This file has been modified outside illustrator
After updating to Illustrator 24.0, sometimes when saving a file, I get a popup that says 'this file has been modified outside illustrator. do you want to continue?'
We hope this season ends on a joyful note and continues into a safe and prosperous New Year for you and your family.
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year 2020.
We have tried to address this issue in our beta build of 24.0.2.
Please visit adobe.ly/1o2SDsg and get the latest build for version 24.0.2 (Build 1).
Please do let us know if this issue is resolved for you or not.

Agreed, starting to see this constantly now after it had disappeared for a while.
I have not had this problem for a few years, but it has now reappeared. I am running Illustrator 25.0 on Mojave 10.14.6.
Hi Illustrator Team,
I've updated to the latest version 25 AI 2021. I'm stilling getting popup that says 'this file has been modified outside illustrator. do you want to continue?'
I didn't have this issue until I updated to Catalina in order to start using CC 2021. Now it happens pretty much every time I save. Thanks.
Saving to MyCloud PR2100. This is very nerving!

Yes, this still seems to be an issue for folders that are backed up to a web service (Google File Stream here.) I don't see it for files that are saved elsewhere.
Still there, connected to OneDrive. Common Adobe, it's just a checkbox.

"This file has been modified outside of illustrator. do you want to continue?"
Been happening for Months, every time I save to OneDrive!
Please just implement a button to turn off this alert! IT's DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!
Also happening on MacBook Pro 2019. Illustrator 24.2.3. Catalina 10.15.6. OneDrive. Agree with Anonymous of May 6 - should at least have an option to option decide if you want Illustrator to ask you about it or not. Come on Adobe, please sort this out.

Solution on my Mac-System: I was working on the file which was on Google Clouds Stream. Now i saved the .ai on my local drive. Now, when I'm saving the file I don't get this notification anymore...

Im still getting this error- latest OS latest illustrator and saving to one drive.
It still happens in version 24.1 (Mac)
It's really frustrating and annoying. It should be an option decide if you want illustrator to ask you about it or not
Ok, so while I'm not getting the pop-up anymore, Illustrator becomes so busy whenever I work on a file with links that it freezes my ENTIRE system. I'm on Mac Mojave 10.14.6. I have to hard reboot the computer whenever this happens, which is often.
Same here. My file is on OneDrive on Mac. Although I haven't tested it, I suspect Dropbox-resident files would be the same, since I think all of these cloud apps are editing files to change the state of the sync icon for Finder/Explorer.

Yep, it's back for me as well (macOS 10.14.6, AI v24.1), started 1-2 days ago and now happens more than half the time I save. Note that I'm saving to a Google File Stream volume, if that makes a difference.
Having same issue.
Saving to my external toshiba hard drive that is formatted ntfs. Never had this issue before.
It even vexes us in Alaska.
v. 24.0.3, OSX mojave 10.14.6
