The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error. CANT
Since the last update.. Every time I try to trace & make something. I get this error message "The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error. CANT" then the placed image I tried to trace disappears and only an empty selection box remains. If i do "undo" the image will return. How come I cannot trace anymore? What can I do to fix it?
Please accept my sincere apology for the inconvenience. Please get in touch with us at any of the other support channels – https://helpx.adobe.com/support.html . Since this is not a generic issue that we can reproduce at our end, we will need someone to look into your machine to figure out what is going on here.

"Solution for Adobe Illustrator. Regarding the problem...
"The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error. (Cant)"
The problem is caused by some files in the directories.
"c: \ Program Files \ Common Files \ Adobe \ UXP \"
In Windows 10 (X64)
Rename to "c: \ Program Files \ Common Files \ Adobe \ 00UXP \"
(In this way they are not erased and you can return to them, for if other programs fail)
It contains the routines for the start screen and new documents of the different Abobe programs.

luck!!! ;) :)"
Thank you so much, this actually works for me

Hi
I had the exact problem about a year ago. Not sure if your situation is the same. But.... After hours of research and tech support. The only way i was able to resolve the issue was to upgrade from a 32 bit system to a 64 bit system. So, you either have to wipe your drive and reload or buy a new computer. If you have a 32 bit system, my understanding is that the new software will not perform some functions like trace.I hope this is helpful.

I had this problem, but figured out that the images were just waaaay too big to trace. Once sized down I had no problems. Might make the letters a bit wonky, but that's a pretty easy fix! Just delete the existing letters and add them back on with a text box and create outlines. Hope this helps!

I got mine fixed. Here's how:
1. Launch Illustrator and the error message appears. Just ignore it and let Illustrator finish its launching.
2. Now everything looks screwy because you don't see pallets. Just go to Workspace and reset it. Then all of your pallets are back.
3. Quit Illustrator and relaunch it. You won't see that error message again. Everything is back to normal. -

No.. Adobe told me that some functions (like tracing) will not work with the new illustrator versions if you have a 32 bit system. SO, the fix is….
1.) Wipe your hard drive clean and reinstall windows as 64 bit.
2.) Buy a new computer with 64 bit system.
Not sure if there are any other alternatives. I bought a new computer. It works now.Adobe probably could make a patch to fix this. But I was told that updating to 64 bit was only fix.
Good Luck!
