Can't finish previewing. Could not complete the requested operation.
I applied a pattern to a stroke by accident and received this error. I'm using v25.0.1 on a PC with 16 gb RAM and a dedicated graphics card.

Ashutosh, as requested, I spent some time operating Illustrator with my WiFi / Internet turned off, and the error still occurred. I think it took about 30 minutes to occur. It's difficult to predict.

Still having the same issue "Can't finish previewing" message, and for me, it's followed by a hard crash.
I thought that allocating more Scratch Disk to Secondary would help, and it seemed to get me through one whole day without incident until I ran into the issue again this AM. -

Dear Adobe Team!
Is there a running log that I could export to you guys? I went through all adobe related logs in the Mac Console and can't seem to find the crash log.
I think it might be because the Illustrator doesn't crash par se, it just breaks down to the outline view and is unable to go back to full preview. At least that's the case with me. After relaunch and reopening of the file, all looks fine.

the internet disconnection test request got me thinking... is it possible there is an issue with the app re: network connectivity (i.e accessing a file across a network), vs. working on the same file locally (copying to desktop, and opening/editing there etc.).

When opening Illustrator file ”The operation cannot complete because there isn't enough memory (RAM) available.” dialog box appears.
I have 32 Gt RAM in my Mac Pro. How much more I'll have to acquire? -

I'm getting the same 'Can't finish previewing' error randomly - seems to be happening when I have a tiff or jpeg image within the artwork?
Also, after while I get a weird flashing white border around my rulers which will only go if I quit re-open Illustrator.

Just want to note that working with Illustrator CC2019 connected to internet does NOT made the bug to appear instantly for me, ever: sometimes it appeared just after a few operations, yes (say, 3-5 minutes after opening Ai) and other times it appeared after 20-30 minutes…
This morning, doing the test without internet connection, Illustrator was fine for over 30-35 minutes… but then: boom! the “Can't finish previewing” message + crash come here…
(BTW crash report saved while Illustrator was used WITHOUT net connection has been sent to sharewithai@adobe.com)

I performed the test that Ashutosh suggested, and anecdotally it does seem to have some effect – after half an hour or so it was still OK – certainly not happening instantly like it was before.

Following a suggestion made by Mr. Ashutosh Chaturvedi I made a test running Illustrator while completely disabling Internet Connection (disabling wifi and pulling off network cable), and nope: the bug appears.
I have been working for 30 minutes and then, again, received the “Can’t finish previewing” and an Illustrator crash 1 minute later… :-(
This is the email I received from Mr. Chaturvedi:

Hi,
We need some help in validating a hypothesis. Can you run this small test and report back results in comments.
1. Quit AI version 23 if already running
2. Disable internet (e.g. disconnect from wifi or pull the network cable)
3. Relaunch Illustrator and work as you would normally do.
does the error and crash go away after the three steps?
Please report back your results in the comments and get back back on internet. Your comments help us get to the actual fix faster.
Warm Regards,
Ashutosh Chaturvedi | Sr. Quality Engineering Manager – Illustrator

I'm running an iMac Pro 10 core with 64gb of ram - and I am crashing for simply trying to move a jpg or size it?
In another thread the STAFF person said we have to vote on fixing this? Really. The application is pretty much unusable.
Forget "voting" Fix your stuff adobe!
