On mac, force quit all apps (except ai), including finder. This worked for me.

I'm still battling with this. Have tried quitting all programmes mentioned. Have reset preferences across CS - still nothing. Please help?

I still have this problem. C'mon guys, it's been weeks.
"mac settings in Security & Privacy, then in Privacy -> Accessibility allowed Ai to control my computer" did not work for me.

Just spoke to Adobe - the quick hand tool is a preferences conflict. if you rename the adobe Indesign preferences folder and the cache folder, it works.

Hello, I was experiencing the same issue. The thing that fixed it for me was to uninstall Chrome completely. I'm still trying to figure out how to run them both with no issues, but as of this post I've had to stop using Chrome.

Hi this has stopped happening on my Mac now - can you close this issue so I don't get all of the notifications?

I got a better solution, which solves the actual "problem"
I think it isn't a direct software problem : I went in my mac settings in Security & Privacy, then in Privacy -> Accessibility allowed Ai to control my computer.
Ai just needs the control over your mac when there's a conflict with another Program concerning the Spcacebar. Then it won't happen again :)
Hope it helped you guys

I just bought annual subscription and install the photoshop and illustrator. I am using iMac 2018 5k 27inch with 64RAM. I regret this quick hand tool is not working. I don't know what to say...

i resolved this problem today.
In my case i have installed the program Exodus. (Crypto Wallet)
If it is open in the background, the cmd & space doesn't work in Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator.
If I close exodus, cmd & space works fine again.
Maybe you have another software installed, wich uses cmd&space for anything....
Try it out and I hope your day will be much better now! ;-) -

SOLVED for me too.
I quit Safari and it worked. It looks like Safari is using the same key-shortcut function. I find it unacceptable that Safari can do this when using any of the Adobe Suite programs. I wonder what it's using that we can't see. I hope Adobe will be able to have better control over these issues. -

Happend to me in April, 2019. I running a 2017 15" MacBook Pro (16gb Ram). Never had an issue until I tried using the Duet app with my iPad pro. When I did that, the handtool was the only thing that would work on Illustrator. I tried unplugging the ipad, didn't fix it. I quit Duet and force quite anything running in the background associated with Duet, still didn't fix it. I had to restart my computer to getit to work. I made the changes I needed, connected the ipad back up with duet and the problem came back.

Hey, I read the comment about Google Chrome or Google product being open. I saw a Google Drive open in my tabs, so I closed it and the spacebar quick hand tool immediately started working again! :)
Good luck everybody

This just happened to me today. I got malicious search engine on my computer. IT got rid of it, but now my space bar doesn't work in Illustrator.
From what I have read here seems to have something to do with internet or something running in the background. Hope this information help in resolving the issue.
Thank you~

SOLVED!!! At least for me. Hopefully for everyone.
Spacebar wasn't working so after reading some comments I proceeded to...
1. QUIT SAFARI --> Spacebar started working IMMEDIATELY!
2. Open Safari and still working.Am I THAT lucky?
Hope this helps. Good luck!
