1. Ignore Groups and Clipping Masks

   I lost about a Year of My Life double-clicking on objects within a group, inside of clipping masks. A less repetitive and MUCH faster way would be an option to "Ignore Groups and Clipping Masks" (i.e holding some key while clicking).

   The option would temporarily (select-wise) treat grouped and clipped objects as normal objects, allowing direct click on an object through a clipping mask and ignoring groups. An "If you can see it, you can click on it!" approach for instant color and other adjustments.

   This alone would speed up the workflow and, combined with wireframe view, it would be lightning fast.

   If you do consider this, also consider ignoring groups and clipping masks for "Select Similar Objects". I'm working on one object which is a part of a complex group with clipping masks etc, in 64 STATES!! Imagine having to double-click 384 TIMES just to make a single tweak.

2. Make it possible for a Graphic Style to mark some symbols as being part of it.

   So right now I have a workflow that involves making a lot of complex appearance stacks, saving them as a Graphic Style, then later bringing them into another file by hitting the 'library' button in the Graphic Styles palette and navigating to it via the Other Library file picker.

   If I import a style that uses a brush or a global color swatch or a pattern swatch or a width profile, those assets will get imported. But a style that uses a symbol won't import the symbol, and this is a really annoying little exception. It is, perhaps, not surprising that this exception exists since none of Illustrator's native effects use symbols.

   But lately I have been doing a lot of stuff with Astute Graphics' Halftone and Stipple effects. Both of these live effects have modes where they can spray symbols across a fill or a stroke based on the underlying art. They can even mix multiple symbols across the art. They're pretty powerful and a lot of fun.

   I use these effects in complex Appearance stacks, and save these stacks as Graphic Styles so I can access them quickly with one click. Everything works fine up to this point as long as I'm in the same document.

   But when I open a new document and want to bring those styles over, I hit the library button in the Styles palette and load in the file with the styles... and the styles come over without the symbols they rely on. I have to open the same file as a library in the Symbol palette and import all the symbols, then convince the Styles palette to regenerate all its thumbnails.

   (If I copy and paste a path with one of these styles from one file to another, it does bring across the symbols. But then I run into problems where some of the other effects I use get expanded into bitmaps when they travel through the copy buffer.)

   The nice folks at Astute tell me there's no way for their effect plugins to tell Illustrator that these symbols are associated with a Graphic Style, so that they would be automatically imported when I import a style. Please give them a way to do this. Thanks.

3. Uniform dashes at end of paths

   It would be great to have uniform dashes at the end of paths when
   "Aligns dashes to corners and path ends, adjusting lengths to fit" is on.

   Currently we seem to get half sized dashes with this option on

4. Disable Layer Search in Layers Window

   Illustrator v 27.7

   Mac Studio 2022

   Mac OS 13.5.1 (22G90)

   Please allow for disabling the layer search function. The Layers window search field randomly activates, especially when opening new files from a template and when opening exitisting files to make revisions. This is incredibly frustrating. For example; when I open a file and try to select the type tool by hitting the T key, I just end up typing a line of T's in the layer search bar. When the search function is active it appears as if there are layers missing in the file, making it difficult to find layers and objects. It is making too much extra time and work just clicking around to navigate my own files. Please remedy this with the option to remove/disable this feature from the Layers window. Thanks, Adobe

5. Oval Radial Repeat

   It would be very useful to be able to adjust the radial repeat to an oval radial repeat. Just like how you can change a radial gradient from a circular shape to an oval shape. Opens for lots of more possibilities and will be a huge time saver. Doing this manually is hard.

6. Allow to locally customize the assets from CC library within a document, similar to components in Figma

   I'm working for a company who makes workwear and we're having an issue with the creative cloud library.

   We've made al of these symbols in the creative cloud libraries, but we've seen that we can't manipulate these in 1 document.

   For example, we're making a coat.
   First we take the front out of the library, then the sleeves and a pocket.
   We see that it is impossible to change these objects in this new document.
   These drawings from the library are added in the document like pictures, that's why we can't colour them for example.
   We obviously don't want to change the symbol in the library, because that would change all the files where it is in.

   Maybe it's interesting to add an option like this in Illustrator, there would be much more possibilities in the future.

7. Contextual Eyedropper Tool

   Currently, the Eyedropper Tool is an underutilized and often counter-intuitive tool that needlessly increases the complexity of a workflow because of its limitations. This- combined with Illustrator's poor color tools- often adds unnecessary time and effort to what should and could be more simplified tasks.

   For example, a common situation is that I have a shape with a fill color that I like, and I want another shape that has a stroke to also use that color, except only for the stroke. Currently, if I use the eyedropper tool on the filled shape, it will completely remove the stroke and add a fill, although the desired result is neither action. The workaround, of course, is to create a new swatch of that color, then make sure the stroke is selected, and then apply the swatch color to that stroke (as the other color tools are essentially useless for matching colors, given no live preview).

   This, of course, can get incredibly tedious when dealing with lots of colors and lots of fills and strokes, and it is not always desirable (nor, I would argue, should it be necessary) to always create swatches for working with colors.

