Can't finish previewing. Could not complete the requested operation.
I applied a pattern to a stroke by accident and received this error. I'm using v25.0.1 on a PC with 16 gb RAM and a dedicated graphics card.

After around 10 minutes work on a file - and I'm working on a simple design for a logo, the screen turns grey and a message appears saying 'Can't Finish Previewing.' The it crashes and quits.
This has happened at least a dozen times in the last 24 hours.
I've restarted, uninstalled and reinstalled Illustrator 2019. I've deleted temp files. I've created a new, clean file and still it is happening.
I'm on the latest OS X.

I couldn't take it anymore. I finally rolled back to v22. Just gonna hang tight until they fix this.

Finally got a crash on macOS. It happened after trying to keep on working even after I was forced into outline mode. Please find as a text file under the following link – https://www.dropbox.com/s/9at0gshbv3w464g/Adobe%20Illustrator%2023%20crash%20raport.txt?dl=0

Half way through a simple task in Illustrator CC 2019, all my work switches preview to "outline" and an error message keep showing: "Can't finish previewing."
This really sucks!
This version is RUBBISH!!!
Better switch back to CC 2018.

2019 CC always appear attached and then auto quit the software. I have never seen this in 2018CC, how I can back to use 2018CC , I'm using creative cloud to update 2019CC, it's rubbish for me.

It's also on Windows 10 with more than enough RAM (128 GB), dual Xeon, dual nvidia GTX 1080ti.

It's real bad... running an late 2015 iMac 27" with Mohave, 32 GB RAM. Can't even work in a simple two-color logo .ai file with a few vector shapes in it for more than a few minutes without the "cant finish previewing" error and subsequent crash.

Same issue. I thought it seemed to be happening more when working with gradients, but it seems to be doing it all the time now.

Same issue here on Win10. Even tiny files will eventually trigger it.

I ended up just uninstalling v23 and reinstalling v22.1 this morning through Creative Cloud app. So far, has been stable all day.
For all those working on deadlines, this might be the best route until another patch is created to address the issue.

Just to note... I wish I would have seen all these complaints before upgrading! This issue was reported back in March, and has not yet been resolved?!

Exact same problem on an Macbook Pro 2.2 Ghz Intel Core i7, 16 GB ram,, macOS Mojave 10.14.
Constant crashing. Switches to viewframe view and says, "Cannot finish previewing", happens on very small, simple documents. Also, since upgrading, the "drop shadow" effect is slower to render, and also seems to render at a lower resolution than previous versions.
