1. Objects sliding when switching between outline and preview

   Most of the times I'm working with quite simple graphics (preparing already existing logos and graphics for printing).

   Sometimes when switching from preview to outline view, and back, I notice that some objects aren't where they are supposed to be. In outline view they are at their supposed position, but in preview they are somewhere else. It isn't a big problem when I notice it happening - the problem is when I don't and print it like that. When I notice it, moving the object, pressing unite, or several other actions will make the object pop back to their right place (like in outline view).

   Interestingly the graphics will be printed at the position where its located in preview view, and not in outline view, where it is supposed to be.

   I'm not sure whether I'm making any sense. Tried looking for it happening to others, but didn't find anything similar. It's been happening to me in bot Adobe illustrator 2019 and 2020 as well in the past 6 years. It doesn't occur daily, but quite often to be really annoying.

   I've attached 2 screenshots depicting the issue. If I had printed the graphics like that, the output would have been the one in the preview and not the outline view.

2. eyedropper does not pick brushes

3. Object Selection by Path Only broken with symbols

   In Preferences, under Selection and Anchor Display, check Object Selection by Path Only.

   Create or open a document.

   Drag a symbol out of the Symbol panel. Choose one with a large filled area.

   Zoom in on the symbol.

   With either of the 3 selection tools, drag over a filled part of the symbol. Do not drag over any paths.

   It doesn't matter whether you're viewing in Outline or Preview.

   The symbol becomes selected.

   It should not become selected due to the prefs option noted above.
   It worked correctly in v22 & CS6 etc. It's been close to a year with this problem.

5. Simplify Path Creates New Shape on a New Layer on Each Adjustment

   Hi! I was trying to use the Simplify Path tool in the latest Illustrator 2019 (23.0.6) and I am getting this weird error. If I have the preview mode selected, each time I make an adjustment in the dialog box a new layer is created. By default, it selects that new shape to update the path without a clear way to go back unless you go to the original layer and begin again in which the whole process starts over. If this is supposed to be an improvement in the feature I'm not quite sure how? Please let me know if this is an error or how to turn off this feature.

   I am attaching a photo to show you what I mean.

6. Workspace basics are not appearing and I can't reset workspace

   Basically the title I can only use stuff I have remembered by hotkeys and the option to reset isn't available, I am even unable to change the layout I use entirely, I am new to illustrator and this is very frustrating.

7. randomly shutting off and not saving

   so im in a digital arts class at my school so i dont know much about the computers, i am was working on a project and i was just about finished with my outline after 1 hour 32 minutes of work and the Illustrator just shuts off randomly and i go to open the app back up again and it didn't save. This better get fixed, and if it doesn't me and my teacher aggreed we will go to something else if we have to.

8. Expanding compound path causes a shift in the object shape

   If I call Expand on a compound path, there is a shift in the width and height of the object. This seems to only be a problem when the stroke is in the center. If the stroke is inside or outside, there isn't a problem.

   Illustrator can display width and height values respecting the width of strokes and effects, if you enable Use Preview Bounds option in Preferences > General. It also makes bounding box larger to fit them visually, hence the change in dimensions.
   When it’s off, only geometric shape is taken into account, ignoring stroke width or effects.
   When you expand the shape, the stroke is not a stroke anymore, but a filled path, that makes the overall group geometrically larger.

9. Can't reset bounding box on certain shapes

   "Reset bounding box" is greyed out on objects that has been created with these tools: Line tool, Rectangle tool, Ellipse tool, Polygon tool, Rounded rectangle tool

   It seems to work with all other objects.

   I'm using 23.0.6.

   Not a bug, but is an intended behavior, as far as I’m aware. Any live shape (when selected alone) doesn’t allow to alter the rotation of its bounding box, because it follows the live shape. 'Resetting' the box would mean the shape gets distorted with any new change. If this is your intention, you can convert a live shape into a simple path with Object > Shape > Expand Shape command (or Pathfinder > Add).

10. Buggy strokes, unwanted anti-aliasing and wrong sizes on export.

    I have just completed a project where 1800 tool icons had to be redesigned for a CAD program. Exporting my icons to single and @2x PNGs butchers my icons.

    • If strokes are set to outside, export to PNG invariably produces unwanted anti-aliasing on vertically or horizontally stacked pixels. (see image 1.png). I have a hunch this only occurs with documents that have over 100 artboards. It cannot be easily reproduced with a document containing only a single artboard. (if someone from tech support wants the document, let me know. I cannot share it publicly.)

    • When the arrow up cursor is used with a modifier key (cmd) in a number field of the transform palette, it should never increase both values if they are not locked to each other. This used to work but has been broken for at least two years now. (See ArrowUp.gif)

    • Artboards move around. I am not sure this is not me. However when I export my icons, I often have artboards on top of other artboards or some artboards have even moved hundreds of pixels away. This may be due to the way that artboards are selected though. Using shift to select several artboards does not quite work like selecting objects. There is always one artboard selected and every time the user wants to select multiple artboards via the marquee selection, one artboard somewhere in the drawing is already selected and must first be deselected by clicking into empty space. This feels non-standard.

11. Enormous issues with Illustrator 2019, OS High Sierra

    Illustrator 2019 is acting very strangely. If I undo once, it goes back several steps and I cannot bring back those steps. It removes layers and artwork without any actions. When I save, it removes several actions every time.

    If I quit the program completely and restart, it acts normally for a few steps and then starts the whole disappearing act again. I have re-installed the program a few times recently but the same thing keeps happening. It's extremely time-consuming and frustrating!

13. How about not releasing Illustrator chock full of bugs?

    I'd like to choose a category, but it's multiple at this point. The main ones...

    • Bounding box randomly disappears. I turn it on. It randomly turns off.
    • I select text and go to change factors and the changes affect other text that's not even selected.
    • Photoshop completely changed the sizing to no longer require shift to preserve aspect ratio, which is unnecessary and fixing the things not broken, but if you're gonna do it in one app, do it in all. Kinda ridiculous to jump between programs and not have same functionality.
    • If I go from dual monitors to single, canvas windows are somewhere off screen. This is on Photoshop too, and is eternally frustrating.

    Illustrator is definitely the most buggy of all the Adobe software, and the bugs are just random, so no way to ensure I can reproduce, but always have to restart to get back to normal functionality. Lasts for about 20 minutes. This last version is buggier than the last, which begs to wonder who's testing and fixing bugs in the first place?

14. Pattern Editing Mode Swatch Width and Height max out at 4000px

    Pattern Editing mode lets the user create swatch tiles over 4000px, but does not give you the size of the tile over 4000px. I noticed this first with rectangular pattern that was forcing my computer to crash on edit. I confirmed this behavior by opening a new file creating a 60 in by 60 in square. Pattern was created fine, but the width and height of the swatch still maxed out at 4000px. AI 2018 22.1

18. Uninstalling old version breaks windows preview handler for new version.

    When uninstalling an older version of illustrator, the windows preview handler for AI files gets removed such that it no longer functions for newer versions of illustrator that are already installed. The only resolution is to uninstall the newer version and reinstall which can be a pain, or manually modify the registry entries to assign the PDF handler to AI files.
