1. Drop shadows appear lighter in v28.1

   Drop shadows appear lighter in version 28.1 compared to previous versions.

   Applying a drop shadow and opening the same file side-by-side in two versions makes this clear. Both shadows have the same settings, files have the same colour settings and profile, and are displayed on the same monitor.

   The example images show version 28.1 and 27.9, but the change is evident between 28.0 and 28.1.

2. A size of a selection with a certain object inside is calculated wrong

   Take a look at the GIF attached and the document.
   When the text object is selected, Illustrator fails to calculate the size and coordinates of the selection and uses the previous values.

   1. Open the file and display both Transform and Control panel (I don’t know if Properties panel does the same, because it’s just completely empty for me — another bug)
   2. Select the object with numbers — both panels display all zeroes (but Control has editable fields, while Transform have them disabled)
   3. Select any of two rectangles the document — panels display correct size (150×450 mm) and proper coordinates
   4. Select text object again — Ai displays the size and coordinates of the rectangle instead of the numbers’ values
   5. Select both the numbers and the rectangle — again, when the text is included in the selection, Ai display the previous values

   The object is a compound shape, made of a live text, with a Drop Shadow effect applied. If you hide or remove the effect — values get calculated fine.

   If you release the compound shape and reapply the drop shadow — the bug vanishes — values get calculated fine.

   The purpose of the compound shape (which one can create with the native Pathfinder > Make Compound Shape command, from the flyout menu) is to get a proper result with the 'bronze+shadow' graphic style you can check in Graphic Styles. If a text is not converted into a compound shape before applying it, Illustrator applies it only for the first character, because it treats any text as a 'group' of characters, instead of a single compound path / shape.

   Reproducible on Windows for 26.5.1 and 27.1.1

   Please tell more.

   Does it still happen for you in the latest build?

   Does it happen when you use Properties?

   Does it happen when you use the dedicated Appearance panel?

   Is it only Drop Shadow or any effect is a problem?

4. Appearance items loose focus when get an effect assigned

   When I pick a fill in Appearance panel and assign an effect to it, the item looses focus suddenly — take a look at the GIF attached.

   If my stack there is complex enough (and they often are), it’s hard to locate the fill/stroke I was working with.

6. NOKY error when resizing objects with Legacy Gaussian Blur

   OS version: macOS 11.3.1
   Illustrator version: 25.2.3
   Attempting to resize any object with a Legacy Gaussian Blur effect results in error message: "The Operation cannot be completed because of an unknown error. [NOKY]". Object can't be resized without removing or replacing effect.

7. Gaussian Blur Effect producing different results from 24.1.3 to 24.2 or 24.2.1

   The Gaussian Blur Effect "Effect→Blur→Gaussian Blur" is now behaving differently in 24.2 than it was in 21.x. Updating to 24.2.1 did not solve the issue.

   The issue: A designer applies a Gaussian Blur to a vector shape and sets the desired blur level to achieve the desired effect. When that file is opened by another user using 24.2 or 24.2.1, copying and pasting the object, or toggling the visibility of the Gaussian Blur effect (in the attributes panel) on the original object will change the visual appearance of the blur (the blur noticeably increases in strength).

   This alters the intended design by the designer. If the file is then saved by the 24.2 user and re-opened in 24.1.x or 24.0 (tested), the blur effect will revert to the originally intended visual appearance when the gaussian blur effect visibility is toggled in 24.1 or 24.0. The actual blur value in the gaussian blur settings is unchanged.

   For example with an arbitrary number, a gaussian blur effect of value 100 applied to a vector shape in 24.2 produces are larger / stronger blur effect than it does in 24.1 or 24.0.

   Also, in 24.2.1, a vector shape with a gaussian blur effect applied to it will appear differently on a white art board background than it will with a white filled vector shape behind it. When a white shape is placed behind the blurred object, the blur appears larger than it does on the white artboard.

   The Gaussian Blur Effect "Effect→Blur→Gaussian Blur" is now behaving differently in 24.2 than it was in 21.x. Updating to 24.2.1 did not solve the issue.

9. White-to-black gradients in opacity masks don’t go fully transparent

   For opacity masks, 100% White should represent a 100% absence of masking and 100% Black should represent 100% masking (like in Photoshop).

   The current system in Illustrator seems very unintuitive and flawed – a basic white to black gradient does not even totally obscure an image/object at one end of the gradient.

   It shouldn't be the case that you then have further reduce the opacity of the gradient colours to achieve a standard gradient effect.

