Can't save files in Catalina
With the new OS Catalina, Illustrator no longer can save, save as or export any file. This is a critical issue. Not sure how it would be missed in testing. is it a known issue and being worked on?

TJ commented Upgraded to Catalina 10.15 today and made no difference, so this is presumably something that will need to be dealt with on Adobe's end.

commentedThis isn't a "Save" issue. This is a can't open the Mac finder window issue period. Any function in illustrator that requires this doesn't work. period. So, can't import a file, because can't open the finder window to choose it, Can't export, can save, save as etc. The PDF work around works because it is a different type of save that doesn't require the finder window. (its a script). Also, another works around I found for placing files is to drag them in, again, not utilizing the finder. So the question is, What other work around is there for "saving"? (don't say keyboard or bar- doesn't work).

commentedPlease get this and other CC Catalina issues sorted. I'm sure it's Apple's fault but sort anyway. Thanks

commentedSame here, can't save. Export options work and I can export to a PDF and retain layers but this is a serious issue.

commentedApparently this problem existed in during the beta of Catalina and was never corrected. This isn’t some small irritating bug. It could lose someone their job. Not being able to save a file? adobe, fix it!

TJ commented SAME. Issue just started in Illustrator 23.1.1 with Mac OS Catalina 10.15 on MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018, 2.9 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i9.) Rolled back to AI 21.1 and AI 23.0.6 and continued to have the same problem. As everyone else, I can't Save new documents or open Save As dialogue, but I can open and re-save existing files. Based on conversations with fellow designers who've upgraded, it doesn't seem to affect all machines, though. Guessing it's some combination of Mac OS Catalina and MacBook Pros with Touch Bar.

commented@Jennifer -- I have a MacBook Pro with Touch Bar too. Wonder if that has something to do with it... Everything you described is exactly what I've been experiencing (unfortunately).

commentedAfter installing Catalina on Mac Pro (10 core), Illustrator do not want to "open", "save", "save as", "save for web" ...very very frustraiting.
Not mentioning that overall performace is really, really bad on Mac Pro. We spent anormos amount of money hoping we can speed up the work and to finad after more than a half a year using it that we spent the money for nothing as Adobe didn't care neough to do something improving the speed of Illustrator. We address it with Apple, they blaim on Adobe...we spoke with Adobe they say it's Apple.... man....
And now after two days of installing, reinstalling, restoring Illustrator won't work and that's it!VERY , VERY dissapointed Adobe!!!

commentedI am having same issue, post upgrade to Catalina on a MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, no function that utilizes a pop up window from Mac file system works in any way. Tried restarting etc. Lost an entire project, however, did drag the project to the library as a graphic and it saved there but only as a complete graphic so it isn't completely usable. (ei. layers not maintained). There was also NO autosave even though that is set to every 2 minutes. I also could not import anything via the place function but could "drag" the file onto the screen. PLEASE FIX ASAP!!!
