illustrator crashes when using surface pen to draw
as soon as i use Illustrator to draw using my surface pen on my surface 4 pro illustrator crashes. it did this to me in the trail of cc 2018 however i assumed it was because of the trail version. i subscribed to cc 2018 a few days ago to draw and i haven't been able to draw with my tablet. mouse seems to work but as soon as i use a brush with my surface pen it crashes and will not allow me to generate a crash report as it stays gray forcing me to restart my computer.

Please accept my sincere apology for the inconvenience and disappointment the issue has caused. We do test our products thoroughly including running it through multiple beta testers and we really regret that this issue slipped past our quality checks.
We have a fix and is available in the pre-release build. Please visit https://adobe.ly/1o2SDsg and get the latest build for version 23.0.5 (Build 2). While the build is prerelease this build is still of production quality. Please feel free to use/recommend it for your day to day activity.
We would appreciate if you can give us the feedback on the correctness of the fix by pressing the Thumbs up button on the UserVoice page.

Same here. I've been trying to get illustrator to work in touch mode with my pen and while it does not crash completely, it has highly erratic behavior including deleting previous edits and drawing in other parts of the art board. Really dissapointing.
Really needing pen support for 2-in-1 devices. I use the new XPS 2-in-1, i7, 1 tb ssd, 32 gb ram... and Illustrator is continually crashing with the premium Dell pen when using the paintbrush. It's definitely not the device. Please, please, please improve Windows pen support.
Stability is very erratic. I regularly have crashed which have lost an hour or more of work.

I have also experienced Illustrator crashing after about 3-5 minutes of use - just as of today. I am extremely hopeful that this problem will be fixed soon, like before the end of the year. I just got a brand computer, an HP spectre with great system specs, 1 TB SSD, 16 GB RAM and today, I started using illustrator and it simply will not work, it just crashes. I pay monthly for this, and to not be able to use it is frustrating.

I just downloaded prerelease version 24.0.1 and this issue is still persistent. PLEASE FIX THIS. Illustrator crashes every. single. time. I use the pen with Surface Book. So frustrating.
I have a Dell Insperion 7586 and I'm using a Wacom Intuous. Illustrator freezes up whenever I use the paintbrush tool. It's the only tool it does this with. I can use it for a few seconds and then my strokes stop showing up.
Is there a fix? I just got a 360 Z book my pen doesn't crash it but in Illustrator its hit and miss if the stroke stays or disappears, 9 times out of 10 it vanishes. This is extremely frustrating. Please help
Yep. Getting this on two Spectre x360's. Making Illustrator very frustrating to use!

I have an HP Spectre x360 with pen that came with the laptop. Illustrator crashes within seconds of trying to use the pen with the software. It makes using this expensive software incredibly difficult, and all but impossible for certain tasks. This must be addressed.
Still crashing on HP Zbook X360
It's still crashing unfortunately even occasionally with the normal brush. Please confirm that you're still working on it.
Unfortunately I spoke too soon. While the normal paintbrush tool seems to be fine, the Blob paintbrush tool is very laggy and will cause a crash eventually. Please advise.

Unfortunately, Illustrator still crashes on my Surface Pro (2017), just the same as before. I get these checkerboard artifacts whenever I'm drawing, then eventually Illustrator crashes.
So far we have no been able to get it to crash, which is good.
Now that we're running a test version, will Creative Cloud automatically update to the production version when it comes out officially?
Well thanks Raghuveer but since my post, I've unsubscribed for services since I didn't get a fix for months.

I am also having this problem. I’ve recently purchased Adobe Illustrator a day ago and whenever I do a stroke with my Hp pavilion X360 pen, it crashes 5 seconds later. The mouse is completely fine, but once I use the pen it immediately shuts down.
Please fix this, I would hate to have to get a refund.

Hi I am having the same issue although mine seems to crash when I double press with my surface pen. Using surface pro 6.
Has there been any progress with this issue at all??? Very annoying.
Having the same issue using an HP Spectre x360 and pen.
I am having the same issue. Using a brand new Dell xps 2 in 1 9365 and the Dell active stylus pen that I purchased with the laptop. I had Dell software support working on my computer for 5 hours, it’s not an issue with my system. Very frustrating!
Happening on the surface book 2 with dedicated gpu, hard to believe it's the laptop but I'm considering returning it all as there's no point in the cost of hardware and software if not functional
