Add Used Colors command in Swatches ignores colors from Repeat objects
Repeat Objects are strange objects.
If we choose Add Used Color, color from the repeat object are ignored.
Another problem is that Select All Unused in Swatches selects colors used in Repeat objects: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/51093643

Select All Unused in Swatches selects colors used in Repeat objects
Repeat Objects are strange objects.
If colors are only inside a repeat object, using Select All Unused will select the swatches even when use in the repeat object.

Repeat objects ignore Select > Inverse command
Take a look at the GIF attached and the file.
I select the magenta square and use Select > Inverse to select everything but the square.
It select the circles, the black one and the white one (inside of Radial Repeat) — all correct. Now I try Select > Inverse one more time, expecting to get the opposite result, only the magenta square selected.
But the Radial Repeat object stays selected.
It must not. These applies to other repeat types as well.

Copying (Ctrl+C) a Radial repeated object with a drop shadow causes crash
Illustrator 29.61
I was able to re-create the crash with the following steps:
Create New Document.
Create 5 basic shapes, group them.
From the application menu, go to Object->Repeat->Radial and apply it to the group.
Double click on the original group to isolate it, from the appearance panel add a fx drop shadow to the grouped object.
Exit isolation.
select the repeated group and copy it
Crash.Playing around with this, the crash only occurs when you add the drop shadow after applying the radial repeat. The easy solution is to apply the drop shadow prior to applying the repeat.

Using reflect or object - repeat causes stroke-only layers to misalign
When attempting to mirror / repeat a stroke-based object, it reflext along the extremity of the stroke, not the shape path itself. This is insanely annoying when trying to work with strokes.
The path itself is the part that should be mirrored and the stroke applied afterwards.
It wouldn't be so bad if we could use snapping on the object > repeat > mirror but even that doesn't work and you have to eye-ball it. This makes for poor precision.

Smart guides don’t highlight a repeat object when it’s grouped
- Please open the attached file.
- Make sure you have Smart Guides enabled (and Object Highlighting enabled as well in Preferences > Smart Guides) and Snap to Grid disabled.
- Hover your cursor over the yellow circle — you will see a blue edge highlighted.
- Hover again, but over the black cross — Illustrator won’t highlight it.
- Open the Layers panel and study the object tree — yo will see that the Radial Repeat is grouped.
- Select it, ungroup it, and try to hover over it again — now Illustrator will draw the edges.
Notice that Illustrator still won’t tell you the…

Repeat gizmo (number of repetitions) is invisible when zoomed out
There’s something a bit inconvenient with the repeat tools: when they are small, you need to zoom in to be able to see the repeat gizmos.
So, for 5 mins, I was trying to find a way to modify the number of repetitions without knowing I had to zoom closer. I realized that it would be handy to have them in the repeat panel instead of only relying to gizmos.1 vote -
Switching modes in Repeat Options dialog does not change the selected repeat object
Imagine you experiment and convert some art into a Repeat object.
Then you open Repeat Options and see some other variants, like Radial, Grid, and Mirror... OK, you think what do these do? You toggle to them, you set values, you click OK — and nothing you get. These do nothing. You can only change those your object currently have, but not switch the type.- Why can’t I switch the type?
- Why don’t you disable these if they don’t work?

Repeated items become invisible when I close and open Illustrator
I made a file in Illustrator with a few shapes that get repeated in a grid, but when I close and open the file again, some shapes become invisible. When I click on them enough so they get in isolation mode, they appear again, but everytime I open the file they are invisible at the start.
I tried to copy and paste these in a different document but that doesn't help.
My operating system: Windows 11 Home
Version of Adobe Illustrator: 27.1, but when I used 27.0.1 it was also there.1 vote -
Repeat object has no indication of selection when bounding box is off
Repeats is broken right from the start and you are not even planning to improve it... OK, not improve it, but just to make stable, as it was supposed to be.
Here in the GIF, I have Bounding Box turned on, and it seems it works OK.
Then I disable bounding box (which is normal for me and a lot of other users). Again — AI allows to turn if OFF, and everything works without it just FINE — except for Repeats and area type text (but this is another tale).
Now, when I select both objects, the repeat object…

Repeat-> Mirror grayed out after expanding symbols
I used the symbol sprayer to spray image symbols. Then I expanded the objects (until I couldn't expand anymore). I selected all the object and tried to mirror them but the menu item is grayed out. All the menu items under "repeat" are grayed out, except for "options...".

Repeat Grid messes up variable width strokes
When the artwork contains asymmetrical variable width strokes, those are converted to symmetrical variable width strokes when a Repeat grid is applied with mirroring.

Repeat on-screen controls work wrong when Bounding Box is off
When bounding box is off, splitter control is rendered, but does not work, and instances control is missing completely.
Having the bounding box turned off does not mean a user does not want to have repeat controls. So they should be A) completely hidden, or B) shown and be completely working.10 votes
