Font drop down menu disappears
Whenever I select the font drop down menu, and I'm going through the fonts I have, it just randomly disappears as I'm looking through the fonts to find the one I want to use, although I can still use my arrow keys to go through the list even though the drop down menu isn't on my screen.
We have the fix available in the latest release. Please update Illustrator using Adobe Creative Cloud application to the latest build for version Illustrator CC 22.1.
Please refer to our knowledge base FAQ – https://illustrator.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/1844590 if you face difficulty in update.

Yeah, the problem is already reported. Try to disable custom text's appearance for now.

In Illustrator 22.0.1 the font family selection panel disappears whenever I move my mouse and always reverts to the most recently used font. The only way I can change to a font I want is either typing it in or scrolling till the one I want is under my mouse and clicking.

Looks like an effect was still applied to my text (even if i've tried to remove it) The bug does not occurs with simple text. Still, fix this please

Wow, this is ridiculous! Unable to select fonts in illustrator... Bugs after Bugs... Seems like money doesn't fix everything

Anish and others.
I figured out that this bug happens much more often when I have Outline effect applied to it (I use it to disable hinting). It seems that AI recalculates effect, bring up progress window and this window takes away focus from Font Family field! I'm sure this bug also happen with more complex effects.
I'm also sure AICC2017 never does this.
And I also have AICC2018 sometimes still loose focus even with no appearance applied to text. I still don't know why, may be my mouse twitches and cursor goes off drop-down area? I try to keep cursor in the middle of it, when scrolling through fonts, but it still have these. And worse part — when it turns off, I still have initial font applied and not the last one previewed, and I have to search it again manually, because AI now show it in Recent Fonts and not actual position in list.

I'm having the same issue when trying to change/view each font on the drop down list. I am only able to scroll through a handful of fonts before the list disappears and I have to start again. It's very frustrating as it never used to happen. The only effect applied might be 'arc' or 'arch upper' while the text is adjusted to fit inside a banner. I used to be able to view a number of different fonts with nil issues scrolling through. If I remove the effect there are no issues, but I never had to remove (and then re-apply) the effect before, so why now? I need to minimise the number of steps when working in Ai, not add them.

I am having a similar issues where the drop down menu disappears when scrolling through the fonts. I also noticed that when I try to use my up/down arrow to choose a font, it get's "stuck" on a font and won't go past it. This is happening since I updated last week.

Very-very often, when I scroll through my font list in Character palette, trying to pick a right font, AI CC2018 decides to apply it (I press nothing, only scroll) and displays wrong name, wrong outlines, wrong everything. Sometimes it does OK and sometimes it does this with every font I get. When I try to undo change, it even doesn't see it and undoes previous change.
This also happens with both 'Missing glyph protection' on and off.New bug every day.
I open CC2017.
I will better work a bit slower, with Ctrl+A broken for single character, with Actions forgetting scripts, but without new bugs.I have no idea how to reproduce it, just work.
See animation, I got it recorded. -

My issues with arrow key navigation is that every time I go back to the font menu, it jumps to the font at the TOP, not what I last selected, therefor making it useless to navigate with the arrow keys.
I have to scroll all the way down to the font I was just at to continue.

The font menu closes after about a second of being open. I noticed that this only happens when I have Outline Object applied to my text. (It seems to work okay when it's not applied.)
But I ALWAYS use Outline Object on my text since it's so hard to grab and move text without it.
Please fix this. I'm going to have to go back to the previous version until then. -
Hi Anonymous,
Can you please let me know what all formatting is applied on the Russian text if you copy it directly to the Illustrator? you can check in appearance panel, or can share the snapshot of the same.
Thanks

Hi Spencer,
The temporary solution you found works for how long? Does the problem come back after after sometime or is it fully resolved?
Thanks

I do not have any additional effects or anything applied to the text, I did find a temporary solution, I just close the file/program and reopen it. So I believe my issue is just a glitch.

Dear Anish,
I have a similar issue with the drop down font menu disappearing.
The scenario in my case is like that:
I have some english text and I want to substitute it with a word written in Russian. I am pasting the text and then go on to select a Russian font. That's when the drop down menu disappears not letting me change the font.
I have noticed that if I first paste the Russian text in Text Edit and make it Plain Text (removing all formatting), the problem doesn't occur in Illustrator.
(the text in illustrator doesn't have any special effects, just a fill color)
I hope this helps a little.
Thank you.

Turns out, using the scroll wheel or scroll bar to navigate the font menu closes the menu prematurely as well. This is beyond aggravating.

If you have some text selected, you can click on the font menu (either in the Control Bar or the Character palette) and begin typing the name of a font. At this point, you should be able to navigate the list of fonts with the up and down arrow keys and hit Enter to commit. As of CC 2018, however, this does not work. Hitting the up/down arrow keys closes the font menu and reverts the font to what it was before.
