The artboards won’t retain the names you assign to them. They appear correct at first, but the names don’t always stick—when you reopen the document, they can revert to “copy” instead of the assigned name.

Also, in the file I’m currently working on, there are two artboards labeled “22.”

This has been an ongoing issue for years! This does not seem like it would be a difficult issue to fix, so why does it continue?

Restarting Illustrator solves the issue about half of the time, the other half I have to restart my computer.

Made a document with 1000 artboards (making stickers where each has a different number) and in multiple artboards it suddenly skips a number then makes a duplicate number and skips others, its really frustrating. I need each sticker to go 1 - 1000 but trying to make sure they are correct is made harder when the artboards arent even correct

Why every time I add an artboard, the Artboard 4 is skipped to 5? not the name but literally artboard 4 is skipped its should be 4 - Artboard
I think it was a bug, its very make me upset. When I exported a design one of them is not exported due to the same name. It should be 4-Artboard 4 not twice 5-Artboard 5, please fix it adobe!

I found a funny little bug where there is no artboard 12 in numbering, it skips it and will show 2 number 13 instead.

My example of duplication in a file with a library of pictograms: 300, 302, 302, 304, 304, 306, 306, 308, 308, 310, 310. Moreover, this happened simultaneously in two open files. After restarting the Illustrator, the numbers became correct. macOS, CC 2026 v30.0.

I would like to report a possible display bug in Adobe Illustrator.

When a document has more than 151 artboards, artboard number 151 is displayed as 152 in the Artboards panel.
As a result, the number “152” appears twice in the list.

However, when exporting artboards, if I specify artboard 151, the correct original artboard 151 is exported.
This suggests that the issue may be limited to the UI display, and the internal numbering may still be correct.

Summary:
- Artboard 151 is incorrectly displayed as 152
- Two artboards are shown as “152”
- Exporting artboard 151 works correctly
- The problem may be a visual/UI display issue only

I did 39 artboards, but the counter missed the 38, counting from 37 to 39.

I created a new file with 3 artboards, but they are numbered 1, 2, and 4

also, they are created too close together so the "title" for the "04-Artboard 4" is IN the Artboard 1!

Same here, I have no page 99 and two pages 100.

The number sequence is duplicated when I have multiple artboards — for example, the number “25” appears twice. This issue also occurs in my other projects. Please look into this bug.

Even had this happen opening an old file. Like years old. It duplicated 4 & 6.

Still an Issue. Even with small numbers of artboards. I have 4 and it's 1,2,4,4.
Many have said it has to do with lots of artboards. Not my case. I see this all the time under 10 as well.

In Adobe Illustrator 2025, the Artboards panel shows a numbering inconsistency. Artboard 41 is missing from the sequence. The panel jumps from artboard 40 directly to 42, and there is no artboard corresponding to number 41 on the canvas.

Steps to Reproduce:

Open Illustrator 2025 on macOS.

Create a document with multiple artboards (more than 30).

Duplicate one artboard many times (e.g., “Artboard 8 copy”).

Open the Artboards panel and check the numbering.

Notice the numbering skips from 40 to 42.

Expected Result:
Artboard numbering should be continuous (40, 41, 42, etc.), and each number should match a visible artboard.

Actual Result:
Number 41 does not exist. The panel skips directly from 40 to 42.

Impact:

Confusion when organizing and referencing artboards.

Errors when exporting by artboard ranges (e.g., 39–42).

Complicates collaboration across teams.

I'm seeing an issue where artboards are not numbered correctly. Its skipping 5 and then sometimes additional numbers further down the list. This isn't a huge deal for using Illustrator, but when exporting as a PNG it now tries to save a "filename-6" and then it saves the next "6" artboard over the first one.

Related, this has been a consistant issue for years, when renaming artboards it frequently changes the name of the artboard to either blank or a generic "Artboard." It seems to happen most often when tabbing to each artboard to rename but sometimes it happens even when renaming them individually. Today I had one where the first three artboards were fine when I saved, but when I reopened them they had reverted to "Artboard 1"

I think the space in Illustrator is less than in Photoshop. When we design, we often have to make it as large as 50 feet / 100 feet. Which is problematic when done in Photoshop. If we do it in Illustrator, the work is faster but it has to be done in inches and cannot be done in actual size. If Illustrator has space like Photoshop, it will be good for everyone. There, we can easily make a 100-foot design. Another problem is when we prepare a PDF file in a small size, later when the file is ready, while checking it, we see that there are some image problems inside the file. Many times, we see that the color is missing. If we reduce the opacity, it comes out. The resolution of the image is very low, which is not understandable when printed. It is very sad.

I just came across this in build 29.6.1. Never had this before. I’m working in a large document.
