Surface Pro GPU Issues
Hello. Been having problems with fonts showing up with 'scratched' edges on Illustrator CC. I've cleaned up caches including font cache and have installed previous Illustrator version 15.3 and still the same issue. Please see attachment to view problem.
This issue is fixed by Intel in their latest driver update (15.46.02.4729 – released on 11 JUL 2017 ) available at – https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26941/Graphics-Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-15-46-?product=88358
This update cannot show up driver search, as it might take some time for Microsoft to get it integrated in their Surface Pro driver updates. Microsoft prevents installing driver directly from Intel if you try the installer directly, however latest driver from Intel can be installed with steps listed in section “Update video adapter device drivers” > “Intel (Surface Pro devices)” in below link

I recently purchased the new Surface Pro: 512 GB SSD 16GB Ram Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640.
In GPU mode round lines and text appear jagged. This can be resolved by switching to preview mode - but I can no longer use the animated zoom tool and the interface becomes laggy.
I have spent hours on the phone with Microsoft + Adobe, which I was informed that my graphics card is incompatible?
Will there be an updated to resolve this issue of the incompatibility with the Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640.
I find it outrageous that a computer marketed as the most powerful solution for graphic designers is not compatible.
Is there any fix?

Installing the latest Intel drivers worked for me too on my new Surface Pro 2017 i7 by following these steps:
Intel ZIP Driver:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27058/Graphics-Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-15-46-?v=t1. Extract ZIP package to a folder
2. Press the Windows + X keys together, and select Device Manager.
3. In the Device Manager console, expand the Display adapters section.
4. Right-click the Intel graphics node, and then select Update Driver Software.
5. Choose the option to browse your computer to find the required driver software.
6. Click Have Disk, and then select the directory that contains the zip file you extracted
7. In the extracted zip file, locate the Graphics folder and then select igdlh64.inf and click Open.
8. Click OK in the Install From Disk window. Then click Next, and driver installation starts.
9. If prompted, reboot your computer. -

I can confirm that after installing newer graphics driver the problem generally no longer seem to occur.

Hi Hajo Hund,
I tried with latest driver but on a different gpu card and the issue was not reproducible.
System sometimes do not show any driver update but there is a newer driver for Intel Iris Plus 640 graphics card. The link is:https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/98911?_ga=2.222692376.246297285.1503058960-1354402477.1503058960. Kindly try this driver and let us know if you are still able to reproduce the issue.
Thanks,

As I mentioned in the other topic regarding this, I'm having this issue with a Surface Pro 4. It started with the latest updates to the Intel display driver. It's reasonable to infer it's related to it.
Hopefully this will help. -

I can add some more details to this. I've started seeing this on my Surface Pro 4 as soon as I got an update to the Intel display drivers. So it's some sort of incompatibility between Intel drivers and Illustrator.

Try to turn off GPU preview. Cmd-E (Ctrl-E (Win)) or turn it off in the Preferences > GPU Performance.

Enabling GPU rendering in illustrator on my brand new Surface pro 2017 results in weird/jagged line contours, see screenshot.
I have posted this issue on the illustrator forum (https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2361553), seems to affect not only my system. Currently using version 21.1.0.The GPU is listed as compatible on the online compatibility list, as well as in the software, so I would expect it to work accordingly.
Thanks inadvance for looking into this,
kind regards,
Hajo Hund
