3. Discretionary hyphens do not seem to work

   I can’t get discretionary hyphens to work in Illustrator CC 23.0.2, either by shift-command-- or with Type->Insert Special Character->Hyphens and Dashes->Discretionary Hyphen. Whether Hyphenate is turned on or off for the paragraph does not matter. Language does not seem to make a difference either.
   Only the hyphens added by Illustrator itself are obeyed.

4. Missing fonts issue

   It's not reading Adobe fonts. It keeps saying to activate the font every time I open a document. The program hangs trying to activate a font, making the file not work properly "without" a font that was perviously activated.

5. Wrong font shows up in Illustrator when activated in Adobe Fonts

   When I activate a font in adobe fonts the wrong font shows up in illustrator. It isnt even in the same font family.

6. Character/Paragraph panels - lazy and/or incorrect updating

   Illustrator 23.0.3 on Win10

   It is vitally important to me that the Character and Paragraph panels tell me the truth at all times: an accurate description of the properties in play based on the selected text or the cursor position if nothing is selected.

   I constantly run into the problem where I select a line of text and the 'space before' and 'space after' controls in the Paragraph panel are completely wrong. Clicking the up/down arrows on the controls will change the displayed (wrong) value, and the text will suddenly leap to god-knows-where, rather than the desired "up or down by 1pt" relative to the other text in the paragraph.

   Sometimes I can see the correct current values for the text by putting the cursor in the line and moving it around with the arrow keys. The actual current values will briefly display before being replaced with Illustrator's mistaken idea of what values should be displayed.

   See attached video of the Character panel doing the same thing. The cursor is on a line of text that is set in Adobe Caslon at 25pt, but the panel is telling me it's Myriad Pro 12pt. Each time I move the cursor, the correct values are (briefly) displayed before being replaced with the uselessly wrong values. FWIW, the wrong values are the defaults: "[Normal Character Style]" and "[Normal Paragraph Style]" in the Character/Paragraph Styles panels, and if I created a new text box and started typing, yes, I'd get Myriad Pro 12/14.4. But having already typed text and changed its style to something else, I need the panels to show those values.

   It's more than a little irritating.

   Illustrator 23.0.3 on Win10

7. BUG Nordic keyboard and special characters €, $, @ etc

   Cant type special characters €, $, @ on nordic keyboard. Because Illustrator is overriding AltGr key function using it to make a selection.

8. Big problem with 'Horizontal Align Center' bug fix

   Windows 7 64bit professional service pack 1,
   Illustrator CC 23.0.6.

   The recent fix for "The 'Horizontal Align Center' option does not align text with the center of object if text has tracking applied on it" in version 23.1 is causing all of our files, tens of thousands of documents, to display incorrectly when you open them, shifting text automatically. We need to be able to turn off this "fix" in settings or something please. We produce scale rules and navigational equipment etc. and almost every one of our files is incorrect if we upgrade to 23.1! We are stuck on version 23.0.6 until we can find a way around this. Please help.

9. constrain with shift key not working

   I'm trying to move the bottom line of a text box.

   I select the box's line with open arrow, hold down the SHIFT key to constrain - and it automatically deselects the type box that I was trying to move. I can select the line with the open arrow and move it that way, but it's too easy to make an error and shift the box. I need the corners to remain perfectly square which is why I'm holding the shift key.

   I've had this problem with the last few upgrades.

   I'm an Adobe Illustrator user for more than 25 years - certainly not a newbie.

   PLEASE FIX

10. Illustrator freeze after trying to paste HD-picture from the clipboard in Text Block

    Trying to paste HD-picture from the clipboard in Text Block - Illustrator perceives the picture as a set of characters and can not cope with the amount of information.

    Expected result: The action should not have a visible result, or there should be a warning about an invalid action

    1. Open Illustrator
    2. Open some of HD resolution pictures (PNG, JPG) in the Illustrator
    3. Select the picture (CMD+A)
    4. Embed the picture if it is linked
    5. Copy the picture (CMD+C)
    6. Select the Text Tool, and make one-click anywhere in a workspace of the document to start Text Block.
    7. Past from clipboard (CMD+V)

11. Stroke behind text.

    In the appearances panel, stroke is never allowed to go behind the type with click and drag.

    I have to "trick" it by adding a stroke behind a shape, then making a style and then applying that on the type.

    Would love for this bug to be smoothed out.

