2. Cannot update links from links panel

   Cannot update links by clicking "update" icon in links panel or by going to panel menu > Update Links. They do nothing. I have to wait until AI shows the "Some links need updating..." alert and then confirm to update or I have to close/open the file.

   What the heck happened in the latest update(s)? Feels like all of the panels are super busted.

3. Link option in inactive in the Place dialog, even after a name is pasted from clipboard

   I am working on a huge document with hundreds of linked images. All files are now changed due to company policy. So I need to relink a bunch of files. This is not possible automatically so I believed I found a solution. But the shortcut was devastating. If i choose say 10 links which have the same name, lets call them Image1 but now the name should be Image01. Same image is in other words used in several places in same file. I marked the links and chose Relink. So far so good.
   I choose the new name Image01.ai and then I copy the filename and press OK until the first file is OK. Then it opens automatically a new window and i choose Ctrl-V with the image01.ai file and press enter. I enter this for all image files.
   Then I realized that the Link button is turned off???
   It´s on checked if i manually click image01.ai but not if i paste the filename.

   Please fix this bug and to be honest, a professional program as Illustrator should have batch-possibilities!

4. .TIF are distorted when placed and rotated in AI

   There is a bug in Illustrator 22.0.1 that distorts placed .tif files that are rotated. It is not just a display issue, but actually distorts the placed .tif image when I export my art to all file types. Attached is a before and after screen shot of what I am experiencing, using a bitmap .tif as a texture placed over my vector art. The two .tif files are the same, one just rotated 90°.

5. Link location mistaken for other document's link location

   When opening a specific document, links are found missing.

   When I open the document nevertheless, click on a link and check the location, the path it shows is one that was used in a previously opened, unrelated document.

   When my colleague opens the document on her computer, everything is fine.

6. Broken Link / Gaussian Blur dialogs displayed together make Illustrator UI disabled

   I’ve been experiencing this Illustrator bug for years, and it has consistently behaved the same way.

   It only happens when I already have one or more Illustrator documents open and then open another file with a broken/missing linked image. If a Gaussian Blur progress window appears in front of the missing-link warning, Illustrator becomes stuck afterward: the dialogs disappear, but the canvas can no longer be interacted with and nearly all menu commands are grayed out. I can still save using cmd+s, and switch between documents, but can’t interact with anything on the canvas. Can click the toolbar too, but it doesn’t change the cursor.

   If the Gaussian Blur progress window stays behind the missing-link warning, the problem does not occur.

   It also never happens when the affected file is the first document opened after launching Illustrator.

   I am currently able to reproduce this in Illustrator 30.7 on macOS.

7. Illustrator 30.6 freezes indefinitely while editing AI files with embedded PNG images

   Since updating to Illustrator 30.6, Illustrator randomly freezes while editing AI documents.

   The freeze is not a normal slowdown. The application becomes completely unresponsive and can remain frozen for several minutes or even indefinitely.

   I have already tested:

   Reinstalled Illustrator.
   Tested multiple NVIDIA driver versions.
   GPU Performance enabled and disabled.
   System Compatibility Report shows No conflicts.
   Illustrator correctly detects the RTX 4060 GPU.
   The AI files are not unusually large.
   Removing one placed PNG/PSD image sometimes eliminates the freeze, even though the image size is normal (around 1500–2000 px).

   CPU and GPU usage remain very low while Illustrator is frozen.

   I can provide the AI document, source images, System Info and System Compatibility Report if needed.

   Operating System: Windows 11 24H2 (Build 26200)
   Illustrator Version: 30.6

   Hardware:
   AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS
   NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU
   16 GB RAM

8. Link to a EPS file can cause saved file to be unopenable

   Apparently having a link to a specific EPS file can cause the AI file to be unopenable after being saved (cause "file partially opened" dialog, loading only the previews).

   Unfortunately, I can't join the EPS file causing the bug. The EPS file seems to be normal.

   Once I saved the EPS to AI and replace with the link to the AI image, the bug disappears.

9. Linked Images approximately above 268 megapixels render blank in illustrator (macOS)

   System Information

   Illustrator Version - 30.6

   Operating System
   macOS Tahoe - V 26.5.2

   Hardware
   Apple M1 Max

   I have identified what appears to be an undocumented rendering limitation or bug affecting very large linked raster images in Adobe Illustrator.
   Illustrator successfully creates the link and the object appears in the document, however the linked image renders completely blank. No warning or error message is displayed.
   After extensive testing, the behaviour appears to correlate only with the total pixel count of an individual linked image, rather than file format, colour mode, GPU settings or computer hardware.
   The behaviour has also been reproduced on other Macs with different hardware specifications.

   Image Details

   Original image:
   TIFF
   8-bit
   CMYK
   72ppi
   LZW compression (also tested with ZIP and Uncompressed)
   Linked (not embedded)

   The issue also occurs when saved as:
   PSD
   PSB

   Expected Result
   The linked image should display correctly.

   Actual Result
   The image link is created successfully.
   The image occupies the correct size on the artboard.
   The Links panel reports no errors.
   However, the image itself is completely blank.
   No warning or error message is displayed.