   Make sure you use RGB black instead of Grayscale black in your gradients when making opacity mask in a RGB-based document to avoid shallow blacks and not fading to a complete zero.

   More on that in the comments.

   If you happen to have the same problem, please still add a vote to the request, to track statistics.

10. Gaussian Blur Bug Changes Appearance Between Different Versions

    This is a major flaw!

    We have an Illustrator file created in CC 2019 (23.0.6), it contains a PSD element that has a gaussian blur effect applied to it in Illustrator, set to a radius of 9 pixels, this produced a subtle blurred appearance. The file was then sent to a printer for test printing where they are using Illustrator CC 2021 (version unknown) and when they open the file the object becomes very blurred, completely changing its appearance.

    I've managed to replicate the bug using Illustrator CC 2020, the object's radius blur effect changes to 9.021 pixels and the appearance becomes very blurred, see images attached*. FYI the raster effects matched in both versions of Illustrator, nothing was changed at all when opening the file.

    Unfortunately the printer didn't check the PDF we supplied to see if it matches the appearance and our client was not happy when he received the proof.

    *Please note that in the 1st screenshot, I haven't got 'Preview' ticked but the appearance is correct.

11. Can’t make an object opaque

    So, I have a very odd quirk happening. When I changed an element from 100% opaque to 70% then copied it and grouped it. Now when I ungroup it the same element that was 70% opaque now thinks it is 100% opaque.

    Essentially I can no longer make that element completely opaque anymore. I have to place another instance. This is a bit of a pain when I have resized or altered the placed element.

    I am running the latest version of Illustrator as of this post.

    I did some searching here and my issue is very similar to this issue:

    Bug - Element Transparency not adjustable after setting transparency once.

    Placing elements on pasteboard works fine. I adjusted the transparency of the element on layer to 40% over a red box. Now the element shows that transparency. If you try to revise the transparency the properties window shows the element at 100%. There is no way to adjust the transparency back to it's original 100% or know the current transparency.

12. Can't change 3D materials color since version 26.3.1

    Just reporting the bug discussed in https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/i-can-t-change-3d-color-materials-in-illustrator-may-update-2022/m-p/12967705/page/2 .
    In short, color and other 3D material parameters are not longer configurable since version 26.3.1

13. Overprint and darken doesn't work properly when it doesn't exist a background color.

    Illustrator 25.4.1 (64 bit) in Windows 10

    When we use darken+overprint in objects that are over some background, we don't have a problem. But if we don't have a background it does the similar to a multiply appearance.

    Is there a way to fix this problem?

14. Clean Up Unpainted Objects removes unpainted paths participating in groups with appearance applied

    Appearance fields are sometimes deleted when I do command Clean Up. This is a bug and needs to be resolved. As it looks in the video.

15. Transform effect and Move dialog refuse to use negative numbers

    This has been a problem for a long time -- not just the current version of Illustrator. When applying a transform effect to an object and using the "move" part of the effect, negative numbers get converted to positive numbers. Occasionally I can "fool" the effect by not previewing the results but that doesn't work often. This happens whether I type in the numbers by hand or use the slider.

    Does anybody else have this problem today with the recent Ai builds?

16. Revolve Effect - Object Appearance Error "CANT"

    Windows 10 Home - 64bit.
    Illustrator CC18. 22.1

    When selecting Effects> Revolve on an object (a semi-circle) I get the error:

    "The operation cannot be completed because of an unknown error. [CANT]"
    Followed by another dialogue box:
    "An error occurred while processing the appearance of an object."

    What's going on here?

17. Changing Overprint or blending mode on part of a text resets when file is reopened

    1. Create a text box, on a colour background.
    2. Make some of the text a colour, some black.

    The black does not overprint, it reverses ("knocks") out of other text in the same box reverses out (becuase it's colour or white).

    If you fix this by making the black text multiply, on reopening the file, it has reverted to reversing out.

18. Outline stroke effect only works when applied first

    When applying Outline stroke and roughen to a stroke (in order to render its width irregular) you have to actually select Outline stroke from the menu before seleting roughen. It doesn't work when you just rearrange them in the appearance panel.

19. Colour Variation when using "Darken" transparency

    Why am I getting a colour variation on screen when using the "Darken" mode in the transparency field.
    See attached illustrator Pdf.
    The "Substrate" spot colour has the "Darken" applied which is layered on top of the colour wedges.
    Should the colours of the wedges not display the same irrespective of whether "Overprint Preview" is on or off?

20. Maintain graph styles when updating data (bar graph issue)
