The 'work around' i.e. changing the size of the 'save as' box worked well for me. I only had to change it once and since then I have been able to save both to my computer and the cloud. I am told the 'work around' can be used for InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
Also downloaded the Illustrator Beta version and that works fine.
Thanks to whoever came up with the solution!

I was directed to download Illustrator Beta from 'Beta Apps' in Creative Cloud. This version (26.2) works fine.

Save as is greyed out, save as works for first time but next time it is greyed out!
Tried these already -
1. Reset preferences.
2. Removed Suitcase fusion and font doctor.
3. Performed font cache and restarted computer.
4. Validated fonts in font book.
5. Installed 25.4.1 version of A but same issue.
6. Current Ai version is 26.1.
7. Issue is with creating new files -

@ankitgoyal, your "resize save window" workaround solves my issue for SAVE, SAVE AS, and SAVE A COPY files on my desktop. thanks

After installing Monterey 12.3 I'm also unable to save any Ai (26.1) file on my MacbookPro. Nothing works so I have to forceQuit Ai. I can however still save in Icloud. Please ADOBE give us the solution or upgrade 26.2 asap. thx!
update: AH ok , resizing the frame works indeed, didn't read it yet) -

Whilst we're waiting for a workable solution to this bug. I've been saving new documents to the Creative Cloud storage space, then viewing the list of documents via a web browser, downloading the cloud doc to my desktop, which then turns it into a standard AI file.
It's not ideal, but it now means I can create new AI files and still do my job.
