Text Boxes won't Scale or Flip
IllustratorCC 22.0.1 running under OSX 10.12.6
Select text box and either attempt to flip (Reflect tool using vertical axis) or scale using the Scale tool. Scale fails both dragging to scale, or double-clicking the Scale tool and inputting numeric scale value.
Text box scales or flips horizontal, as in all previous versions of AI.
Error message reading: "Can't scale the objects. The requested transformation would make some objects too large."

Viewport doesn’t get adjusted when I start editing text outside of it, like it used to do
Previously (like is shown in one of 2 GIFs attached, recorded in CS4), when I had my insertion point outside of the currently visible viewport, making any change into a text (or even pressing an arrow key to navigate it) would have the viewport adjusted to have the cursor in it.
Now it just won’t happen.
When we aren’t careful with noticing the current mod (text editing VS normal one) can hit hotkeys, hoping to switch the tool, and actually type some garbage (like it’s shown in the second GIF).Make it pan to the cursor, like it used to…

Moving several points of an area type or type on path causes "undo"
I am no longer able to move multiple anchor points for text on a path in v30 (GPU mode).
I'm using a Studio M2 Max with MacOS 15.5..The attached video demonstrates this behavior. I have two duplicate paths. While using "View using GPU" I try to edit multiple nodes on the text path. What happens is:
- the preview of the path disappears while I'm trying to move the nodes.
- the entire line moves, even though I've only selected a few nodes.
- my type was replaced with the "Lorem Ipsum" text (this happens intermittently, not every time).
But, when I…

Releasing Shift when resizing an area type with Alt+Shift (but still holding Alt) makes the text jump
Take a look at the GIF attached.
Here are the steps:
1. Create an area type, enable bounding box, click and drag a corner marker with Selection tool
2. Hold Alt + Shift to proportionally resize the area from its center
3. Change your mind!
4. Release Shift while still holding Alt and the mouse key — while still moving the cursorSome splitting happens — the frame of the bounding box follows the cursor, but the rendered frame with the text stays in the previous registered location.
The faster you move the mouse — the larger is the gap.…

Baseline Shift units change to points when Language Options gets changed to East Asian
For some reason Ai believes my Baseline Shift units MUST be in points when I choose to use East Asian Language Options, like the GIF shows.

Upon reopening Ai files, it shows that fonts are missing when they aren't
To fix the "error" I have to navigate to Adobe fonts, uninstall each font one by one, as uninstalling a font family all at once doesn't fix the issue, then individually reinstall each font. Super tedious and taxing to workflow. Issue is across multiple files, all that I have created on the same device that presents the "missing font" dialogue so I know it isn't a file issue. Please fix.

HEX Franklin Variable Font is Not Visible when Editing
I am on a Mac running Illustrator 29.4. I am trying to use the variable OTF version of HEX Franklin, and all Adobe apps do not render the letterforms. When I try to select the variable font in the dropdown, it just defaults back to Myriad or the default typeface.
Other variable fonts work as intended, but specifically, this one is broken. Any possible fix?

Please comment back if it’s not for you.

Bullets/Numbering indents don't scale with type objects
The Indent/First line indent values set in bullets and numbering options don't scale with type objects.
Normal paragraph indents do scale as expected, so I think this is an oversight or bug.
Examples:
1. Area type with text at 12pt, numbering options have an 18pt left indent and -18pt first line indent.
2. Same object scaled 150% -- type is now 18pt, indents have not changed, meaning left indents for double figures have been forced to the next tab.
3. Paragraph without bullets/numbers, 12pt, left indent 18pt, first line indent -18pt.
4. Same object scaled 150%, type is now 18pt,…-

Opacity for list objects (bulleted or numbered) lost after closing a file
When you reduce the opacity of a text object that contains a list - either just a list or a list plus "normal" text, that opacity gets deleted once you have saved the file. It's not even saved into the PDF part of the file.
If you apply the opacity at the Character level or if you create an additional fill for the text object and then apply reduced opacity, it works.Version 28.3
MacOS Monterey 12.7.1Please see also: https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/bulleted-and-numbered-text-opacity-bug/m-p/14512837#M402363

