Random crashing - 24.0.3
I have a brand new 16" MacBook Pro.
OS: Catalina 10.15.2. 32Gb Ram. 2.4 Gz Processor.
Illustrator 2020 v24.0.3
The app is constantly, randomly crashing. When waking up machine (10 min auto sleep) there is a message waiting that Illustrator has unexpectedly quit. ,And, now it seems hung up on launch.
Here's what I've done so far:
- Ran app diagnostics as recommended on restart. No info was provided.
- Uninstalled and reinstalled.
- Disabled lots of 3rd party extensions
- Restarted machine
- I have 90 crash reports.
This issue is fixed in Illustrator 25.0 and above.

this time it seems it was the first time that it was a reason other than the graphics card:

please respond here adobe! i have had ONLY problems with EVERY update version of Adobe Illustrator and also Indesign since i got the macbook pro16". As you can read in the comments, it seems to only affect macbook pro 16". Apple is denying blame and pointing the finger at adobe. I have no desire to continue to work with Adobe products and try as far as possible to work only with Sketch and other software and will soon cancel my subscription!
ist allways crashing in relation to the graphic card or wakeup/sleep

Currently using Metal Build, but Text tool is bugged as well. I can't scale text up...
It seems that random crashes are not there anymore but new things are there. -

Hello, I have been having the issue described here and am now trying the Metal beta. So far it seems to have fixed the crashing issue.
I was surprised that this Metal support fix was not present in the recently released Illustrator 2021 ... any ETA on when this fix will be incorporated into the current version? I would prefer not to have to use an outdated beta build in order to avoid serious crashing issues. Thanks!

is it possible that it occurs primarily in relation to external monitors? In my case it is a 4K Samsung U28E590. And also the graphics card mode change on Macbook Pro 16 (AMD <-> Intel)

Since I got my MBP 16 6 months ago I don't think I've naturally quit Illustrator more than a dozen times. It crashes on a daily basis, every time after the computer sleeps, but often just when I do something simple like close a document window.
The "crash next steps" link is not helpful because I am not getting a "normal" crash report (Adobe nor OSX) that shows the logs or reporting options -- just a dialog that says Illustrator has crashed -- and I can't find records of the crashes in console. Wonder if Adobe has been missing this for the past few versions because of the crash not being reported or logged.
Haven't tried Metal build, that link refused to load for me.

My issues with crashing persists as well after several attempts to fix it with Adobe support. I'm using a MacBook Pro 16 (2019) as many others with the same issue. Come on now Adobe, please get this sorted.

the problem is the same for me as it has been since I use Illustrator (with any current version since January) on a MacBook Pro 16. Only when I disable GPU support, there are no crashes. also testet with the current 2021 verison with the same result.

I still see a lot of messages concerning random crashes, and for me Illustrator is still totally unusable in a professional environment. Unchecking GPU performance leads to a laggy interface where it's impossible to work smoothly.
Metal Beta don't work at all and generate crashes too. I've already shared to many crashes without any feedback from Illustrator teams. Fed up with this app. Doing most of my vector work on Affiity Designer right now. -

Hi, i have exactly the same issues with the OP. And i have installed metal build. All seems good so far. There was only one crash, which I think was down to other bugs than graphic card.
But my main issue is, when back in CPU performance mode, it's still super laggy. I found the same issue with all other versions including 2019, 2020 AI.
I think it's down to the new processor of my new iMac. (2020 new model iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020); 3.6 GHz 10-Core Intel Core i9; 72 GB 2133 MHz DDR4; AMD Radeon Pro 5500 XT 8 GB, Catalina 10.15.6 (19G2021))

Disabling GPU-performance is the only thing that helped me (but then unfortunately very bad and unacceptable performance as a new +4k€ highend laptop!)

After installed the metal pre build beta 24.3.0, without uninstall the 24.2. It fixed for the random crash issue for ai 24.2, I didn’t use the beta cuz the all the white Color will change to black in the artwork. So I only use the 24.2 but leave the 24.3 beta in MacBook Pro 16. No more random crash for v24.2.

After the most recent update to Mac OS X 10.15.6 I am back to constant crashing. Multiple times per day. I am submitting contact information on each crash report. Adobe engineers, please reach out if I can provide a report or any other information for an investigation. I had submitted some in that past, but don't have time to put in the effort each time unless it is actually being requested