   This situation is of course not limited to shapes. Often I will have text that I want to have a stroke with particular cap conditions, but want the color from another stroke. However, the current process of using the eyedropper tool strips the formatting of the stroke (or whatever properties) and takes on the properties of the selected object, even though all that was wanted was the color.

   A more elegant solution would be to make the eyedropper tool contextual, so that specific properties of the sampled object could applied without completely changing the selected object’s properties to conform entirely to the sampled object.

   I would suggest the following that the eyedropper tool be modified to work contextually much like the Pen Tool works contextually.

   The default state of the Eyedropper Tool would work as it currently does. However, there would then be different options that could be cycled through in the Eyedropper Tool, analogous to how there is the Pen Tool, the Add Vertex Tool, Subtract, Convert, etc.

   In this usage, holding a modifier key or choosing a different function of the eyedropper tool would allow one to decide which aspects of the sampled object to apply to the selected object.

   For example, if I have a circle with a red stroke and a box with a blue fill, and I want the circle to have the stroke be the same color as the box’s blue fill, I could hold Alt/Opt (as an example) to switch to the Color Sample Tool which would then sample only the color of the sampled object and apply it to either:

   1. Whichever property is currently active (e.g., Fill or Stroke)
   2. If the object has ONLY a Fill or ONLY a Stroke, it would automatically default to applying it to whichever is already extant.

   This could be extended to sample the color of the pixel sampled, or the entirety of the fill or stroke (e.g., for gradients, styles, etc.)

   Another option (perhaps by holding Alt+Cmd/Ctrl) would be the Stroke Style Sample Tool, which would sample the style of sampled object’s Stroke. This could even be given some further options (perhaps accessed by up or down arrows) to select only weight, weight and Caps style, Weight, Caps Style and Color, etc., all delineated by changes in the icon state.

   I think that a contextual Eyedropper Tool would be a more elegant way of handling color and style sampling in Illustrator and eliminate the current workarounds necessary for an efficient workflow.

   The solution to that would be to activate a stroke if you want to apply a color to it, then to hold Shift when clicking a color — does not matter where this color is on a stroke or a fill. Illustrator then applies the picked color to the active fill/stroke, ignoring the source nature. There are two things to know — the cursor does not inform you about this mode (unlike the Alt-mode, should be addressed), and if you pick a color from a swatch — you’d get a screen representation of the color... harmless for RGB documents (if your color settings are in order), but crucial for CMYK documents (should be addressed too). 8. Perspective anchored objects - Advanced perspective manipulation

   I've been wanting something to solve the following use-case for a while:

   When adjusting a 2D illustration drawn in perspective, to a new position within that perspective (think cereal box rotating on a surface), I find myself spending a lot of time adjusting anchors and curves. The new shape tools have been a huge help, but they can go further!

   It would be AMAZING to anchor 2D drawings to a perspective plane and update them with a simple rotation within that plane (like you would in 3D)

   How would this work? Illustrator would assume outer lines would move more slowly than inner lines when rotating, based on chosen plane. The delta in speed between inner and outer lines could be adjusted to get the right amount of '3D' rotation effect for your object.

   Additionally, the tool could go further to provide a 'Center Pivot' location that could identify the axis of rotation, allowing points behind it (i.e. above, below in a 2D sense) to swap direction of movement for the correct visual effect.

9. Save a copy not accessible to call via SDK/Scripts.

   I'm not a developer, just an ardent fan of the work that the guys at AstuteGraphics do to improve the functionality of Illustrator.

   One of their products they introduced before Illustrator had recovery capabilities was a plugin called Autosaviour. It's a tool that can not only regularly save your files at a given interval but also create backup copies of them too.

   I recently asked the team if it was possible to adjust the way backups get created by utilising the 'Save a copy' function so that the original file could remain intact whilst in the background periodic backups could be created. I was disappointed to find that it is not possible for them to do this.

   Please make it possible for developers to call the save a copy function within their plugins and scripts.

10. Could you please allow to move the color control pop up menu, when adjusting the gradient point?

    Have the option to move the pop up menu to different location. Not right on top of the artwork you're trying to fix?

11. Non-Destructive Path Trim

    It would save me incredible amounts of time if I could simply--and non-destructively--trim a path.

    Example:
    I create a character's arm using a tapered stroke. I then duplicate that tapered stroke so that it can function as a shirt sleeve.
    <Here is where the issue comes in...>
    There's not a good way to trim that duplicated stroke to function as a sleeve. I can add points and delete the stroke, but the width won't match anymore. I can create a clipping mask, but it's a pain and makes adjusting the characters pose needlessly laborious.

    Being able to trim the path would make something like this MUCH less painful as there are fewer layers and points you need to mess with.

    Second example:
    I want the upper arm behind the character and the forearm in front. A trim paths would make this easy. You'd just duplicate the stroke, place one below the body and one above the body. Then you'd trim each to meet at the elbow.

