option to select all layers that are above/below the current layer. In my use case this would be best in the context of the current artboard.
For example, this could be used to select everything about a semitransparent overlay layer in web visuals showing a popup element.

Points of a path being able exist in multiple different layers
If you have every tried to make Celtic knot designs, you know what I am talking about. If points of a path can exist in multiple layers this will make it a lot easier for parts of single paths to go below or above other paths, like a ribbon going through different ribbons, making knots or weaves, without the need to cut parts of paths and shift them to different layers. If you have not tride to make celtic knot designs (or something similar) just imagine if you need to edit the curves this 'chopped-up' path with multiple strokes…

Button to reveal a Layer on "Layer window"
Is there a possibility to create a right-clic option to "reveal on Layer window" from any object? Sometimes when I receive some .ai files, everything is un-organized and must travel over layers and layers... This option is in After Effects and is very helpful.

Change the layer an object is located on
If you have a large artboard with multiple objects and layers it is really time consuming to organize your layers when all you can do is drag and drop. I think it would be useful if you could right click on an object and "move to layer" like you can in muse.

Feature Request: Preference for Copy and Duplicate Layers without auto renaming and adding "copy" to them

I make large Illustrator files that have lots of layers, and often I find myself copying a layer that has a ton of sublayers. I spend way too much time renaming the copied layers removing the word "copy" or "copy 3" etc from the sublayer names.
I have found some workarounds, if this helps anyone. If I want to copy a layer called **, I will copy it, then rename it XXXz then paste and the new pasted layer is ** without the name copy, then I can go back and remove the…

Don't automatically lock new template layers
It would be useful when creating a new template layer it did not immediately become locked. Usually, I would want to put items on this layer like notes or reference marks, but unlocking the layer seems like an unnecessary step for a layer that has just been created.

notification when links won't update because of locked layers
It would be great if I could get a notification when links don't update because they're on a locked layer. I keep clicking on the update button in the links palette and I think something's wrong, when it's operator error.

Layer freezing
When doing very complicated artwork, sometimes Illustrator's live preview starts to become impossibly slow. Distorted dense fill patterns, lots of art brushes full of translucent shapes, complicated high-res bitmap effects… I can do some stunning things with these but I’m reluctant to use them, because I need to have fast response time in my drawing tool.
Currently, layers can be locked, or unlocked. I would like to have a third mode: 'frozen', where the layer is locked, and a bitmap of the entire layer is cached. This bitmap is then used for rendering the preview, until such time as the…

Option to define layer/ sublayer behavior
Every time I open an old file all the sub-layers are collapsed
Even though a lot of people wish for the option to auto collapse the sub-layers, I personally work a lot with them expanded.
Hence my wish to have the option to set the behavior of the layers with sub-layers either auto-opened or collapsed (or as saved like last edit)

Batch rename of artboards and layers
its so hard today to work with renaming many artboards. At the export (file > Export....) its the same problem, even if we decided to "Asset Export", we don't have the control of that. This featured is used so many time in Figma, por example, even we can perform a RegEx renaming.

A 3D presentation of layers and of artboards would deconstruct the fusion of all those into one 2D screen. Gaming software does iit.
A 3D presentation of various containers (artboards, layers, groups) would show the composition of the various containers into what is currently a 2D screen. Gaming software does it.
