Undo Release Clipping Mask Does Nothing
I recently noticed that if I unclip an object, by accident or necessity, that I cannot undo the step either through the menu Undo or Command key Undo.
I can clip and Command-Z to unclip.
I can manually unclip and Command-Z to reclip.
If I clip, I Command-z to unclip and then Command + Option + Z to redo my last action and it will properly clip. But if I just manually unclip, and then use the Undo command to reclip it like it was? It doesn't work. Nothing happens and it moves on in the history.
I am on…

Draw Inside doesn’t work when a clipping group is selected, requires to select its clipping mask specifically
Draw Inside is great. Draw Inside lets you create a clipping mask in a fraction of the time it takes to create it with Object > Clipping mask > Make. But it's got some annoying issues.
- Draw a shape.
- Select it and turn on Draw Inside.
- Draw some shapes inside it.
- Exit Draw Inside, then select the clipping group with the Selection tool.
- Draw Inside won't work any more.
- Switch to the Direct Selection tool and select the clipping mask — Draw Inside works.
The other case is Draw Inside won’t work with live compound shapes — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/49064681

Draw Inside won’t work with live compound shapes
Draw Inside is great. Draw Inside lets you create a clipping mask in a fraction of the time it takes to create it with Object > Clipping mask > Make. But it's got some annoying issues.
- Draw a shape.
- Draw another shape over it.
- Make these two shapes into a compound shape.
- Select the whole compound shape.
- Draw Inside won't work.
- But you can put some other shapes under the compound shape, select them all, and do Object > Clipping path > Make.

Clipping mask doesn't work correctly
Working is going slow even if on M1 pro MacBook.
And many other bugs...I think Adobe should leave to target end user/ ai works like express etc. and focus on creative people.
All the best...

Inconsistent Print Results with Intertwine Tool
The Intertwine tool does not appear to have consistent results from screen to print. A number of images in which I used the tool appear perfectly fine on screen, and even when exported to different file types (such as jpg), but when they are printed directly from their native AI file, the intertwined areas create graphical abnormalities. I've provided one such example below. The right shows the Intertwine tool failing to show the latch plate in between the hook's base and the hook's tip. In the left image, I've corrected this using a transparency mask instead. Please investigate and fix.

Clipped objects outside of the clipping mask get highlighted with Smart Guides enabled
With Smart guides turned on, the Selection tools see individual items inside the mask (even though when then clicking it only selects the mask). This behavior is also not desirable as it makes selecting objects really tricky.

Intertwine unknots in places on Expand Appearance and PDF Asset Export
In Illustrator 28.5 (macOS 14.5, intel)
• Create intertwine from paths with 2 strokes (lower is black and greater weight)
• Either use Object > Expand Appearance or use Asset Export to create PDF
• Several crossings reverse on some Intertwine objects.2 votes -
Clipping Path Dimensions disregarded when exporting JPG in version 28.5
When using "File -> Export As" to create a JPG of your illustrator document, the size of the JPG includes artwork hidden by a clipping path and adds white space. Attached is an example where I've exported a JPG from versions 28.4.1 and 28.5. The JPG from version 28.5 added additional white space to the left, right, and top edges where artwork was hidden by a clipping path. This is not how Illustrator behaved previously. Is there a workaround?

Rasterizing a clipped image/group of objects results in extra white space in the resulting image — https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/35245114
Both are fixed in the latest Beta build and are expected to be pushed into 28.6 GA build.

Stroked Clipping Masks get unclipped on file reopening
Using a clipping mask on photos works, but when I save the file, close it and reopen it, the photos are no longer clipped, but they're grouped with the mask/path instead. I then have to ungroup and reclip them every time I open it. It's happened several times. I should also note that I'm using a stroke color on the path/masks. There's one photo that isn't following the same behavior and it's working properly, but there's no discernible difference between it and the rest of the photos I'm using, whether it be size, mode or whatever.

Clipped images gets displayed on adjacent pages in exported PDFs in readers such as Microsoft Edge browsers
When I place multiple images in a clipping mask, whether it is exported as PDF or saved as PDF, or even if I use Acrobat to optimize the PDF, some PDF readers such as Microsoft Edge will show the image at the bottom of the clipping mask. It becomes a color block displayed on the PDF, but these extra color blocks will disappear after enlarging the PDF interface.

Exporting symbols containing Intertwine results wrong.
English *Use translation tool ----
Exporting symbols containing "Intertwine" does not give correct results.
As psd, pdf, and webp, the result is correct. But in other formats, they are exported as missing.
Same result with "Exports for screens", "Export as", "Save for Web (Legacy)" or any menu command.
"Asset Export" does not export even if the "Export" button is clicked.
Check with Illustrator 2023 and 2024
How to reproduce:
1. Create a symbol with artwork containing "Intertwine" and place an instance.

Illustrator pulls clippings masks to the top of their clip groups when a document is reopened
- Make a simple clipping group
- Select clipping path only
- Fill it
- Send it to back
- Save and close the file
- Open the file back Illustrator will move the clipping mask back to the top of the group.
Why this is important?
1. Because if we release a clipping group that has the filled clipping path below clipped object, it stays below.
2. Because when we use isolation mode, Illustrator will allow to select children only when the filled clipping mask is below the clipped objects.Take a look at the GIF attached, that shows three methods possible with colored clippings…

Undo stack becomes desynchronized when making a clipping mask using a group that contains another clipping mask
I often want to clip a group that already contains another clipping mask, and sometimes I accidentally use the wrong top object when making the mask. In this case, Undo does not return the scene to its previous state. Instead, various strange things happen.
To replicate:
- Create a group (A) that contains a clipping mask (B) and at least one other object
- Create an object (C) to be clipped
- Bring A over top of C, select both and make clipping mask
- UndoThe scene should return to its original state, but instead the inner mask (B)…

Info Palette incorrect on items using Clipping Mask
Objects with Clipping Masks show original width and height in Info Palette. Ex. a 10x10 square clipped to 2x2 will show as W: 10, H: 10 in Info.
In Properties/Transform the information is correct, i.e. W: 2, H: 2I typically don't like to see the whole Properties Panel nor need the editing abilities of Transform so I have the Info panel open. However, I would assume it would show the selected width and height vs. the clipped item's original size.

Hidden clipping mask still contributes to exported image
I had a design with two clippings mask applied to it, for layout and previewing purposes.
When time to export a final image comes, I hide the top-level smaller one, and leave the larger one at the bottom to clip my design. But when I review the exported image, I realize Illustrator removed the some elements of the design, despite me seeing them on canvas. It took a live brush and deleted some parts of it even!
Take a look at the file attached.
1. Open it
2. Study the layer structure, notice a hidden clipping mask. Note the design…3 votes -
Selecting all objects on layer via Layers panel not recognized by Intertwine
AI 27.5
Go to Layers panel
Click target button for Objects layer (to select all paths on that layer)
Choose Object > Intertwine... note that Make is gray
Instead, in Layers panel click to select first object and Shift + click to select last object. Object > Intertwine > Make is available1 voteDon't use the Target column to select all object in a layer, use the Selection column in Layers panel instead.
The longer discussion is in comments.

Clipping Mask Shows Some Bugs
Hi
I’m using Illustrator CC (27.1.1) and macOS Monterey 12.3
When I use a clipping mask, sometimes Illustrator shows hidden parts of images that are inside the clipping mask (that should be hidden). When I scroll through the artboards, bugs change shape. (Generally, images inside the clipping mask are effected by the transparency tool, screen, multiply...)
Looking at the attached files you can see a clipping mask with some shapes inside.2 votes -
