Save now takes longer in updated 2020 version
When I save, even a blank document, it takes Illustrator a lot longer than the previous version to save.

This is no longer a problem for me. It stopped recently, seemingly randomly, not associated with any particular update. So, no idea why. Sorry it's still unresolved for others!

Problem is not resolved.
Still long load times and saves that seem to get hung up at 30% and sit there for several min. but do eventually save but cant use illustrator at all during this period. I have reset preferences with no change in performance. Running the most up to date versions of CC 2020 and CC 2021 same issues for both.

Adding to some notes here...
What I've also have run into is, when saving a file, it will state that it can't find the file and not allow me to save the file no matter what.
So, I have to close the program, sometimes, losing the file that I was trying to save; reopen and then I can move forward.

[EDIT] I downgraded the app to v.25.01 and it's working again. I should note: After the downgrade my file size decreased from 16 MB into 1.6 MB. [/EDIT]
I'm using AI v.25.2 on Mac OS Catalina and having the same issue since the latest update. File saving time takes forever. I succeeded once by aborting save, saving a copy instead via File menu (which surprisingly worked that time) and forcing the app to quit.
When I save even a relatively light file the save progress starts from 0%, it reaches 100% and restarts the progress. I counted 3 times. The 3rd took forever and wouldn't finish.
This bug IS fatal. It should have the highest priority in the bugs list.

I'm having the same issue as Melissa, incredibly slow Ai open and save times.
Anyone had any luck resolving this? -

Hello All:
The other day, I ran an Adobe Illustrator update and now have the latest version {24.3v} and it seems to have cleared up the particular saving issue(s) that I was having.
It is saving more like normal and without crashing right off the bat.
Thanks Guys!! -

Am I correct that the last response from Adobe was December 2019? Yet the problem seems to be carrying on and into the 2021 version?
What is going on. -

Same.... ever since 24 came is so slow to save. My computer is jacked with Power. This isn't even a big file. Whats going on???

Have been having the same issue for some time now.
Also, when I go to save a file, the first attempt crashes (does not close out AI) and reports a failed save. On subsequent saves, it works fine - just lags.
I have updated Illustrator to 24.3v and still having the same saving issues.

I think Adobe is uploading something in back end to cloud every time we save or open a file....so it takes super long......seems like till now, nothing has been done to solve this issue.....very very frustrating indeed!

Saving is definitely slow and if you try to quickly save an .AI file followed by a PDF you can seemingly interrupt the first save causing the first save to not happen, which is a big problem if you regularly save in multiple formats for proofing. On a recent V24 release there was an annoying popup warning about interrupting the first save, which seemed new. This popup appears to be gone, but the action it was trying to prevent can still happen if you're quickly saving one format, followed by another. The quicker you are with save shortcuts, the easier it is to experience this issue. This was never an issue pre-2018 versions of Illustrator CC. Normally the loading bar dialog box would display, and as long as the loading bar was displayed you knew to wait until the save action was complete.
As for exact save speeds, I'm not sure if everyone hear has just had noticeable slower saves, or if they don't see a new dialog box showing the save progress, in addition to the "Saving" status in the tab.
I might be highlighting a separate issue.

Having the same issue! Saves are taking at least 3x longer than they used to... any resolution here?

I have noticed slower save times over the past year or so than ever before. Save times are similar now to larger Photoshop files. Strange. Even smaller files that were once instantaneous now take several seconds, which seems odd. But my biggest gripe is this AiRobin thing that seems to be hogging so much RAM (15 GB on my machine, even when Illustrator is first opened and is doing nothing; Illustrator itself in this state only uses 1 GB). I have unchecked the boxes allowing for background save / export, yet AiRobin continues to run and uses the same amount of RAM as before. What in the world is AiRobin doing? Considering Illustrator has no files open, AND I have disabled background save / export? Whatever it's doing, I can't see that it's helping me in any way. So, unless it is helping in some way I'm unaware of .... can you let me know what it is doing? Or, can we please eliminate it?
As a very long-time user (and 5-day-a-week user) I will say I would MUCH prefer a more flawless version of the product over new features I rarely if ever use. Please.

Since they don't seem to be working on anything but changing things that DO NOT need changing... I found this link:
https://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cc-2019-direct-download-links.html
You can download 2019 versions (PC and MAC) of some programs. I just did and they work just fine.
And we pay monthly for this nonsense. : (
Shameful.