   Troubleshooting Performed

   The following changes did not resolve the issue:
   CPU Preview
   GPU Preview
   GPU Performance disabled
   TIFF → PSD
   TIFF → PSB
   RGB instead of CMYK
   CMYK instead of RGB
   LZW compression
   ZIP compression
   Uncompressed TIFF
   Multiple Macs

   Test Results

   Image Dimensions Total Pixels Result
   17,803 × 23,737 422.5 MP Blank
   14,000 × 20,350 284.9 MP Blank
   16,500 × 16,500 272.3 MP Blank
   16,384 × 16,384 268.4 MP Blank
   16,100 × 16,100 259.2 MP Displays correctly
   13,351 × 20,013 267.2 MP Displays correctly

   Resampling the image below approximately 260–267 megapixels consistently restores normal behaviour.
   Changing only the image dimensions while keeping the total pixel count similar does not affect the result.
   This suggests the limitation is based on total pixels per linked image, rather than width or height.

   Why I believe this is a bug

   If Illustrator has a maximum supported raster size, I would expect:
   an error message when placing the image,
   or a warning that the image exceeds the supported limit.

   Instead, Illustrator:
   accepts the file,
   creates a valid link,
   displays the correct object size,
   but renders the image completely blank.

   This behaviour makes it difficult to determine whether the file is corrupt or whether Illustrator has exceeded an internal rendering limit.

   Suggested Improvement

   If there is an internal maximum raster size, Illustrator should:
   document the limitation,
   warn the user when placing the file,
   or generate a reduced-resolution preview while preserving the full-resolution linked image for output.

   A blank image with no warning is misleading and difficult to diagnose.

   I've used chat CPT to diagnose this issue as I couldn't see anyone reporting the same issue.

   The team is able to see the issue at their end with latest version of Illustrator on a Windows machine and is going to investigate it.

10. Sizes of vector art is NOT accurate

    When I select a vector graphic (a logo), I go to Transform to set the size.
    I set the size to 3in x 3in
    But when I PRINT and measure the graphic, it is NOT 3in x 3in.
    I have to set the graphic to 3.1in x 3.1in in order to output an actual 3in x 3in graphic

    This has caused me a LOT of issues when I am outputting graphics that need to be a specific size.

    WHY are the transform measurements NOT accurate?

    My linked files are not working properly about 40% of the time. When I open them, they often display outdated colors, overlapping artwork, or other incorrect content. This issue has been happening consistently for almost five months, and it's becoming extremely frustrating.

    Sometimes everything works perfectly, but on days like today, every single linked file is incorrect. My only workaround is to repeatedly restart Illustrator—sometimes 20 times a day—and I've also tried restarting my computer, but the problem keeps coming back.

    This ongoing issue is having a significant impact on my workflow, and I would really appreciate any help identifying and resolving the root cause.

12. Adobe Illustrator 2026 Crashes with Uncompressed TIFF (Compression: None)

    Dear Adobe Illustrator Engineering Team,

    I am reporting what appears to be a compatibility regression or TIFF parsing issue that causes Adobe Illustrator to crash consistently when opening documents containing specific TIFF images saved with Compression = None (Uncompressed TIFF).

    Adobe Illustrator 2026 on Windows
    Standard TIFF, no compression
    Interleaved (RGBRGB) pixel order
    IBM PC (Little Endian) byte order

    Illustrator crashes immediately when opening or placing TIFF files saved without compression.

    The same files become fully functional after being re-saved using LZW compression, without any changes to image content, dimensions, color mode, bit depth, or metadata.

    This behavior strongly suggests that the issue is related to Illustrator's handling of the uncompressed TIFF encoding path, rather than the image data itself.

    Reproduction Steps
    1. Create or export a TIFF image.
    2. Save using:
    Compression: None
    Standard TIFF format
    Place the TIFF into an Illustrator document, or open an existing Illustrator file containing the TIFF.
    Illustrator immediately crashes or closes without warning.

    Control Test
    1. Open the same TIFF file in Photoshop.
    2. Re-save the file using:
    Compression: LZW
    Reopen the Illustrator document.

    Result: Illustrator opens normally and the image is rendered correctly.

    Expected Behavior
    Adobe Illustrator should maintain compatibility with TIFF files saved using Compression: None, as this is part of the TIFF specification and has historically been a standard format used in:

    Print production
    Publishing workflows
    Archival imaging
    Legacy design projects
    Prepress environments
    Actual Behavior
    Immediate application crash.
    No meaningful error message is displayed.
    The issue is fully reproducible.
    Switching only the TIFF compression method from None to LZW resolves the problem.
    Business Impact

    This issue has a significant impact on long-term project compatibility.

    My organization maintains a large archive of historical design projects that contain numerous TIFF assets saved without compression. These files were created over many years and remain part of active production workflows.

    Because Illustrator cannot reliably open these files, we are forced to:

    Locate the original TIFF assets.
    Batch-convert legacy images.
    Rebuild or repair historical project files.

    This creates unnecessary production delays and introduces risk to archived projects that should remain fully compatible with current Adobe software.

