  1. Character styles do not allow for optical alignments and kerning

    Paragraph style applied to text area does not allow for optical margin alignment.

    Not sure why this is happening but one paragraph style will let me kern punctuation outside of the box, and then another one will not. Instead, the character styles flicker around as I kern and will not change.

    Converting the paragraph style to another one fixes this issue - but reappears when I apply the intended style.

    Mac OSX Catalina.

  2. "Show Hidden Characters" is disabled every time "Export for Screens" is used

    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Open / create a document with any text
    2. On the application menu enable Type -> Show Hidden Characters
    3. Next do File -> Export -> Export for Screens
    4. Export a file or cancel out, both trigger the issue
    5. Notice the Hidden Characters are no longer visible
    6. Confirm on the application menu that the feature is disabled

    Happens on Illustrator 24.0.1 (64 bits), on Windows 10.

  3. Text box can no longer be colored

    Mac, v10.14.6
    Illustrator 24.0.1

    When I select a text box, I can no longer assign a color to the box, only to the copy inside the box.

  5. System font Helvetica Regular is not listed

    I have CC2018.1 & CC2019.1 & 2020 installed on my macOS Catalina.
    CC2018.1 can list Helvetica Regular but CC2019.1/2020 does not.
    The font is installed by system here /System/Library/Fonts/Helvetica.ttc, and only one copy is installed.
    Delete Prefs does not help.

  6. Big problem with 'Horizontal Align Center' bug fix

    Windows 7 64bit professional service pack 1,
    Illustrator CC 23.0.6.

    The recent fix for "The 'Horizontal Align Center' option does not align text with the center of object if text has tracking applied on it" in version 23.1 is causing all of our files, tens of thousands of documents, to display incorrectly when you open them, shifting text automatically. We need to be able to turn off this "fix" in settings or something please. We produce scale rules and navigational equipment etc. and almost every one of our files is incorrect if we upgrade to 23.1!   7. text expands inaccurately

    Mac OS 10.13.6 AI 23.1.1
    See att screenshot. I converted this type to outlines, then Expanded Appearance, then Expanded stroke and fill. Results are superimposed over the original red/orange type. You can that the converted outline does not match the type; in general the top is pushed rightward and the bottom leftward. I tried skewing the outline to correct it but while that may nudge some curves and vertices back to where they belong, it pushes others out. The only solution I know is to tweak and/or redraw the path, which is an extremely time-consuming task. It appears that this…

  8. Fonts not updating on the fly

    Copied from my forum inquiry that I eventually solved on my own...

    I am a type designers & I use illustrator in building & testing fonts as part of my production workflow. I use the same array of font apps along with my cc2019 suite on 2 different machines. One is a mac mini one is an imac, both are on the latest mac os.

    On the mac mini, with Illustrator open I can see changes to a font immediately reflected in the document. In other words if I replace a .otf or .ttf font file installed at mac hd/library/fonts…

  9. v23.1.1: Text with the "Outline Object" effect and Preview Bounds enabled has shifted to the right when opening an existing file

    We have existing AI files with text, which has the following characteristics:
    - Text has the Outline Object effect enabled;
    - Illustrator preferences "Preview Bounds" is checked;
    - Paragraph is "centred"

    When we open these AI files we find that the text has been shifted to the right a little bit.

    This has occurred on both the Windows 10 and Mac OS Mojave operating systems. To fix the issue we downgraded to Illustrator 23.0.6

  10. Tracking plus center/right justify broken

    macOS 12.13, Illustrator 2019 v23.1.1

    The v23.1 update broke center/right justify on point type when tracking is applied. When tracking is applied, and type is center or right justified, the alignment uses the tracking after the last character to determine the center or right alignment point, then the type is not visually aligned correctly.

    To reproduce in v23.1.1:

    Create a point type object, type XX for the text.

    Center justify the type. The type will correctly be centered exactly between the 2 X's.

  12. Weird Font punctuation behavior?

    Version: 23.0.6
    OS: 10.14.6

    I'm experiencing weird font behavior with the Merriweather typeface in Illustrator. It only happens for this typeface and only in Illustrator.

    When I try to type ' ," ' (comma + end quote), the spacing inexplicably condenses. When I switch fonts, the spacing goes back to normal. I don't have any special character or glyph settings to my knowledge.

    I tried the same type combo in other tools (Photoshop, XD, Sketch), and it works fine and looks normal. This only happens in Illustrator. Any ideas?

  14. Text becomes impossible to edit after several minutes of having the program open

    Working on macOS Mojave 10.14.5 and Illustrator 23.0.4.

    After working in the program for a few minutes, transform controls no longer appear around text boxes when selected (show transform controls does not fix the issue). Text attributes are then buggy when applied (tracking will not apply to selected word, can't change font). Shortly after, I can no longer select text boxes at all.

    I'm a graphic designer and this issue is hurting my productivity greatly. Please provide a solution!

  15. The typing I-beam pointer is missing sometimes.

    The cursor is missing on my student's PC even though they have installed the latest version of Illustrator CC. What is happening?

  16. Weird font rendering problem

    I have a client-provided font (IND-Hoboken Sans) that is rendering W (capital w) strangely. The apex should be square/flat, but Adobe apps (I used Illustrator as my test, but I've seen the same problem in Photoshop as well) render the 1st & 3rd apex on an angle (even more bizarrely, different angles). Other applications (Font Book, TextEdit, MS Word, Keynote) render the character square as expected.

    Most bizarrely, Acrobat does NOT have this problem & renders the character as the system does (ie. as expected). As a test, I created an Illustrator file with the same word as both live…

  17. Type tool broken - insists on being anything but normal type

    Unable to select the regular type tool. I get type on a path. This is a deal breaking flaw.

  18. Characters in Type on a Path appear rotated

    When trying to type on a path around a circle, the preview shows the letters rotating abnormally, but when converting the text to outlines or printing the type, it corrects itself. Would be fine, but I can't design what I need without the preview first.

  19. Cant see entire font list in gyphs tab?

    When I open a New Document and want to view glyphs font list with Entire Fonts selected the lower drop-down doesn't change?! The only way I can get it working is by selecting one of the Adobe templates then go to Gylphs tab and then the font drop-down menu works. Odd, then after that all of my new documents work in the Gylphs tab that didn't work previously?! Once I close Illustrator I'm back to square one again. I have exactly the same set up as 2 colleagues I work with and theirs work from the off.
