Can't finish previewing. Could not complete the requested operation.
I applied a pattern to a stroke by accident and received this error. I'm using v25.0.1 on a PC with 16 gb RAM and a dedicated graphics card.

Entire team is about to roll back to old version, because this issue... It sucks

It's absolutely unusable, I had to come back to the previous version. It's too bad because some new features are very nice.

Been experiencing similar issues...Can't finish Preview and its a simple file that i am working on, nothing major. These programs need to be tested PROPERLY before releasing new updates to clients that PAY for this software...very frustrating.

Same here. It keeps crashing even on a very simple artwork.
Just rolled back to 22.1. -

Illustrator keeps crashing with simple things and photoshop too.
Animated zoom (GPU Preview) keeps on failing. -

Same problem. It takes a little bit longer but happens in the middle of work, have to save and restart. Annoying when I have a print deadline.

Twice v23.0 crashed when selecting layers, alert window approx says "Cannot perform preview" then my artboard disappears. I save to be safe, quit, then re-open same file. Artboard with sketch is visible but in CPU Preview. I never selected Preview on CPU or hotkey.

As far as I can tell, yes. Rolling back to 2018 is the solution to this mess for the time being.

If i uninstall the 2019 version to work in the 2018 version. Did my illustrator document will on open ( file saved in 2019 -- open in 2018 ?? )

Brad Kelley commented
I had enough and rolled back. Was able to open files saved with 2019. Whew.

I've reverted to 2018, but now any file I've worked on with Illustrator 2019 is broken... grouping is all FUBAR and issues galore. DO NOT UPGRADE TO ILLUSTRATOR 2019 UNTIL THIS IS FIXED. And if you did like I did, I'd like you to attempt cursing louder than I am right now. This is a total fail Adobe.

This little beauty of an issue makes Illustrator CC 2019 dysfunctional on my Mac.

I'm running Mojave and the problem is happening here also. Started immediately after the upgrade. I've saved a number of files in cc 2019 format that I assume I can't open in 2018?