    I hope that makes sense. If not, I can elaborate. Sometimes it's difficult for me to put words into a coherent sentence. :p

13. registerKeyEventsInterest fundamentally broken in modern Illustrator (silent failure)

    I am reporting a critical issue with the registerKeyEventsInterest API. In modern versions of Illustrator, this function is completely broken for global keystroke interception. Worse, it fails silently with no errors or feedback in the CEF console.

    According to the CEP documentation, we should be able to pass a JSON string to this API to catch key events and stop the host app from swallowing them. But right now, calling csInterface.registerKeyEventsInterest() with a standard JSON payload does absolutely nothing.

    If you set up a basic CEP panel, include CSInterface.js, and try to register interest in a global keystroke, the code runs without throwing an error. But when you actually press the keys, Illustrator just ignores the panel and triggers its native action anyway.

    Because the API fails silently, developers waste hours trying to debug a black box

    We need to know if this API has been quietly deprecated for Illustrator or if this is an acknowledged bug. If it is a bug, it needs to be patched. An official API should not just act like a black hole.

    This has been an ongoing issue across recent modern builds.

14. Add a setting for "Solid" in the leading field of the type panel

    Illustrator defaults to "Auto" in regards to leading - about 120% of the point size of the type. When using display faces, I often find I set type a lot tighter - usually around the same leading as the point size. It would be really helpful if there were a setting for that in the type panel, so that as I change the point size of the type (say from 24 pts to 72 pts) the leading would also change automatically from 24 pts to 72 pts - just as it would from one size to another when the leading is set to "Auto."

    This would save me the trouble of having to reset the leading every time I adjust a block of text. Think of this as a "sand in the swimsuit" issue - just one of those minor annoyances that have a simple solution.

    We can change the value Illustrator uses as 'auto' in Justification dialog, which you can access via the Paragraph panel’s menu. Change 'Auto Leading' to 100% to get what you want.

    If you want this setting to be applied to all new text objects, you should open Paragraph Styled panel, and edit the [Normal Paragraph Style].

    If you want this to be applied to every new document you make, you should learn about editing document profile files Illustrator uses as core templates. Just don’t forget to backup these.

15. Allow to control font for Swatch Info objects

    Well... if one wants to choose font size for text in Swatch Info objects while making one — tough luck. We can only set the color chip size.

    Since Preview is completely missing now (here’s the request about it: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/49681244), it’s hard to evaluate if text would be large enough to accompany them.
    Even if you change the font size after the Swatch Info is created — won’t do, each text line is a separate type objects, their leading won’t be adjusted, the card background rectangles won’t adapt!

    One can think this font is based on the [Normal Paragraph Style], and we can tweak it (beforehand!) to set the font size...
    But it’s only half-truth. While the font family and the font style indeed follow the style, the font size is always 10 points.

    So, team, if you look how people in different tutorial videos have to dance around this stupid limitation, to guess the card size to fit the font size relatively, and then scale the whole object... I hope you will fill shame at least.

    If you are afraid to overload new users with controls in the dialog — at least make an option to scale font size to fit color chip size... or make it a relative value even.

    TL;DR
    We all know math is the basis of all good design work. (Critical for branding) I can't count the number of times I've messed up manual diagonal spacing. It's a sticking point for me, especially when working on deadline.

    Being able to set up a template of guidelines (in the same way that "workspaces" functions) could be beneficial for different types of jobs.

    Other things that would be nice:
    -Golden Ratio guideline (also Branding essential)
    -Colour of guidelines matching layer colour (much more helpful than getting an 80% gray or yellow bounding boxes)
    -I'm sure there are plenty of other kinds of guidelines that are critical to different fields.

    I realize we can all throw our custom guidelines onto a locked layer, but that's not the point. The traditional guidelines are second nature in our workflow. Maintaining that workflow is essential to integrating new features and enhancing the experience for us right?

    A right-click context menu option
    Small export icons next to each artboard
    A dedicated export button within the panel"

    The key benefits to highlight would be:

    Reduced clicks/steps in the workflow

18. Rotate and scale any object same time

    This feature is available in CorelDraw
    I’m using CorelDraw for 11 to 12 years. When i click twice at any object in CorelDraw Rotation Handle activate. and I rotate and scale any kind of object at same time while pressing Shift key and in illustrator i tried to use this option but i find nothing. Can you help me in this problem?

19. Opacity control via incremental change

    need the option to be able to bind incremental opacity levels to just 2 buttons(+ &- values)Example: pressing J to increase by a value of 1 or keeping it pressed to increased by a value of 1 every 0.2sec; and vice-versa for another key.
    Without needing to be hovering the opacity panel.

20. Less Application Chrome

    Illustrator could have less application chrome.

    • Ability to remove scrollbars and status bar
    • Ability to disable "Application Bar" while "Application Frame" is selected (Controls take the place of the Application Bar)
    • Adjustable-height panels e.g., a Swatches panel that's sized according to the number of swatches, not some fixed height
    • Mac-native full-screen mode that hides the macOS menu bar (without having to toggle AI's view mode)
