1. Export from Libraries

   Sometimes clients ask for icons and other assets to be delivered separately. If we could export items from the library or drag directly from the library to the asset export window it would be fantastic!

3. Appearance Variables

   Imagine I have several drop shadows, with different colors, but same offset and blur values. Now I want to change the horizontal offset for all of them at once. Even if I use styles, it would require me change each style I have manually.
   With Appearance variables though, I could have use something like '%h_shadow' in effects’ values’ fields, in all of these shadows, and set it equal to an actual numerical value in one place.
   So, once I change it, every other shadow will adapt this immediately.

4. Isolation mode fading also in Outline mode

   Since Outline mode can be (sometimes for me) get displayed with GPU, with antialiasing, I think dimming the art can also be done.

   Sure, it should be an option (https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/31941823) and work with CPU too.

5. Add a way to quickly access Smart Delete Point command

   The way the deleting of a point with a curvature kept works now is pretty hidden and unannounced. I see nothing about this in Help (https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/editing-paths.html). There is no hint in the Current Tool field at the bottom of the screen, no cursor feedback, no label, no nothing.

   I do now remember exactly where I learnt about it though. Anubhav Rohatg told about it in a session with Taniya Vij (https://youtu.be/odch54arInA?t=944), saying that they have no time to polish it (and more than a year after it’s still not), and this 'principal scientist' basically intended this feature to be an aster egg. Indeed, the knowledge about it is passed from mouth to mouth basically, and some users are not aware of it and have no chance to learn it in-app (I even tried Discover).

   The tool should not be an easter egg. It should be accessible and used.

   Consider adding Alt+Shift modifier for Pen, a dedicated menu command and proper hints. I have a larger article about reasons behind this, but the request does not exactly need it :)

6. Select items in Layers in sync with objects on canvas

   We have to work with a strange legacy dichotomy when making a selection in Layers is NOT equal to making a selection on canvas and vice versa.

   No other vector application does it like this:
   XD, Affinity Designer, Corel Draw, Figma, Xara, Inkscape...

   Other apps which have layered structures don’t do this also:
   Photoshop, Blender, 3DS Max...

   InDesign and Illustrator are lonely black sheep in the flock of apps.

   We need a mode (as an option) to be able to sync both selection methods.
   Clicking an object on canvas should highlight the name of it in Layers.
   Clicking a name of an object in Layers should select this object on canvas.

   When an object is selected on canvas, Layers does not get expanded to display it, and we have to click the tiny button to see it in the document structure.

   Yeah, we can wrap it an an action and spend a precious F-keys to robotically press it after each selection, which is twice dumb, because an action which has only one operation in it is a bad action. Every command in Illustrator should be assignable to a hotkey.

   And also we have three places to click in Layers to select an object:
   1. Names, largest and most easy to click areas — clicking does nothing to select objects though
   2. Target buttons, small circles, which are in fact just indicators for the custom appearance applied — clicking them both targets and selects an object, all their children (except locked and hidden), and it’s the only way to select objects on canvas via the panel. Also it support selecting ranges with Shift held — after we begged for it for 3 years (here is the request about it: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-desktop-feature-requests/suggestions/19196674-select-more-than-one-layer-at-once).
   3. Selection markers, which are indicators too, but again can be used as buttons... but without the ability to select ranges with Shift. In fact, Shift here works as Ctrl/Cmd should, and Ctrl/Cmd does nothing. I have no hypothesis why. Markers can be displayed as small and large, meaning partial (some children are selected) and full selection (all children selected).

   Finally, I can see why the current approach can be useful. This allows us to put some objects in an existing group, to reorder, to move to another layer, to switch visibility or lock in mass — via a stupid dialog... without messing up with what is selected on canvas.

   Is it worth the hustle though? This can be done with a context menu for Layers panel (here is the request about it: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-desktop-feature-requests/suggestions/31956982-contextual-menu-with-layers-palette-same-as-phot) with 'Lock selection', 'Hide selection', 'Isolate selection' (for objects from different groups, here is the request about it: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-desktop-feature-requests/suggestions/31540384-isolate-selected-objects-without-having-to-group-t), Copy, Group/Ungroup, etc.

7. Make Isolate Selected Object work with text (point, area, on path)

   Ai does not allow to isolate a text object.
   We can workaround it by grouping it first, isolating, selecting all and ungrouping — but why execute these many useless operation instead of one?
   Please make it possible.

8. Rearrange artboards on canvas accordingly to their order in the Artboards panel

   If you use artboards to have pages, swapping wo of them could be a nightmare.
   So:
   1. Allow Ai to rearrange artboards on canvas as the order of items in Artboards panel suggests
   2. Add Swap Selected artboards maybe, when exactly two artboards are selected

9. Temporarily disable snapping while dragging objects or anchor points

   Currently when you move objects or anchor points while you have Snap to Point and/or Smart Guides turned on it is necessary to stop what you're doing and switch them off then switch them back on again when you've finished moving.

