Type on Path Characters vanish and appear scattered / exploded on far edges of canvas (when zoomed out) if outlined / expanded
Started in in version 27.7.0
Reproduction procedures:
1. Create type on a path in document.
2. Save the document and close it once.
3. Open that document and select the text on a path.
4. Execute command “Outline Text”
The above procedure will make it all disappear and disappear.
This phenomenon is not reproduced in Illustrator 2022 or earlier, so it seems to be a 2023-specific bug.

The issue is believed to be fixed in the latest Beta build and is expected to be pushed into the Global Availability build at the end of July.
To ensure this indeed fixes the problem, please install the latest Beta build from CCD app and try to reproduce it, following the steps provided by Ton in a comment within the report.
Please reply back if Beta works for you or not.

I have not been able to replicate the issue while using the most recent Beta version

Further investigation seems to suggest this is a bug in files that were created in earlier versions of Illustrator. When opening one of these files, any text on a curve appears to disappear. Clicking on the path with the type-on-a-path tool brings the text back, and it can outlined normally at this point.

I'm adding here that text on a curve will disappear just upon being selected. The way to get it back is to click on the curve with the text-on-a-curve tool. That brings the disappeared text back. However, it will need to be expanded before being outlined to prevent it from disappearing during the outlining task.

Illustrator 27.7Just discovered that all text on a curve disappears when outlined. This has caused a massive pileup in the production department of my company. It's a spectacular failure on Adobe's part, but not surprising as Illustrator has been going downhill for years now.
The work around is that text on a curve needs to be expanded before being outlined. Thanks Adobe for adding a ton of more work to my plate.

I am having the same issue with text on a path, but I need it to stay editable not outlined. It's fine until I close out of the document and reopen again, then is explode all over the screen letter by letter. See all the tiny dots in this screenshot - they are letters.

I was unable to attach the file to my intial report. The system wouldn't let me post with it attached.

Illustrator v27.7File originally created last Friday, 07/21/23
Opening the file creates the problem every time. Once opened and addressed the issue stays dormant until re-opening the file.
Upon opening and clicking all text that is "Text-on-a-path" jumbles up or disappears. Undo does not fix the issue. When text is clicked on I get a pop-up window telling me that the text was created in a "different version" of Illustrator. Illustrator has not been updated since I created the file on Friday.Exact text of the pop-up:
"This text was created in a different version of Illustrator. Editing the text may cause some changes to your text layout. Basic formatting will not be affected. Do you want to continue?"I expect this to not happen, and it happens anyways.
While it is easy to fix, it's a temporary fix that takes time out of my day to do.

Note: When I "Alt + X" and "Alt + F" on the same artboard, the visual bug seemed to disappear. And it seems like its tied to the artwork I've made for some reason.

Seems like a visual bug, but when I exported the artboard to png, it still appears.

Out of the blue, these random letters just appears in and outside of my artboard, which I have no clue why and how. It is not seen/selectable in any of the layers nor is it a locked layer.

Yes, type-on-path got broken recently (https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/46897540) in the latest release, and this problem might be relevant and have the same cause.
Please check if you have the same problem.
The team is aware of it and is going to fix it soon. -

After designing and saving the Illustrator file, everything seems normal.
Once I reopen the Illustrator file, then the text that has been placed on a curve (Type on a Path) disappears.
I have to either cut the entire path with text and then paste in place for it to work or select the curve that has the "invisible" text and reselect the font.
This has happened in different working files of mine.

Eli, yeah, it’s a known problem, and the team is going to fix it.
Thanks for the report. The workaround for now is to downgrade or to nudge the type on path sideways and back before outlining. -

Was working in illustrator to make some logo and t-shirt ideas, and the program just started spreading letters and words from the logo lock ups I was creating all over the place

A workaround while this is not fixed is to select the text on path object, move it with arrow key, outline the text and then move it back to the right position.

This is not reproduced in v27.6.1 or v27.5, so it seems to be a bug specific to v27.7.

There was a small error in my verification.
I correct it below.
The text appears to have disappeared, but has been moved far away from the artboard, outside the canvas.私の検証に小さな誤りがありました。
以下に訂正します。
テキストは消えてなくなったかに見えるが、アートボードの遥か遠く、カンバス外に移動されてしまっている。 -
ajabon grinsmith commented
Add verification.
After step 3, I get an alert when I try to edit text on the path with the character tool. "This text was created in another version of ....."
After translating that object slightly, etc., the disappearance does not occur.検証の追加
手順3のあと、パス上のテキストを文字ツールで編集しようとするとアラートが出る。「このテキストは別のバージョンで作られたものです....」
そのオブジェクトを少し平行移動するなどしたあとは消滅は発生しない。 -

Egor Chistyakov It is all text. in any colour. I am using the latest CC update, (27.7) there aren't any more updates.
-
Merliah, does this apply only to text on path, or do the plain point type text vanish as well?
Does it happen only for white texts or for other colors as well?
Can you please share a test file that behaves like this, so the team can check it?
Also — which Ai version are you using?
