Tilde key to move a pattern within shape not working
My Tilde/Graves accent key is no longer working to transform a pattern within an object. Normally, I can rotate or move around a pattern when I hold it down without moving the object. It hasn't worked since my last update.

It works in all versions of Illustrator after CS5 (just checked), but it seems this particular key just works bad when we use non-English keyboard layouts — but again, only for some users.
Do you try this using Korean? -

1. When creating an object
If you press the [ ` ] key and create an object, many objects will be created over time.2. When adjusting the pattern
Press the [ ` ] key on the object to which the pattern is applied.
Only the pattern is adjusted when using the move tool, rotation tool, or size tool.
But this feature is missing in newer versions, available in CS5 -

Good plan Patricia! I tried all the below tips too, but nothing's worked so far.
English language, UK input (have also tried US), AI v28.0, Windows 11 Pro 22H2 v22621.2506.

Oh, gosh. I thought Adobe had finally fixed it all. Tim, it would useful if you mentioned what OS you use, its language and your input language as well.

Still broken here and it's a massive part of my workflow.

It is working now. It's been a couple of weeks that I noticed it has been fixed.

+1! Upgraded to the latest version 28.0 and boom, suddenly tilde move stops working. One of the absolute critical shortcuts for me since I need to constantly align patterns. Crazy that this has been an issue since 2020 and still not fixed?

Tilde key was working yesterday to move patterns within an object, but today is a no-go. I have updated, uninstalled, and reinstalled. I'm on a Mac desktop in the US. When I asked my coworkers for advice, it turns out most of them have gone through this, but none had any advice. It fixed itself spontaneously, independent of any efforts on their parts. I would rather not have to wait for that magic day if I can help it. Any new advice?

I had to change my unit preferences to pixels, and then change the keyboard increments to something like .1 pixels, and then the tilde key worked. It's kind of a hassle to have to change my preferences to get the tilde key to work, but at least I got it to work.

I don't know why, but once again Adobe sent me an email asking me to come here to vote. And here I am reinforcing that this issue is critical.
I will also repeat that the workaround Adobe has suggest isn't suitable, nor is the use of an English keyboard (or English input) .
Please solve this bug first, then contact me again.

I am Brazilian, and my keyboard is also Brazilian, thus the key before number 1 IS NOT the tilde, but the DOUBLE QUOTES/SINGLE QUOTE. When my keyboard input is configured to PT, I can use this key to create multiple objects while holding it down (the so-called tilde trick, as I have found on the internet), but I CANNOT move a pattern inside an object. If I change the input language to English, I can do both actions.
As you can see, the problem does not have to do with the (physical) keyboard itself, but with the language input. When it is set to English, I can use the key before number 1 either to create multiple objects by creating one while holding it down or move a pattern inside an object, by selecting the object, holding down the key and using the mouse or the arrow keys. When my input language is set to Portuguese (which is the language I actually use daily), I can only perform the fist action mentioned (create multiple objects), but not the move pattern action.
I have reported it twice to Adobe. The first time was last year. By that time, someone called me and accessed my computer remotely, but then nothing else was done. Adobe closed my case without solving it. It was no surprise as I have found the same problem reported in 3 or 4 different pages, as this one here, with not a line from Adobe. Last week I contacted them once more. Again, someone called me, accessed my computer remotely, checked everything, told me that he would call again on the following day - which did not happen - and now Adobe sent me an email with an workaround (object > Transform...) which does not give me the precision I need when moving a pattern (I want to move and see it moving at the same time, not enter any given amount to see the effect later). The email also suggests that I change my keyboard to English, which IS NOT an option, as I am Brazilian, I live in Brazil, my keyboard is Brazilian and I write mostly in Portuguese. Adobe also asked me to come here and vote, and so I did.
I do hope that now Adobe finally decides to fix this bug. It is time Adobe do something. There are people waiting for this for over 2 years and a half.

In my 26.5 tilde doesn't work at all. Neither move, nor scale, nor rotate.

Rotating and moving the pattern works with the tilde key, but scaling does not work. A bug?

Hi Adobe folks,
I used tilde with the white arrow with the + (GroupSelectionTool) and it worked for moving the pattern inside the object.
To rotate the pattern inside the object used tilde and the Rotation Tool.Hope that helps

Going back and forth between the preferences pane or the scale dialog just to do something so simple is nuts. Please fix!