   This is very disruptive to workflow. Productivity would be significantly increased if there was a modifier key set to disable all snapping while moving an object or anchor.

   Obviously all modifier keys and combinations are currently used up for use before clicking an object or starting a process. However the control key (similar to its function in Photoshop) or a combination could surely be set to only perform this function if the object is already in motion, being dragged.

   Currently when you move objects or anchor points while you have Snap to Point and/or Smart Guides turned on it is necessary to stop what you're doing and switch them off then switch them back on again when you've finished moving.

10. Spring Loaded tools

    Over in Photoshop, it's possible to hold the single-letter shortcut for activating a tool, and to then release the key to return to your previously-used tool.

    In many ways, this is not useful in Illustrator, but in several, it's invaluable. The Zoom tool, in particular--I'd like to be able to hold Z, adjust the zoom, and release Z to be back on the selection tool (or whatever i was previously using).

    The Hand tool already works this way: Take out a tool like Selection (v), and then hold spacebar to get the Hand tool. Drag the canvas around, then release Space to return to using the selection tool.

    This "spring loaded" behavior is great in the hand tool and could be similarly useful in the following tools, where a quick "adjustment" with the mouse would naturally be made while the tool key is held.
    Zoom
    Eyedropper
    Paintbrush/Pencil
    Eraser
    Shape Builder
    Direct Selection

    Additionally, these functions would benefit, but are not single-key shortcuts by default:
    Width tool
    Rotate, Scale, Shear
    Blob Bush
    Bloat, Pucker, Warp, Twirl, Scallop, Crystalize, Wrinkle

    There may, of course, be others, but these are the main ones I can think of that do not rely on a modal settings box or panel to do their work, and which primarily involve visual adjustments by clicking and dragging with the mouse and without (usually) needing modifier keys. As such, each would benefit greatly from being "spring loaded."

    (Symbol Sprayer and its variants might also benefit, but generally require modifier keys)

11. Add grep/regex to Find and Replace feature

    We really need some kind of grep or pattern matching in the Find and Replace dialogue.

    I don't expect it to be InDesign-level functionality, but after all this time even rudimentary grep would be a blessing.

    Maybe the Bridge regex could be adapted to Illustrator somehow...

12. Please turn the eyedropper into a cursor for multiple text formatting

    Indesign allows you to drag over multiple words within a text box, or over various different places to apply a text attribute with the eyedropper tool. ie, the eyedropper when hovered over the text actually becomes like a cursor, so you can just swipe over the text to apply the attribute. Please can Illustrator have this same feature. Otherwise we have to use the cursor to locate the word, then shift+arrow right to highlight it, then click to apply. It's a bit annoying and time-wasting. The eye-dropper turning into a cursor when hovering over text is much more useful.

14. Expand toolgroup on hover instead of long-click

    Holding a mouse button to open a tool group can be not preferred way for some users that have experience in other software packages. It would benefit them and others if Illustrator will provide an option and a delay in Preferences to open these with just a mouse hovering over tools.

15. Extend path tool

    I make carpets, and I alway need min. 10 cm extra design for fitting or if the carpet shrinkts in production. For Illustrator artwork, I need to extend all paths, smoothly or naturally outside the border of the design, without changing the existing design.
    
    What I'd like is the bezier extension as shown in this clip from Vector Scribe plugin:

16. Hotkeys for next/previous appearance item

    Appearance is great but can be better.
    To select a fill below current one you have to open palette and click the item you want to change. If there would be a hotkeys for selecting next appearance item above/below (like Photoshop has for navigating Layers) this would boost keyboard freaks like me.

17. Touchpad Gestures recognition for Windows

    Same gestures as on Mac should be on windows (now that its possible to zoom in and out on a lot of applications in windows 10) - like pinch to zoom and pan

18. Option for Smart guides to ignore objects outside isolation

    Sometimes you want to isolate certain objects to not mess with everything else. Unfortunatelly, you can't isolate parts of different groups (but that is the other topic—'making isolation more like 'solo' in AE). But enve when you have isoalted something, Smart guides still want to snap to objects other then you want to work with. Sometimes it's fine, yeah, but mostly I want SG to ignore everything else but isolated stuff. Please make a tick somewhere for this.

19. Command Palette / Panel / Bar

    Sublime & Visual Code are text editors that are used to develop applications. One of the favorite functions is "Command Palette" which is activated with the Ctrl + Shift + P keys. This shows a text field at the top, from which almost any program command is invoked, as well as opening files and many other functions. One of the features is that it is not necessary to write the entire command, you can use only the first letters of two words and the results are listed. Visual Code is open source and you can surely study that functionality in your github account

20. Don't erase Note in Attributes when image is relinked

    I store meta-information about image in Note field in Attributes palette. When I relink images, AI erases Note info. Don't do this. I see relinking as changing path to an image, not replacing image entirely. I need Note to be kept. Now I have to copy note before relinking and paste it back.
