Background Blur and Progressive Blur in Appearance
I'd like to see a blur option where objects behind an object appear blurred such as in the attachment. This is something that, I believe, can be achieved in CSS so it would be good to have the ability to use such an effect in Illustrator.

Keyboard shortcut to duplicate a layer and its content or an object
Please consider creating a keyboard shortcut that will duplicate a selected layer and its content, as in PsCC, for example.
In PsCC one can duplicate a selected layer and its contents by using either of two keyboard shortcuts: 1) 'Ctrl+J' -or- 2) 'Alt+(any up/down/left/right arrow)'.
In either case, the duplicated layer+content will appear above the selected layer.
Thank you.

Pathfinder modes / effects / command to work with open paths...
Can you make the Pathfinder (all of it) work with open paths? See attachment for what I am proposing.

Split View on Mac
Split View on MAC, allows for full screen view while running 2 apps, with ability to interact with both sides of the screen. Its available on all apps, except Abode! I check PS and AI - they both don't work in this view.

More toggle buttons in top row / panel full of indicators
You know, AI has a lot of options that can be turned on and off.
And some of them switched on and off quite often: Snap to Grid, to Point, to Glyph, to Pixel... Guides, Smart Guides, Edges (can be both locked and / or hidden), Artboard Edges, Corner Widgets, Bounding Box...Of course, all of them can be accessed via View menu, but you just don't see them there! Users need no only SWITCH them, but KNOW what current state is.
Are my guides are turned off or I've deleted them or moved occasionally?
I want to draw a complex thing — is my grid's snap is turned on or I need to do it before I start?
And so on.What about Use Preview Bounds? Hidden in Preferences.
What about, Transform Pattern Tiles?
Scale Strokes and Effects and Scale Strokes are duplicated in Transform, but that’s it.So we need indicator switches.
And ideally we should choose ourselves which buttons we want to put there. You've started understanding it, when added these to Properties panel.
But you take them away from those who don't use this panel. And yet you have a perfect place for these switches, in fact you already sort of using this place! It's right next to the rocket GPU icon.
Put grid-snaps-widgets-indicators there, so we can always know what our current useful limitations are.Sure, this would make it seem like it’s an app level thing... at the same time we have Control panel and it’s above documents’ tabs anyway.
Yes, you can make it a separate horizontal panel, but it will eat up the vertical space... you can put it in Control, but it’s full and we can’t make one sections of it to take priority over others.Still we need it!

Split paths by currently applied dash settings
Hi - I was directed here via adobe and illustrator support teams on twitter.
I'm submitting a suggestion for a function or feature for adobe illustrator in which the user may subdivide a dashed path into individual smaller paths, by the measurement and placement of said dash style. I have seen many different suggestions and workarounds for this over the past few years but none actually execute this specific action. (Setting to .0001 stroke, expanding, then deleting excess points isn't ideal!)
In my current role, and in our office, we design and create physical package design comps. we frequently use perforations in our designs, often with custom spacing, and use illustrator as a hand-off program for graphics and pre-cad conversion. Currently, the cad programs we use do not read or accept each other's different perforation styles (perhaps the programs see them just as that - styles, thus the paths aren't actually altered). Therefore this suggestion aims to use illustrator, the middleman program for our process, to subdivide a path via its dashes during the design process which in turn translates into a custom perforation in our final comp.
Attached file shows how the function might look/act
Thanks for your time!

Option to maintain aspect ratio when resizing objects by default, without holding Shift
Currently, if you want to resize an object (by clicking and dragging a corner) without distorting it, you need to hold down the Shift key.
I would like (at least the option) to have Illustrator maintain aspect ratio by default when resizing, and hold Shift to distort.
Even fancier would be an option to set the behavior of the top/bottom and side "handles"... distort vs. resize while maintaining aspect ratio.
Thanks!

