Pasted/Embedded Images are disappearing
- 22.0.1 on MacOS 10.13.3
- Illustrator closes either through my action or an unexpected crash
- I expect all of the embedded files I've been working with to display on the canvas
- A handful of the images will appear, but almost everything that has been linked (then embedded) or pasted into the file only appears as an empty bounding box. The images will only reappear if I use the link panel to hunt for each file and place it again. 40 minutes into this, I don't even know if I'll be able to fix all of the images that I pasted into the file.
- I've attached a pic of the empty frame along with the links panel

Using Illustrator version 28.0 (64-bit) on Windows 11 v_23H2
Illustrator crashed suddenly and all my embedded images are gone. Vectors are there. All the images turned out black. This happened 3-4 times before, that's why I am reporting this now. Please fix this issue.
Thanks.

This issue happens to me - usually working over the network - where I think everything is ok - then I may find a a file - says not all is recovered, I open and in preview mode I see only the boxes with x and if I select it I can then choose to 'embed' and all the contents come back like it was a pdf imported with broken likes of text, bounding boxes around everything as well and most difficult since we work in scaled drawings - the size of everything uniformly enlarges! OMG PLEASE HELP SOLVE!

This has happened to me three times in a row. All my figures I have created and embedded and all the pictures are gone. Some text is gone as well! I would love to know how to recover them if possible...

I have to say since Adobe went into the cloud the products have been rubbish!!! Constant issues with their programs crashing or loosing data. If we have an Adobe app open it runs sooooo slow it's a joke. Go back to allowing s to have the software on our machines. It just worked

Sorry if this is obvious but this happens to me when I have finished a document and then move/clean up desk top of delete the original images. If you open with google chrome though they are still there. I'd love to know a way of solving this, as I don't want to keep all of the original images once the artwork is done.

Same issue happening with me, plus I can't share the AID files as Windows won't let me add to zip, copy/paste or attach directly (see attached pic).
Just has a support rep spend an hour troubleshooting through all the steps I'd already described as having done. This issue has caused so much wasted time for what looks like quite a few people.

HOT TIP - UPDATE!
I have an Adobe Illustrator file where my embedded layers have disappeared. I decided to abandon Illustrator and use Affinity Designer - It opened my Illustrator file and ALL the layers were there, including the missing embedded files.
So, to reitterate, if you have an Illustrator file where your embedded layers are missing and you have no oither way of reinstating them, simlpy open the document using Affinity Designer. -

24th May 2021. Embedded images are missing inside my Illustrator files. I placed the images into a layer and hit the EMBED option. I've come back a week later to use the illustrator file and the embedded images are missing.

same problem still keeps happening. MacOS 11.3. Pasted images are gone after an unexpected crash. Left only a blank frame of each image, or can say the images turn into completely transparent.

I have Adobe Illustrator version 25.0.1
I am having the same problem, after crash, recovery file opened but all linked images are missing and embedded.
Embedded images came without names so I have to wast more than an hour to get them one by one.
it is a big problem, recovery file is useless, I better save manually every 5 minutes than going thru this headache.

Was this resolved? I am having the same issue. Every time lI try to embed an image, it disappears.

I was able to recover the images by creating a new layer and then dragging the "invisible" images to the new layer by selecting them in the layout, and moving them up using the layers palette. Worked for me.
