Mark layers/sublayers in the layers panel
We used to be able to easily tell layers and other containers apart in the Layers panel. Layers/sublayers were marked with a darker or lighter background in the Layers panel.
This is important for several functionality that can be applied to groups but not layers and vice versa. Particularly when you deal with complex artwork such as puppets for Character Animator, but not limited to them. And you need it when analyzing other peoples' files.5 votes -

Allow adding of freeform gradients to CC libraries. Very inconvenient to have to re-open legacy files each time I need the gradient. This gradient is used consistently for our brand packaging across different products and designs.

Asset Export - Ability to reorder asset list view and group items

Love the asset export, but it'd be really useful to click/drag change the order of my asset list in Asset Export panel.

Mobile Creations
In the 2015 version of Illustrator, when opening the app, there was a Mobile Creations section where I could open any of the drawings I had made on my iPad. While I was only able to open these if no other Illustrator files were currently open, it was at least easy to access tese items when needed.
Currently, there isn't an option for this and I have to install the older version after mine updated automatically.

Right click menu for typography
One of my biggest pet peeves working with fonts in Illustrator is when I am switching fonts within a document. When I highlight copy then right click to bring up the menu to change to a "recent" font, I have to scroll through the "fonts" option which sometimes engages to open but has a huge delay because it has to read ALL my fonts first. Why not reverse the order of these two menu items? I believe it would be a nice enhancement everyone would enjoy.

I would be absolutely DELIGHTED if you could introduce a way to export G-Code from Illustrator. I have a laser engraver (Cubiio) and the only way I can turn vectors into G-Code at the moment is by using Inkscape and an extension by J Tech Photonics. I hate Inkscape with a passion so I grind my teeth every time. Feature to be able to edit class name of SVG file. We faced some issue, when using svg of same class names in a single page.
If we are able to edit class name of SVG files, there wont be any class override and style overide issues.

Documents get opened in XD instead of Ai
Can we go back to having .ai files be read by Ai? this new update is not allowing me to view .ai files they all want to be read by XD.
Open my files with Ai instead of XD1 voteFor some reason the OS file associations got reassigned by XD, probably because it got installed later. We can usually change these in Windows Settings > Apps > Default Apps > Choose Default Apps by File Type.

This is a proposal to improve the layout of the Illustrator option.
Illustrator format files contain two different types of data: PGF and PDF data. Currently, Illustrator options have three settings: PGF only, PDF only, and common settings for both PGF and PDF. However, these settings are currently mixed together in the window, making it difficult for users to understand which setting they are operating on.

Save color separations in separate files
Can we save JPG in each color separation? Because we can only see the separation in print preview, but we can not save the jpg in each color.

Share for Review - Ability for teams to update links
Currently in InDesign and Illustrator, the person that created a review link is the only one able to update the review link. There are times when another person on my team needs to update a file and send an updated review link, but to do so, they have to create a copy of the file and make a brand new link. Add an ability to export TIFF with transparency
Unless I've gone completely mad, I could swear there used to be the option to Export a file to TIF with transparency (a checkbox in the export settings). This no longer appears as an option. How does one export a transparent TIF these days??

SVG Paths with marker endings render only the markers, not the paths
- Import the attached SVG file into Illustrator.
expected result: Illustrator should display a line with an arrow at the end.
actual result: Illustrator displays only the arrow at the end.also attached: image of problem behavior.
removing the marker-end attribute from the path in question will display the line.

PDFs in Libraries: Why I can't edit them?
In Libraries:
.AI files are editable with a ctrl-click > Edit
.PDF are not.Please allow PDF files to be open in Adobe Illustrator.

We want you to make file size light even if we save by "Create PDF compatible file".
Selecting “Create PDF compatible file” saves the file size. We want you to be able to choose a resolution such as "350dpi" or "72dpi", and you can see the preview and reduce the file size.

Allow users to set direction for X and Y axes
Several versions ago Adobe decided to flip Y-axis, so origin now is placed TOP-left instead of BOTTOM-left, as it was before.
They say it was done for compatibility with Photoshop and InDesign, which both have y-axis going down.I think that breaking people's workflow, deciding only ONE direction is right, was wrong.

Add features to the Rearrange Artboards dialog
I create a lot of new artboards ( 1 for each screen I am designing). Since Illustrator always puts new artboards at the right of the current top row on the workspace (regardless of the order specified for rearranging artboards), I often have to use the Rearrange Artboards command to make more space for the next artboard. The more artboards in the file, the more often I have to rearrange artboards.

Export for Screens in AI should be just like PS's Version
PLEASE make the export for screens function precisely like the one used in Photoshop.
In particular:
(1) it needs to be possible to export at <0.5x, which is currently the upper limit. If I am producing assets for iOS @3x for whatever reason -- say, they include an unscalable PNG from PS for instance -- to produce the 1x asset I need to export @0.33x, which you don't allow, but PS does. (less important but also mind-boggling is why you don't allow upscaling beyond 33.3x.)
(2) The default export option should be to export to the SAME FOLDER IN WHICH…

Copy parts from multiple layers into multiple layers
I work with a lot of parts that I need to keep separated for output. A simple example is a complex, compound shape with 20 elements. I have 10 on a "cut" layer and 10 on a "print" layer. If I copy and paste them, I can only paste them into one layer. I might want them to go back into the same layers or into 2 new layers. I never want them in the same layer. I now have to go in and separate them all into the proper layers.

6 votesYou can enable Paste Remembers Layers in the panel’s menu to make Illustrator remember layers your objects were copied from and insert them on layers with same name when pasted. If these layers don’t exist, Illustrator will create them. Be careful and disable it when not needed, if might make a mess when not needed. Save for Web dialog does not remember all customized settings
We create web posting formats of figures in Illustrator and my customized settings do not save. Why do we have the option of Save Settings....when they do not save?
File > Export > Save for Web (Legacy) > Name > Custom setting named and save.
The Custom setting retains one of the defaults, in my case PNG-24, but does not retain any numerical measurements that IO enter beneath it.
We save many files with the same specs for our web posts. Why do I have a custom option to Save Settings when they only save a default. What's the point?…