Ability to edit a graphic style in Graphic Styles
If I want to edit an existing and saved graphic style, I have to apply it to an object, go to Appearance, make changes, open Graphic Styles palette again and Alt+Drag object with style over style thumbnail (or dig into the menu to redefine it). This is very long way.
If I just select a style and go to Appearance and make changes — the link between style and appearance will just vanish (the name of style vanishes), these changes will apply only to new art, and style itself won't be changed (unless I redefine it immediately).
Please, make a way to quickly edit styles without drag-n-drop routine. Why not double-clicking style thumb open Appearance in edit style mode or something? Why it only allows to change name? Why double-clicking swatch allows to change the color, but double-clicking style only allows to change name?If I want to edit an existing and saved graphic style, I have to apply it to an object, go to Appearance, make changes, open Graphic Styles palette again and Alt+Drag object with style over style thumbnail (or dig into the menu to redefine it). Allow to Export/Save a PDF (range) without ALL artboards and stuff on canvas included with Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities enabled
When Export for Screens is used to export PDFs, it saves ALL artboards for every .pdf, creating very large files. This means I have to export the PDF, then reopen the PDF in Illustrator and manually delete the other artboards and other artwork and resave it so that the PDF only contains the artboard that should be in that file.
This is clearly not the intention of the feature.
It would actually be quicker to just copy and paste it into a new file, as it can take a lot of time if you have a large file with multiple artboards.

Assign shortcuts to custom scripts and allow actions to run custom scripts
Hello!
It would be great to be able to assign a keyboard shortcut to a custom script. We use custom scripts in AI for a large variety of tasks at my job and we currently have to use a third party program on Mac (Quicksilver) in order to "assign" a shortcut to run them. This causes the scripts to run a bit slower and requires more development and support.
Additionally, it would be helpful to run custom scripts as a step within an action. This is currently possible to setup, but the action will "forget" the script the next time you start AI.
Thanks!

Toggle to Disable touch input
Option to disable touch input, AKA pen mode, so that we can't (accidentally) draw strokes/shapes/etc while interacting with the interface or zooming with multi touch. Just like Photoshop does.

Match arrow keys and aligning to view rotation
i just rotated the screen 90 degrees, but when i use the arrow keys, they move the object as if the screen was not rotated. would love to have arrow keys (toggle-able) match screen rotation.

Radial Repeat rotation angle value in Control and Properties panels
It would be nice to be able to directly enter the exact angle of rotation in the radial repeat options panel. Why is it missing? You can control the number of objects and the size of the circle, but not the angle.

Bring Radial, Mirror, Grid Repeats to Desktop Illustrator
We saw the radial pattern repeat function for the iPad version of Illustrator at MAX 2019, please bring this to the desktop version.
35 votesRadial, Mirror, Grid Repeat objects are available in the latest desktop versions, 25.1 and higher.
There are some improvements still to be made, and the team is aware of some of them.
Please search for the related requests here on UserVoice forums or add new ones if you can’t find a suitable one. -
Switching to gradient should use as starting gradient color the original solid color
Switching to solid color to gradient, by default gradient should use as starting color the original solid color.
Since imho mostly people uses solid as starting point, then converts to gradient.
35 votesThe latest Beta build 29.6.107 now uses the original solid color as a starting gradient color, instead of white, when switching to gradient.
You can still assign the default white-to-black gradient by clicking the gradient chip in the Gradient panel or a toolbar while holding Cmd/Ctrl.
Try it out and let share your feedback.

Please add Control keys and F13 to F24 keys support to add as hotkeys and actions
Please add Support for control key and F13 to F19 keys to add as keyboard shortcut keys or actions on Mac. It will really increase productivity and speed for power user instead of clicking or use already assigned function keys.
Hope you will add this feature in coming update.
Cheers :)

Add an option for trimming side bearings
Valerii Mamedov pointed out the problem with side bearings, when each new line of text is shifted from the edge:
https://i.imgur.com/mwHx6pG.pngThis forces us to manually kern first glyph, which takes time, changes upon new font and still lacks precision.
Besides other appliances Illustrator is used for typographic design, and if user could set trimming of side bearings as a paragraph option, this could greatly help with font visual alignments.
The problem is amply described here:

Recolor Artwork Undo
Can we have an option to Undo within the Recolor Artwork panel?
35 votesYes, the Recolor dialog does not have its own undo stack, and all changes are permanent. Since Recolor is often used as an experimentation tool, this behavior limits the freedom and forces users to avoid it and loose applied settings.
The team is now aware of the situation and hopefully some changes will be made.

Allow selecting a clipping mask by its fill
Currently, I need to select clipping masks by their edge, which is tricky. I prefer selecting objects by their fill.

The ability to increase the text size, change font and color of any menu, panel or dock item
Some of us are going blind. Give users more flexibility with the program interface please. This will help a lot of people with eye strain.
