You may have already tried this Sandy - first make sure View > Smart Guides is on (CMD-U or CTRL-U), and disable Snap to Grid or any other snaps. By default I leave Snap to Point on. I know this is problematic for me at times with Snap to Grid overriding Smart Guides. Restarting Illustrator can also restore functionality. Since it sounds like you have tried all that, I would double check the Smart Guides settings under preferences. Perhaps the tolerance was changed. I'd hope reinstalling or resetting Illustrator's preferences would have solved this for you too, but here are my settings if it helps. Good luck.

Saving is definitely slow and if you try to quickly save an .AI file followed by a PDF you can seemingly interrupt the first save causing the first save to not happen, which is a big problem if you regularly save in multiple formats for proofing. On a recent V24 release there was an annoying popup warning about interrupting the first save, which seemed new. This popup appears to be gone, but the action it was trying to prevent can still happen if you're quickly saving one format, followed by another. The quicker you are with save shortcuts, the easier it is to experience this issue. This was never an issue pre-2018 versions of Illustrator CC. Normally the loading bar dialog box would display, and as long as the loading bar was displayed you knew to wait until the save action was complete.

As for exact save speeds, I'm not sure if everyone hear has just had noticeable slower saves, or if they don't see a new dialog box showing the save progress, in addition to the "Saving" status in the tab.

I might be highlighting a separate issue.

    Hi Everyone,

We have fixed this bug in our latest release – v 24.2.1 which is available worldwide now. Thanks for your patience on this.

Please note that after upgrading you might still see that Align To sets itself to Align to Key Object. If you see this, please manually set the Align To to the required setting, and this reported bug will not happen again. You’ll need to this one time only.

The reason Align To might get set to Key Object after update is because Ai remembers your last Align To on subsequent launches as well. So, if your last Align To was Key Object before quitting/upgrading, after first multi-selection, it will set itself to Key Object. After you manually change it one-time, it will work fine.

You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html

Definitely seems like a visual bug in Illustrator 24.2.1. When you directly click an object with the Selection Tool (Black Arrow) the edges are fine. However marquee selecting or selecting multiple objects results in these thick previews/edges, which makes alignment with smart guides even more frustrating than usual. It also gives the appearance of a double line or compound path as if the stroke has been expanded, which it has not been.

One thing that seems to be related to this issue for me is how many tabs you have grouped together. When grouping Layers/Artboards/Appearance/Graphic Styles I am unable to get the Layers/Artboards tabs to properly load without manually using the Window menu to select which one I want to view. When I remove Graphic Styles or Appearance from the group it appears to function properly again.

When the issue occurs, which has only been more recently for me, I can see the area around the name in each tab can be selected as well to avoid this non-responsiveness. It is almost like the bounding box around this text cannot be selected but the tab/button can be, as you can see it highlight when hovering over the tab.

Resource Fork in .ai files are removed in version 22.1. This is done to prevent an intermittent crash while saving Illustrator files to smb volume on macOS 10.13. Apple deprecated resource fork many years ago.

Following Apple document talks about deprecations that lead to removal of Resource From .ai files

    Hi All,

Apologies for the inconvieniecne caused to you due to this issue but we are not able to reproduce the issue at our end.
To nail down the issue further we would like the following information from your end :
    1) Setting in the font search dialog – (“Search Entire Font Name” or “Search first name only”)
It would be really helpful if you could provide a short video having steps to reproduce the issue.

Share with us at ShareWithAI@adobe.com in a Zip file.
Please mention the title of this issue as the subject of the mail.

    Thanks and Regards

I'm not exactly sure when, but currently this issue is no longer happening. It seemed to be fine in v24 today and is still okay in v24.0.1

I've upated to 10.15 macOS Catalina and so far I have not experienced any white flickering. Has anyone else updated and still had this white flickering? I've managed to survive at least a week so far without white flickering. Performance of Illustrator is still sluggish but no flickering so far.

Just as a side-note your 32-bit apps will no longer be supported when you do upgrade, which may be another Mac issue for some.

White flickering frequency has increased over the last month. I do not use any standard Office applications. I do have Windows Remote Desktop installed, but use Thunderbird for emails and LibreOffice as an alternative to Microsoft Office. I'm not so convinced the two are related as I don't have Outlook, Excel or Word installed. Performance in general has not improved with each version of Illustrator and 2019 is noticeably worse than 2018, and there are other forum posts regarding the laggy performance issues. The white flickering issue still occurs on Illustrator 2018 as I have previously reported in other support tickets.

I'd also like to know if any other posters who have installed Catalina are experiencing white flickering.

    My Setup:
    iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015)
    4 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory 16 GB
    AMD Radeon R9 M395 2GB

    Resolution: 5120 x 2880
    Mac OS 10.14.6

We have done further updates to Dimension tool with recently released version - 28.3

You can create and use your custom scale for dimension, hide or show units on dimensions and dimensions are now sticky to the object - they transform as well when you transform the object.

    Adobe Illustrator's Multithreading Journey Begins!

    Dear Illustrator Community,

I'm thrilled to announce that we've embarked on an exciting journey to bring multithreading capabilities to Adobe Illustrator. This significant undertaking will enhance performance and responsiveness across various aspects of the application.

While this is a complex process that will take some time to fully implement, I wanted to share our progress so far.

    Our Approach

We've strategically begun by focusing on the most computationally intensive operations—those that typically take more time and block the main thread, resulting in slower response times while you work. By moving these operations to separate threads, we aim to significantly improve your overall experience with Illustrator.

It's important to note that you may see more noticeable impact in some areas than others initially. However, we want to assure you that this is just the beginning, and we will continue this journey to bring improvements across…

The most recent version finally has the Object > Distribute menu added.

Now both Align and Distribute commands can be accessed via menu and have assigned keyboards shortcuts to them.

The order of the commands though seemingly matches the one the panel has: horizontal first for Align and vertical first for Distribute. If you find this odd and want to change it — vote here: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-desktop-feature-requests/suggestions/45855823-sync-the-order-of-align-and-distribute-menu-comman

Also, Align To and Distribute Spacing commands are still missing in top menus, so please keep voting here to make them added too.
