Grave / Tilde key (`/~) to move / rotate a pattern within shape not working
My Tilde/Grave accent key is no longer working to transform a pattern within an object. Normally, I can rotate or move around a pattern when I hold it down without moving the object. It hasn't worked since my last update.

Since the update, I haven't been able to use the rotate shortcut of 'ctrl+~ - Rotate tool'. This was a GAME CHANGER!! Please bring back!! But also 'ctrl+~+ arrow keys.

When moving a pattern with tilde and direct selection (open arrow) illustrator now erroneously live previews movement of the entire shape along with the pattern rather than just the pattern inside the shape. This is bugged behavior in 29.8.2 and needs to be fixed. Tilde + Rotate or scale work correctly—Tilde + move is bugged.

The tilde doesn't work on a French keyboard either. Do you know the shortcut, please?

The tilde is working for me when I am zoomed in on the pattern
If I am zoomed out a little, then the shape moves as one. -

Check your Keyboard Increment in the General page of Preferences. Sometimes, after an update, the increment changes to zero or to an amount that is so small that it looks like the pattern is not moving at all.

That's still not true on a UK keyboard. It's actually now working but been moved to the '/@ key.
It might be a good idea to update all of the shortcuts in the menus to the correct ones for the region the user is in? Loads of mine are wrong in the menus, as are the ones in the link, even when I'm redirected to the UK site.

Windows

It works in all versions of Illustrator after CS5 (just checked), but it seems this particular key just works bad when we use non-English keyboard layouts — but again, only for some users.
Do you try this using Korean? -

1. When creating an object
If you press the [ ` ] key and create an object, many objects will be created over time.2. When adjusting the pattern
Press the [ ` ] key on the object to which the pattern is applied.
Only the pattern is adjusted when using the move tool, rotation tool, or size tool.
But this feature is missing in newer versions, available in CS5 -

As of the current situation, I have reverted to Adobe Illustrator 2023 version 27.5. Under the retention of the original preference settings without changing any options, the use of the "~" key regarding this issue has returned to normal. I believe this clearly indicates that some changes were introduced in the latest version, affecting the functionality of this feature. I think this needs improvement in the upcoming updates.

I tried the changes you suggested, but it didn't help with my needs. What I require is no change to the outline itself, only the internal pattern to be moved. The command caused a situation where the outline moved, but the position of my pattern remained unchanged. I need to relocate the pattern within my working area, so this method doesn't work for me.
Unlike the situation in the link you provided, I had both Adobe Illustrator 2023 version 27.0 and Adobe Illustrator 2024 installed simultaneously. I opened both applications at the same time. In the 2023 version, this command was effective (although it ceased to function after I updated to version 27.9 yesterday), but in the 2024 version, it doesn't work.
I'd like to provide a supplement. Yesterday, when updating Adobe Illustrator 2023 to version 27.9, I encountered an error. Consequently, after reinstalling, the same issue appeared in Adobe Illustrator 2023 version 27.9. So... I'm not sure if it's a difference in versions or if, even with the option "Inherit this preference using," some preferences are still overlooked.
During installation, preferences are inherited, so I don't believe it's a simple setting difference. I am a Chinese user from Taiwan, and the suggested method in the link to "delete all languages except American English" doesn't apply to me.

Lii, can you please try to toggle Transform Pattern Tiles option in Preferences > General, and see if it changes anything?
Also — what is your locale? Does it look anything similar to a problem discussed here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/illustrator-2024-tidle-key/m-p/14250827#M388517 ? -

Adobe Illustrator 2023 27.9 and Adobe Illustrator 2024
The ability to move the patterns in my color swatch using the "Left Mouse Button" + "~" or "`" keys, which was available in the previous version, cannot be performed in this version.

Good plan Patricia! I tried all the below tips too, but nothing's worked so far.
English language, UK input (have also tried US), AI v28.0, Windows 11 Pro 22H2 v22621.2506.

Oh, gosh. I thought Adobe had finally fixed it all. Tim, it would useful if you mentioned what OS you use, its language and your input language as well.