12. Type Tool is very slow - Adobe Illustrator CC 2019

    I recently update Adobe Illustrator CC to the latest version (CC 2019) and the type tool is painfully slow. Every time I try to use it, I get 15-20 seconds of the pinwheel before the cursor shows up. Once the tool is finally activated, everything takes a prolonged amount of time (5-10 seconds to type a letter, etc.) Thanks for any help.

13. text expands inaccurately

    Mac OS 10.13.6 AI 23.1.1
    See att screenshot. I converted this type to outlines, then Expanded Appearance, then Expanded stroke and fill. Results are superimposed over the original red/orange type. You can that the converted outline does not match the type; in general the top is pushed rightward and the bottom leftward. I tried skewing the outline to correct it but while that may nudge some curves and vertices back to where they belong, it pushes others out. The only solution I know is to tweak and/or redraw the path, which is an extremely time-consuming task. It appears that this problem arises with some but not all fonts.

14. Fonts not updating on the fly

    Copied from my forum inquiry that I eventually solved on my own...

    I am a type designers & I use illustrator in building & testing fonts as part of my production workflow. I use the same array of font apps along with my cc2019 suite on 2 different machines. One is a mac mini one is an imac, both are on the latest mac os.

    On the mac mini, with Illustrator open I can see changes to a font immediately reflected in the document. In other words if I replace a .otf or .ttf font file installed at mac hd/library/fonts any changes in that font immediately update in the open .ai document. If I install a new font the font will immediately pop up in the font menu.

    On my imac neither of these things work. I need to quit & restart Illustrator to see new fonts, some fonts refuse to ever show up at all & I can not see any changes made to existing fonts unless I quit & restart Illustrator.

    I've been searching & searching & trying everything for hours & hours & I can't fix it. Any clue would be greatly appreciated.

    The solution...

    Both the problem & the solution are similar to issues I was having with Dreamweaver cc2019 on the same machine. In both cases all menu based & keystroke based methods or purging &/or resetting the app preferences & cached data failed to solve the issue. In both cases I needed to find the offending pref or cache file and MANUALLY delete (or remove) it.

    While it was a slightly more obscure file in the case of Dreamweaver, in the case of Illustrator the offending file was the main prefs file "Adobe Illustrator Prefs" located at:
    harddrivename/users/username/Library/preferences/Adobe Illustrator 23 Settings/en_US/Adobe Illustrator Prefs

    The hard reset of preferences done by option>command>shift while starting Illustrator failed to purge whatever bad data was causing Illustrator to refuse to update fonts on the fly. Only manual removal of this file fixed the problem. The file will be regenerated automatically the next time Illustrator is started up.

    Purging of any of the specifically font related prefs/caches did not seem to help at all.

    The app seems to behave as expected now. If I modify a font & install a new .otf or .ttf under identical names, version numbers etc. Illustrator will imediately recognize & display the changes live in the document with no need to close & reopen the doc, restart the app or the machine or reset any panels.

15. v23.1.1: Text with the "Outline Object" effect and Preview Bounds enabled has shifted to the right when opening an existing file

    We have existing AI files with text, which has the following characteristics:
    - Text has the Outline Object effect enabled;
    - Illustrator preferences "Preview Bounds" is checked;
    - Paragraph is "centred"

    When we open these AI files we find that the text has been shifted to the right a little bit.

    This has occurred on both the Windows 10 and Mac OS Mojave operating systems. To fix the issue we downgraded to Illustrator 23.0.6

17. Tracking plus center/right justify broken

    macOS 12.13, Illustrator 2019 v23.1.1

    The v23.1 update broke center/right justify on point type when tracking is applied. When tracking is applied, and type is center or right justified, the alignment uses the tracking after the last character to determine the center or right alignment point, then the type is not visually aligned correctly.

    To reproduce in v23.1.1:

    Create a point type object, type XX for the text.

    Center justify the type. The type will correctly be centered exactly between the 2 X's.

    Add a lot of tracking to the type, the anchor point (center) will be just to the left of the right-hand X, and the X[tracking-space]X will not be centered on that.

    Path type center justified with tracking does NOT have this problem.

    Illustrator v23.0.6 does not have this problem.

18. Glyph rendering bug with non-empty space char on OT-SVG fonts

    The space character is not rendered consistently when it includes an SVG glyph:

    • The glyph is invisible by default
    • But - as expected - it is visible in full color when moving the text object, and in greyscale version when switching to Outline mode

19. Thai text inconsistency between versions

    Thai text is inconsistent between Illustrator 2017 21.1.0 and 2018 22.1 OSX 10.14.6

    After opening and clicking on text created in 2017 accents are moved. Font Tahoma same version in both cases. See attached.
