Black Boxes appear and Unable to zoom past 1600% when GPU performance is turned off in Illustrator 25.3.1
Well, I updated illustrator today and have major viewing issues.
Black Boxes appear when selecting outlined text with the direct selection tool, when moving a shape, and in the upper left corner when viewing artboard. Everything disappears when zooming in more than 2400% in Preview mode and has a pixelated outline.
MacOS Catalina version 10.15.6
Adobe Illustrator v25.3.1
I am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 26.2.1 which is available worldwide now.
Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.
You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html
Thank you for all the feedback. Keep it coming!

I've had this same issue when using CPU view. I found that going to Preferences/User Interface and turning off "Large Tabs" fixes the issue.

Hi all,
We also have this issue. We have found:
- - - -
GPU on or off doesn't really make a difference.
- - - -
Happens less when there is only one file open. Happens more when there are multiple files open.
- - - -
DOES NOT happen in Ai2019 or Ai2020.
- - - -
DOES HAPPEN in Ai2021 & Ai2022 -

I am recently having this same issue after upgrading to Monterey. GPU is already turned on, and the gray preview only worsens when I turn off GPU. I am running on a Late 2013 Mac Pro with a 3.5GHz 6-core Intel Xeon E5 processor, 24 GB 1866 MHz DDR3 memory, and AMD FirePro D700 6GB graphics card.

Performance and view issues after upgrading to Monterey.
With GPU on, files take for ever to open/process
(timed one file- 25mb 1:40 to open with GPU on, :14 with GPU off.Same zoom issues as expressed in other comments. Vector lines and anchor points change from specified layer color to grey with GPU turned off...but living with that until problem is fixed because having GPU on is far to unproductive.
This was not an issue before Monterey.

On MBP 16 M1 try switching on GPU - that got rid of my grey screen on zooms over 400%

Same issue as everyone else, gray/black screen when zooming past 1600%. New software, new computer, worse results than 10-year-old computer and old software... nice... ugh.

I have the same issues after upgraded to Monterey, AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 4 GB. I have the problem when Illustrator is using on my 27" Apple Thunderbolt Display. If I move Illustrator to my MBP16, it seems fine to zoom over 1600%.

Really, Adobe / Illustrator Team? You can't reproduce this, yet all your customers are having problems and have explained it multiple ways on multiple websites? Your PAYING customers need this basic zoom feature. Please fix your software, it's already November 20, 2021.

Same problem! Paste remember layers still not working also! bit of a joke really!!
Surely I shouldn't have to keep changing GPU performance to work around this! I thought it was an update? how do you guys keep on getting it all so wrong?

Might have a workaround solution for this
see attached,
go to View, then screen mode, then change from normal mode to Full Screen with menu bar. -

I have this problem as well. Zooming in over 1600%, all my graphics disappear. Anyone find a solution for this?

I'm not sure what good a test file will do - it's every file.
I don't have the option to turn off GPU performance. -

I'm having this issue as well—September 2021. Attached is a screenshot zoomed at 2400% (which looks good), and also a screenshot at the next zoom jump of 3200% with all items selected. If they are not selected, nothing shows at all—just a gray background. I did work on the file briefly in Illustrator for iPad, then I airdropped the file to my computer and began working on it again in Illustrator 2020 for Mac (in case that iPad detail helps ferret out the issue).
