Can't Print Illustration
Illustrator refuses to print even small 8.5 x 11 files to our desktop printer. This is an essential part of this program and severely impacts my ability to design and create production files when I cannot print out a simple proof without exporting it to a PDF before Printing.

Hi,
I came across this problem, and what worked for me was to simply select the correct printer. When you give something to print a dialogue box appears stating the printer you will use to print. eg. HP 5820 but your selected printer is something else. This mismatch seemed to cause the problem. Simply by selecting the correct printer solved the issue. Attaching files so my explanation becomes clear.
Hopefully it works out for others. -

CC 2018 brought on these issues. 2017 never did this.
simple fix save 2 copies of the file. #1 has all fonts intact...#2 has all fonts converted to outlines (expanded) or however you want to go about it). #2 will print fine. Or get a postscript printer and just print away.
I print films from PS printer...but I have to go through the run around for color comps.
I've gotten used to it but still very annoying. -

I have a similar problem. My printer is an HP Designjet 111. Up until about a month ago (after a Windows 10 update) it worked fine. Our tech people have not been able to solve this. I cannot print from Illustrator to this printer. It's a legacy device, using a USB 1.0-2.0 port. I've already installed a legacy USB card in my computer, and this has not yet solved this problem.

Another temporary fix that seems to work is checking the "Print as Bitmap" box in the print menu > Advanced

I have a version Illustrator 23.0.1 and I can't print either. Using HP Color Laser Pro M252DW. On latest Windows 10 on HP Spectre 360.

I have a workaround: Save the file as a .pdf and then open it in Acrobat; print. It's an extra step, yes, but until they figure this out, it does work.

This Issue is very Common, There is a need to work on it. Why does Illustrator refuse to print small files? Is this would be possible to first convert the file to PDF? For more Information Regarding Printers You may Visit:

I've been struggling with this issue for a few months now. Illustrator will only print if text has been outlined. Jeff's comment about this being a Windows OS issue makes a lot of sense. Hopefully this is resolved soon. I often forget to undo convert to outlines and end up saving the document and losing the editable text. My fault, I know, but still this shouldn't be an issue.

We've had this issue for a few weeks now and it's been a real hindrance to our office work flow since we, too, use Illustrator for proofing purposes. It's annoying because I've searched all over for solutions directly from Adobe and it seems they're not even publicly acknowledging that there is even an issue here. We've reached out to support at Adobe to no avail.
I can confirm though that converting all text to outlines does actually function as a workaround. It's not ideal, but until Microsoft fixes Windows 10 it seems it's all we can do.

I had this problem and substituted the font Myriad Pro from the list under Type>Find font with Arial and document now prints fine.