    Technical Observation

    Based on testing, the crash appears specifically linked to TIFF files using:

    Compression = None (Uncompressed)

    while TIFF files using:

    LZW
    ZIP

    appear to function normally.

    This may indicate an issue in Illustrator's TIFF decoding routine, memory allocation process, or compatibility handling for uncompressed raster data.

    Request

    Could the Illustrator engineering team please:

    Investigate support for uncompressed TIFF files.
    Verify whether this behavior is a known issue or regression.
    Restore compatibility with TIFF images saved using Compression: None.
    Provide guidance regarding any temporary workaround beyond manual conversion of legacy assets.

    I would be happy to provide sample TIFF files and crash logs if needed to assist with debugging and reproduction.

14. SAVED AS .ai files going back to older directories for linked files. BUG with links

    This has happened several times over the last 6 months. I regularly will open an .ai doc I did a few months ago (generally saved onto an SSD external drive), save as to my desktop (mac mini m4) and do updates to linked images in the file. Later the new .ai is packaged when finished and all the linked files are in the LINK folder. However, after closing and opening the file the next day, or days later, the .ai file has gone back to the original folder location and picked up the old links (linked names are generally saved the same way; 1.jpg, 2.jpg, 3.jpg). Sometimes it will pickup linked files from more than one OLD folder.

    Attached screenshot shows yesterdays SAVED AS .ai file and how it went back to last months links, ignoring the exact same files residing in the same folder as the .ai

15. Illustrator crash on relinking image

    Windows 11, all Adobe software up to date, Illustrator 30.2.1 (64-bit)

    Raster artwork in my Illustrator files is stored in a folder adjacent to my Illustrator folder. Occasionally, I must insert a file into the numbering structure, so the raster artwork becomes 'orphaned'. So, when I open the Illustrator file, I get the relink artwork dialogue box. If I hit relink, a relink box appears, followed instantly by a Gaussian blur dialogue box with a 100% blue bar, and Illustrator freezes, requiring a shutdown via Task Manager.

    If I reset my preferences (a 2-minute job using AG Astute Manager), it solves the issue for 1 or 2 files, but then it returns. The workaround is to click ignore and then relink the image manually, but it's a pain when fixing many files.

16. When relinking images, one of the images appears as their original sizing and not the size of the image being replaced, just on new update

    When relinking multiple images, one of the image appears as their original sizing and not the size of the image being replaced, This is just after receiving the new update (I do this everyday). This is not always true, sometimes it works fine. but most of the time it doesn't. I'm using Mac.

17. Rasterize creates a thin horizontal bright stripe / line

    I tried to rasterize my clipped mask short design (images & vector within), but the result raster was damaged white line on it.
    after I tried other anti-aliasing option to none, it seems done fine and without damage. So I think it's from the anti-aliasing option which caused it.
    Windows 11, Illustrator 30.1

19. Linked image file extensions are truncated after saving and reopening (.PNG becomes .PN, .PDF become .PD) in Illustrator 30

    When working with linked raster assets in Illustrator 30 on macOS, the file extension of linked images may be truncated after saving and reopening the document. For example, a file originally named image01.PNG will appear in the Links panel as image01.PN, causing Illustrator to report the link as missing. The original file remains unchanged and accessible in Finder.

    This issue did not occur in older Illustrator versions (notably 25–26). Because these versions are no longer available for download in Creative Cloud on macOS, there is currently no stable workaround other than embedding images, which is not feasible for large projects.

    Steps to Reproduce

    Create a new Illustrator document.

    Place a raster image using File → Place with the Link option enabled (e.g., image01.PNG).

    Save the document.

    Close Illustrator.

    Reopen the same .ai file.

    Check the Links panel: the linked filename appears as image01.PN and is flagged as missing.

    Issue is intermittent but reproducible.

    Expected Result

    Illustrator should preserve the exact filename of linked assets and should not modify image file extensions when saving or reopening documents.

    Actual Result

    The final character of the file extension is removed, causing broken links. Relinking restores the artwork temporarily, but the issue returns on later reopen cycles.

    Impact

    Production workflows are disrupted.

    Repeated relinking required.

    Risk of missing assets in final deliverables.

    This is a regression from previous stable behavior.

    Environment

    Adobe Illustrator 30.x (macOS)

    macOS version: Latest

    Linked files stored on: Local SSD

    Affected formats: PNG consistently, possibly others

    Additional Notes

    This appears to be a metadata handling bug involving string truncation. The consistent removal of only the last character in the extension strongly suggests a read/write error in link path management.

    A fix or confirmed stable build is urgently needed.

20. Documents preview not updated properly in Indesign

    When I save an Illustrator file, import it into Indesign, then make changes to the file, save it again and update the link in Indesign, some parts are not updated in the preview (see attached image). This doesn't happen every time, seemingly at random.

    I have resolved this by first saving as an older version and then again as latest version, but that's not a real solution.
    Somebody told me to uncheck 'Save in background' in settings, this also solved the problem but again, is not a real solution.

    I have this problem simultaneously with the (already known) problem where Indesign shows all object layers of all artboards when viewing/hiding specific object layers.

    I'm using Illustrator 30 on Sonoma.