Thin space and hair space have wrong widths, compared to InDesign
In Indesign a hair space is a twenty fourth of an em-dash independent of the font size.
In Illustrator a hair space depends on the font size.
6pt font -> hair space is a sixth of em-dash
10pt font -> hair space is a tenth of em-dash
20pt font -> hair space is a twentieth of em-dash
40pt font -> hair space is a fortieth of em-dash
in other words: a hair space in Illustrator is always 1ptIn Indesign a thin space is an eighth of an em-dash.
In Illustrator a thin space is a fifth of an em-dash.…

Variable Fonts with a Width axis don’t work in Illustrator unless the "space" glyph changes width
Operating system:
macOS Sonoma 14.1.1 (23B81)The version of Adobe Illustrator (desktop):
Adobe Illustrator 2024 (28.2)The steps you were taking when you experienced the issues:
I created a variable font with a width axis. The font works well in environments like web browsers, but the variable axis slider has no effect in Illustrator. This also affects variable fonts with a Width axis and other axes – none of the shaping changes of any axes are rendered in Illustrator. After some debugging and experimentation, I finally learned that the "space" glyph must change in its character width, and only then…

SVG import: font-weight and font-style not always applied to tspan elements
font-weight and font-style not always applied to tspan elements
Use the following steps to reproduce the issue:
1. download attached AIbugreport.txt file
2. replace .txt with.svg (unable to load an SVG file)
3. import the file to Adobe Illustrator
4. open this file in Google Chrome (or any other browser) to visually see the differenceActuall result: Google Chrome: "quick" is bold; "over" is italic. Adobe Illustrator: Styles are not applied to these words.
Expected result: Google Chrome: "quick" is bold; "over" is italic. Adobe Illustrator: "quick" is bold; "over" is italic

URGENT: Enter key does not work in any Type Tools Illustrator Beta 26.6.555
Adobe Tech Support was unable to resolve.
This was not a problem in the prior release of 26.6 before .555
When using the type tool in any form, horizontal, vertical, etc., the enter key no longer inserts either a [CR] or [CR LF].
This is inconvenient for working with headlines or titling (attached graphic), but an absolute dealbreaker for working with long text.

ÿ (ydieresis) Uppercase and lowercase are inverted
Hello,
the character ÿ (y with a dieresis) has an issue in Illustrator (I have the french version) when I change the case using the Font menu, it does the opposite. Turning Ÿ to Capital will change it to lowercase, turning Ÿ to lowercase won't change it (the .mov video is more clear)
regards,

4 votes -
Optical kerning changes when opening AI file in Illustrator 2021
Opened an AI file created April 2021 (using Optical kerning) to make changes. Kerning looks ok when I first open the file, but when I click on the text, the kerning changes significantly.
The font used is Georgia. Mac OS 10.15.7. Illustrator 2021 25.3.1. I had to open the file in Illustrator 2020 and copy the kerning values between the letters. I then opened the file in Illustrator 2021, changed from Optical to Metric and entered the kerning values from the Illustrator 2020 file.4 votes -
Textframe bugs out, and won't change color. Had to make new text boxes
Found a bug where a specific text box will NOT ovewrite the color of the text. I tried deleting paragraph styles, making new paragraph styles with different color, character styles and eyedropper tool. I can change weight, italics etc but the color would NOT change, despite the changes appearing in the appearance panels and other areas. Fixed by making new text boxes and moving the copy to those, but an annoying bug for sure.

Incorrect display of Bangla (Bengali) sequence র্য
This sequence, which is described in detail in the Unicode Standard, involves a zero-width joiner character that should force display of the final form of the last letter. This works correctly in InDesign and Photoshop, but not in Illustrator. Please see https://twitter.com/TiroTypeworks/status/1354160819865493505?s=20 for more details.
