Unable to retain the last active artboard on switching from another file
This is related to this issue here, though I'm unable to vote or comment on it. So I'm reposting this issue, because it's still annoying.
When I ⌘+Tilde (~), on certain documents (the setting seems to be saved to a document), it automatically Fits Artboard to Screen on the last artboard of the document. It is confusing, and annoying, and interrupts workflows where I need to move quickly between artboards. Please fix this.
I am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 23.0.6 which is available worldwide now.
Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.
You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html
Thank you for all the feedback. Keep it coming!

I am experiencing this issue as well. I need to switch between files with multiple artboards frequently and it's incredibly disorienting.
I'm using Illustrator CC 22.0.1 on a Mac Pro running Sierra 10.12.6.

Hi John! I've had this issue as well and it's incredibly frustrating. I've found switching off "zoom to selection" under Preferences -> Selection & Anchor Display seems to inexplicably fix it :/

Another update: It seems that "workaround" doesn't work permanently. After a couple times, it continues to do the bug, but relative to the new "last" artboard you created. **** I hate this bug.

Update: I've noticed that this issue only occurs when there are at least 2 or more artboards on a document, and the current artboard is NOT the last artboard.
A workaround that seems to fix this issue temporarily is duplicating the last artboard, or adding a new artboard so that there is a new "last" artboard. You can always go back and delete your new artboard later.
But I should note that deleting the final artboard doesn't resolve the issue. Instead, Illustrator just zooms to whatever the new "last" artboard is.

I have this exact same issue as well.
1. Version of AI: 22.1 on macOS 10.11.6
2. The steps you were taking: Working in one window/file with multiple artboards (window A), then switching to another open tab/file also with multiple artboards (window B), when I switch back to window A, the screen is zoomed-to-fit on a different artboard (not the one I was initially working on).
3. Your expected result: Switch to window A with exactly same view as I left it – same zoom & same artboard
4. Your actual result: Window B jumps to the last possible artboard and zooms to fit it to window. -

It’s also happening to me – looks like AI is trying to synchronize view on artboards across windows…
1. Version of AI: 22.0.1 on macOS 10.12.6
2. The steps you were taking: While I am working in window (document) A with a lot of artboards (like 18), actually on artboard number 5 or more – and switching to window B with lesser number of artboards (like 4).
3. Your expected result: Switch to window B with exactly same view as I left it – same zoom & same artboard
4. Your actual result: Window B jumps to the last possible artboard and zooms to fit it to window. -

Thanks for Reporting the issue.
We are unable to reproduce the exact issue in which it is jumping to Artboard. However we have an issue in which Zooming is happening on wrong document when we are switching using ⌘+Tilde (~) to switch between files.Internal Bug ID to track the issue is AI-4207490.
Please provide a video of the issue so that we know the issue more.Regards,

I just realize it is happening in my illustrator too. When you work with artboards for video you can notice it better because always take you to the bigger artboard.

When I ⌘+Tilde (~) to switch between files, sometimes the file I'm switching to will jump to an arbitrary artboard and ⌘+0 zoom-to-fit the artboard to the screen.
This is senseless. Please fix it so it stays zoomed in on what I was working on.
