Can't finish previewing. Could not complete the requested operation.
I applied a pattern to a stroke by accident and received this error. I'm using v25.0.1 on a PC with 16 gb RAM and a dedicated graphics card.

I just updated to the 2019 Illustrator and while I'm in the middle of a project I get a "can't finish preview" dialogue box that pops up and I can't continue my work. I have to shut down and open it all over again to get it to work.

Congrats for the new update!
Here the bugs I've found:
- Sample text (that now shows your actual text, which is a great feature), but it just don't works every time, sometimes it gets slow to show your actual text other it appears the classic "sample"... This feature is quite useful, please check this!
- From time to time (like 2-4 times a day) illustrator crashes and make a force quit.
- Sometimes it says "not enough memory" and crashes (I have a 3.500€ iMac)
- New gradient tool is awesome, but when you pick the color on the point you just created, that point blinks... Is not big deal, just to let you know.
- I had one problem with the first window (where you search vastest project and paper sizes). It just went crazy a couple of times (super zoom so you couldn't do anything, very very very small window on left top corner so impossible to do something, etc)
I used to leave open Photoshop, Safari, Slack, Upwork Chat, and Spotify.
My iMac:
2017 - Retina 5K 27"
4,2Ghz Intel i7
8GB 2400Mhz DDR4
Radeon Pro 575 4MB
Mojave.Thanks a mill!

Running on a 2018 Macbook Pro with High Sierra and 16 gb of ram.
Able to save, but then must restart Ai to make it work properly. -

Ashutosh, as requested, I spent some time operating Illustrator with my WiFi / Internet turned off, and the error still occurred. I think it took about 30 minutes to occur. It's difficult to predict.

Still having the same issue "Can't finish previewing" message, and for me, it's followed by a hard crash.
I thought that allocating more Scratch Disk to Secondary would help, and it seemed to get me through one whole day without incident until I ran into the issue again this AM. -

Dear Adobe Team!
Is there a running log that I could export to you guys? I went through all adobe related logs in the Mac Console and can't seem to find the crash log.
I think it might be because the Illustrator doesn't crash par se, it just breaks down to the outline view and is unable to go back to full preview. At least that's the case with me. After relaunch and reopening of the file, all looks fine.

the internet disconnection test request got me thinking... is it possible there is an issue with the app re: network connectivity (i.e accessing a file across a network), vs. working on the same file locally (copying to desktop, and opening/editing there etc.).

I'm getting the same 'Can't finish previewing' error randomly - seems to be happening when I have a tiff or jpeg image within the artwork?
Also, after while I get a weird flashing white border around my rulers which will only go if I quit re-open Illustrator.

Just want to note that working with Illustrator CC2019 connected to internet does NOT made the bug to appear instantly for me, ever: sometimes it appeared just after a few operations, yes (say, 3-5 minutes after opening Ai) and other times it appeared after 20-30 minutes…
This morning, doing the test without internet connection, Illustrator was fine for over 30-35 minutes… but then: boom! the “Can't finish previewing” message + crash come here…
(BTW crash report saved while Illustrator was used WITHOUT net connection has been sent to sharewithai@adobe.com)
